A couple of years ago, a friend of mine gave me one of my favorite gifts ever. It wasn’t expensive. It wasn’t complicated.
But it was special.
It was just what I needed. A daily reminder of God’s love typed out on strips of paper, folded, and placed in a box.
The Scriptures were personalized. Like little love notes sent from God’s heart to mine.
I have since given this gift to many friends. Friends that needed a reminder. A fresh perspective. A simple note of truth in the middle of their day. Tucked in a little box.
This is such a sweet gift for that person in your life going through a hard time.
Or someone who could use an extra dose of daily encouragement.
Or that friend you want to make feel extra special.
And you know what else I really love about this? It helps this craft challenged, non-baking girl actually make a gift for someone that doesn’t scare them. Or cause them to wonder if my kindergartner made it.

this scripture box idea is just delightful
These are sweet. A dear friend did something like this just strips of verses on bright yellow paper so I wouldn’t loose them after my son passed away a couple of years ago. So, this is very nice to have a special box with verses inside. It would be encouraging to have as life is never easy in this big family of mine. I am enjoying your blog it is so encouraging .

Honey. That is the grandmother name my Mom picked for herself. I would love for her to have this wonderful gift. She has been such an inspiration to me my entire life and she is my best friend. My grandson, Tobey. He has problems with fear so I have been gathering verses for him about not fearing and was going to make a calendar with a verse for each day of the year, but I cannot find a calendar that allows me to write a verse and is useful for a 10 year old boy. One son is in rehab, one is still using and she just found out that her youngest has now tried drugs. Well, hello!
(I’m a subscriber). I opened my mouth two weeks ago, 20 minutes before church, and don’t you know it, God spoke. Thirty minutes later, I was standing up announcing that I would be hosting a women’s retreat March 8, AT MY HOUSE, for a whole weekend! Oh, God, the things you do for me! And my house is little, not grand. And not cleaned because now I’ve been sick for the last five days with nothing to do but lay on the sofa researching “How to host a women’s retreat in five easy steps”. Oy. Can you say “inflatable mattresses everywhere”?

A few years ago, I wanted to bless one of my girl’s teachers that I absolutely loved. She is still one of the best teachers we have ever had. I thought about writing down different short prayers and putting them in a box, but then I saw this idea of personalized verses at Renee’s, where she had done them for her hubby. I loved it! I mean, what God has to say is way better than anything I could say! So I have been doing these for years, as well. And they have probably been the best received gift I have ever given. You have some verses I don’t keep on my file. Gonna have to grab them and add to the blessing! 🙂 How thankful I am for His Word. How I love the way He loves us through it.

My daughter’s best friend Allyre (age 26) is pregnant with her 3rd child (unexpected) and this past Sunday, her oldest daughter Ami found her grandfather (Ally’s dad) unconscious. Ally tried to revive him by doing CPR, but it was not effective. She really needs prayer and encouragement right now. We are reaching out to her but she isn’t responding. She struggles with anxiety and depression and I just know she will be blaming herself. She could really use a gentle reminder that God is in control and he loves her very much. Thank you Lysa.

A little over 6 months ago my husband took a new job in SC. Our family moved here in August. Two days after being here our 3rd daughter was born. Three days later my husband passed away. I LOVE making these for people! I use 100 verses, so it takes a little time but I enjoy every minute. LOVE it when I find the perfect container. Embarrassingly enough, the set I made myself in despiration lives in a generic brand ziploc bag. I would so treasure a beautiful box.

What a great idea. I wonder if you would have “simpler” verses for young teenage girls? I have a couple girls in my youth group that could use encouragement/uplifting like this. This would be the perfect for Destini, a beautiful young teen who was so broken before she came to church with my pastor’s wife who had led her to Christ prior to her coming. Thank you! This blog was a gift for me this morning. I woke up for my quiet time with God filled with self doubt. He assured me He has my right hand. Even though I feel myself slipping, He has hold of me. Doubts fill my mind, but He gives me comfort and renewed hope. Then I checked my e-mail to find your e-mail filled with verses that remind me of my value. God loves me. He will lead my way. My job is to be obedient to Him. I would love to have a treasure box filled with God’s Words reassuring me that I am His and I can face whatever battle lies before me as long as I face it with Him. I will also be making these treasure boxes to share with others. I will start by making one for each of my daughters for Easter. Good Morning Lisa, I just love you and all you do to make “us” girls feel so good about ourselves…I get your devotions and have read your books and done your Bible Studies, I would love to receive your “Scripture Box” with your scriptures for my friend who just found out 3 weeks ago that she has inflamatory breast cancer, and I have been sending her encouraging notes through mail, email and text everyday to keep her “up”. I know this would make her day so much brighter.

What a great gift idea- especially for our children! Perfect for when they reach that age of spreading their wings and leaving the nest. I am a single mom who prays daily for her 3 boys. 2 of them are already our in the world, one working and the other in medical school. My last one just turned 16. I can not think of a better gift from a praying mom than pulling out a scripture picked “especially for me” when they am feeling a bit overwhelmed with life! It’s like having mom’s prayers in a box! This is a wonderful idea! What a way to warm someone’s heart and share those words that have gotten me through so many times. I’ve learned how limitless his love is and have hoped to share that with others, but often there just aren’t the words to adequately describe….this is a way to show a friend or someone in need!
What a wonderful way to brighten someone’s day. We lost my wonderful husband and father to my two girls on January 30th. My daughter, Mary, is really struggling to see God’s plan in all this. Thank you for all you do to bring us closer to Christ!

Great and awesome idea, I would use this for my sisters, my mom and sister passed away within two months of each other, and things with all of us have not been the same since, this would be a great gift to share with them.
One of the most precious gifts I have ever received as a little girl was a wooden box with little rolled up scriptures and a little wooden pick that you could use to pick out the one you wanted to read. I have never seen one since, but still have this box and still treasure it and that was many, many years ago. 🙂 This is a great idea!

I experienced God working in me yesterday as I read your most recent blogs. At that time I didn’t know what He was up to but this morning I realized that He was working an incredible God moment. Recently, I’ve reached out to a co-worker and have been sharing my experiences in my growing relationship with the Lord. We connected on this and had a few moments of truth during our busy day. Yesterday, I shared several of your blog’s with her to find out later that morning that she no longer worked at our company. This morning I received my first Persued devotional and forwarded it to her with a message of promises that He has in store for her and explained to her this God moment that I felt in my heart. I’m asking for prayers today for Alicia and that she reaches out to me for comfort and that I will be able to share the word of the Lord with her.
I would love to send one to my friend, Terri. She has experienced so much loss in the last two years, this would be a great reminder of how much she is loved by Him and me!

Lysa…..I am just thrilled to hear that there is actually another Christian woman out there that is clueless when it comes to being crafty and inept in the kitchen….I truly thought I was the only one that didn’t stay at home and make cookies while their kids were in school and did the PTA and all that stuff that stay at home moms have the joy of doing. Yeah, I’m one of the mom and dads of the Christian world who tried to make it all happen and in that process didn’t have time for the cutesy things of life.. I love your scripture box idea and I have a few people in my life that I can think of that could use that uplifting daily (and I can’t be there daily for them). I hope I can win this so I have an example to go by in creating others for my lost, sick or in the dark friends. Love your posts….and keep sending me crafty things that need no actual talent!!!!!!
I would love to have a box for my daughter, Lauren. Recently I had a “pink shirt” experience at a Women’s Retreat at a church I had just joined. When it came time to put sticky note words of encouragement or appreciation on others, I handed out a few, realized I would probably not receive any myself as a newcomer, and fled to the bathroom where I asked Jesus to help me not feel insecure. It worked.
I’m thinking about one of my four daughters who needs to be reminded of HIS perfect love!

I would love to give this to my special prayer partner Dena who has faithfully prayed with me for 5 years. We have prayed for our kids, husbands, friends, church …. You name it we have covered the situation in prayer. As a result, we have witnessed God’s power in amazing ways. Her entire life has recentl been turned upside down… and on top of all the changes, her husband was transferred… so our prayer sessions have also changed from in person to over the phone. I would love to add this special box of prayers to her new life she is in the midst of sorting out.

What a blessing this is during difficult times and a refreshing reminder everyday of the love of Christ. We walked through a difficult time with our daughter and her eating disorder several years ago and something similar was given to us. Now as we are constantly placed in the lives of others walking the same difficult road, God continues to use His word to restore truth and trust in who He is. I wish I would have seen this before Valentine’s Day. I would love to share a box with my husband Dean. He has been searching for a way to bring scripture into his office – what a wonderful personal reminder.
I have a friend whose daughter died just yesterday from Batten’s disease. Casey was a special girl that everyone loved, a true inspiration to all those around her. She especially loved to worship to music and would do her own “Casey dance,” which would bring most to tears since she was very limited with her movement from the disease. My heart is breaking for this dear family who loved her so much, but is rejoicing because now she is dancing in worship in heaven.
Awesome idea…I could use one, my mother just passed, my husband is in the hospital, my car isn’t working……I am not daunted because I know God is with me, but that little box of love would be great!

so many times I’ll come across a verse while reading or listening to a preacher and think to myself “I need to keep that verse and read it next time I am discouraged, doubting, discouraged, etc” but I scrawl it on a scrap of paper and then never get them all to one place- THIS BOX is the perfect idea!! Thank you for a great idea. Since i have been struggling a lot this last year I would make one for myself to use. But i would also give them to two women i meet with every week as part of a church group.
I would love to have this. I just recently had my 2nd child and went back to work. To say it’s been tough the last few months is an understatement. I feel like I need daily encouragement and this would be great reminders to be thankful for what I have!

I can so relate to your blog about identity in Christ. God just showed me this past Sunday at church that my identity is not in my mother who abused me growing up. I am a child of God and He is my heritage, and I don’t have to feel like I’m going to be like my mom. I am truly my Father’s child. Meant a lot for Him to show me that.

This will be such a wonderful gift for so many people, but the one who immediately came to my mind as I was reading about it is my 15-year-old SON, Blake. He is a loving, tender boy desperately trying to become a man (he will be 16 in April). He wants the approval of the young ladies, but his desire is to remain pure for his marriage. He often thinks negatively of himself, and no amount of encouragement from us, his parents, seems to convince him how wrong his thoughts are. I think filling him with God’s Word about who he truly is in Christ is the perfect answer!! Thank you so much!!

I would love this for my friend Lynn who is going thru stage 4 cancer. It started in her breasts 4 yrs ago and has set into her bones. It has been quite the journey for her. My heart aches for her as depression has set in the past few months. Thank you for your posts and showing these words, I am trying to find the link to print them off, but somehow cannot see it.

Scripture boxed, what a great idea. You can even write individual slips telling what you noticed as their particular gifts. That makes them feel special and that you notice their gifts and are thankful for them touching your life.
All of us are looking for meaningful gifts to give dear friends….everyone needs encouragement, so this is the PERFECT gift.
The first person that comes to my mind for this sweet gift is my daughter, Courtney. The Holy Spirit has been working in her heart for the past 6 months. She is 17 and after a few years of venturing off the path God had in store for her she has come full circle. I watch her at church (Elevation) on Sunday mornings during worship. I can see she truly worships with her heart, eyes closed and hands raised. To grow in faith you need to be in the word daily, what better way than to have scripture in a box to read before she heads out to school to face the pressures of the day.

This would be wonderful for me – I was diagnosed with breast cancer, had surgery and am waiting for test results to come back to determine if I will need chemo along with radiation therapy. Radiation is a definite. So I know my current trial is not over yet. God’s word would definitely help me get through the difficult days ahead.

For Christmas, my college-aged daughter decoratively painted for me one of the wooden treasure chests from Hobby Lobby with the words “It is well with my soul” and filled it with all sorts of scripture verses to build me up and encourage me. Last fall was a very difficult time, and I wept when I received her precious gift – probably the most special, thoughtful, personal gift I have ever received! It blesses me daily!
Hi Lysa! You truly inspire me. My coworkers and I have been doing the unglued study and just love it. When I read this, this morning, I thought of my uncle Tim, who is in the hospital with stage 4 cancer. It is a very rare form of cancer and is very aggressive. He has been fighting it with every bit that he can. I know this would uplift his spirits. Thank you!
I absolutely love this idea, I may just make one for myself. I have been going through a “dry spell” here lately. I know God loves me, but I fail Him so many times. I plan to read my bible, pray, just spend time with Him, but I let life take over that time and I just feel so unworthy. I feel so far away from God. I read your devotionals in the mornings and I try to take my lunch to read the Bible but I don’t always choose to do that. I just think having these little reminders make a great tool to remind and remember what God says and to keep us close to Him and His promises when we don’t have or make the time to read the Bible…. And on a personal note, please say a prayer for me and also my husband… We know that God has a calling in our lives, we think his may be ministry, and mine???? I love to uplift people and I love to sing so we will see where that leads.. We are being hit with so many road blocks right now… It just seems like we are never going to get to where God has planned and willed for us to be, I want to be His worker in the fields, I want my life to reflect Him and Him only. This is fantastic! Thanks for sharing these verses. I can use these verses in several ways! I have recently moved out of state and miss my friends immensely! I plan to send these verses to each one of them.
When our girls went to church camp, I would hide little notes throughout their suitcase, stuffed in pockets of their clothes, wrapped around their hair brush, in their Bible and notebook, etc. Some of the notes were Bible verses, but not enough! I will also use these verses you shared with us when the girls go away to camp and even in their lunch boxes! In fact, Lisa our oldest daughter, is going to Mexico on a Missions Trip next month! I’ll use your scripture notes in her suitcase!

Turning 56 tomorrow. Raised a daughter on my own; she’s now married. I’m single. Feeling alone as I enter another year hoping for that special someone. Your daily devotion inspired me to remember that I am loved by Christ, and even though I know that; seeing it in a scripture, brought tears to my eyes. Maybe I’m like most woman when a birthday is approaching. I thought I’d be settled down by now. I thought I’d be married by 40. Where does the time go? I know marriage has its ups and downs. I’ve been there. However, being single has its ups and downs too. It must be the birthday thing coming up. Thank you for your daily devotion. It was what I needed. God bless.

A friend did this for me for Christmas. I have loved it. I did something similar for my two girls on Valentine’s Day. I filled two small baskets with pretty paper hearts that were written on. They took out each slip of paper and carefully read each word. It was precious.

Hi Lysa, this is such a wonderful tool to help us who are going through a difficult circumstances endure and perservere in it. I have a wonderful friend named Sara, who is having a difficult time adapting with the sudden change in their home. Her husband’s grandmother went to be with the Lord and before she passed on, she gave Sara and her Husband custody of her grandchildren (who are 10 and 12). Many problems have arised and she is really struggling to stand strong.
I’ve been going through such a rough situation for the past few months. The encouragement of God’s word is what I truly am holding onto. I would love this
gift as a reminder of how loving our God is.

Lysa! I love this! My mind filled up with the women I know who could use this. I send out the devotions I get every day from P31 to a number of women I mentor or who are going through things. Sometimes I just share the devotions with my friends because they speak into my heart. It’s a way of staying connected to the people I love, sharing a little piece of me and my struggles and victories with them in a world so busy that sometimes we don’t get together often enough. This is absolutely precious. And, since I am a non-crafting, non-baking woman with no small children — this fits for me perfectly. I am a writer and often send written prayers or words of encouragement to people I know and love, but it’s never wrapped up in anything pretty! (I am a print journalist by education and past experience and newspaper is never pretty. Blessings!

I so relate to your crafty issues! I am dangerous with a glue gun! But this box is simple, yet beautiful, mostly because it holds the Word. I know so many wonderful people in my life who would be inspired and touched by such a gift, but the person that comes to mind most is a little 9 year old girl named Samantha who is awaiting a heart transplant at Duke. Please be in prayer for her and her family!
I have a friend who suffers from anxiety and gets very negative. I would love to present her with these. She says she knows God, but she did not seem willing to turn it all over to Him.

Though I’ve asked the Lord if He has a “big dream” for me to pursue, He’s clearly conveyed that I am to live every moment, looking for ways/opportunities to serve Him. (I’m good with that.)

I am a wife (28 years this Saturday!), mother of 5 (all boys!), co-owner of a business, sister, daughter, friend, ministry worker, runner, etc, etc, etc, so, if it weren’t for imperfect progress, I’d make no progress at all!

I would like to have one for Johnie. He’s my cousin and my neighbor. For the last 13 years, he has taken care of his mother. He quit his job, long before retirement age, to take care of her. He never asked for respite. He never took a day off. He didn’t even have a car, so the most he got out was a walk here and there. His mother died last Friday. I just don’t know how he’s going to fill his days, and I’m sure he could use some encouragement.
I am praying for God to fill Johnie’s days and bring peace and comfort to his heart.
Hi Lysa! What a wonderful idea to wake up to this morning especially after receiving the news last evening that my friend’s (Kelly) husband lost his six year battle with brain cancer. I have been circling her and their three young children in prayer this morning as they prepare for his burial. Mid-30’s is too young to go. She is going to need encouragement and comfort over the next several weeks, months that can only come from Him. I love this idea for her.

I absolutely love this. I am constantly looking for ways to be an encourager to my friends. We all need a little encouragement and this is so simple but has so much LIFE in it.
Friends are “Jesus with arms for hugs”, smiles to remind us that we are loved, and “love notes from our Father-in the flesh”. I am blessed to have friends that are these things for me! We should strive daily to shower our friends and friends-yet-to-be with the reminders of God’s love for each of us, not only for salvation or obligation, but because we are grateful and filled with His love. This is an AMAZING idea! I’m going to make one for EVERY woman I know! There is so much chaos and grief in this world. So many women struggling every day, but our Lord knew I needed this encouragement today too. Battling the loss of my Dad last September and the revelation of my husband’s affair less than a month later, getting out of bed everyday is a struggle much less having the energy and spirit to encourage others. Yet, nearly every day another woman tells me that she has been inspired by my strength and courage. I simply remind her that it’s not my strength that gets me through, it’s my Lord’s.

I am going thru a “valley” in my life that I feel will never end. Up until this point – I have always been a strong believer and worked to encourage, uplift and bring others closer to GOD, but I’ve run out of steam.
The past 2 years have seen being laid off my job and being unemployed for almost a year,. I lost my apartment and had to move from IL back to GA (not where I wanted to be – but close to family. My father passed away on Christmas Eve, my favorite great-uncle passed away less than a year later and one of my younger sisters has been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. as I watch her health deteriorate – I am struggling and if not for GOD and my knowledge that HE is still present- I wouldn’t be here now. I need a Scripture Box! Very badly.

Thank you Lysa! I want to make one of these for my sister, Christy! She has as 18-year-old autistic son who doesn’t speak and is on the severe end of the spectrum. At one point he was kicking and punching holes in their drywall. Her husband couldn’t keep up with the patching, so Christy started writing out Bible verses and taping them over the holes! She is an amazing Christian woman, and she inspires me every day!
I needed this today. Even though we have since reconciled, I have carried a DEEP hurt in my hurt from unkind word of a precious friend. I am grateful for our reconciliation.! But I still hear the words that she said to me that day. I would love to have the box and scriptures to give to her as apart of my willingness to forgive and thentryto forget. I will be moving to a Newtown soon and want to give her something meaningful that she can enjoy on a daily basis. Thank you for the devotional today….brought back many memories!

Lysa, I was so moved by your devotional this morning. I could not help but think about my youngest daughter as I was reading. She struggles with acceptance and because of choices she has made right now she is far away from the Lord and feels very unworthy of his love. I’m going to make her a scripture box full of verses of His love for her. I am blessed by the ministry of Proverbs 31 every time I open my inbox and read the devotionals prepared by you or one of the other dear sisters in Christ. God bless you.

This is a wonderful idea! I have been struggling for awhile, and my daughter’s godmother is battling cancer (God bless her, she is an amazing example of selflessness, courage, strength and faith as are her husband and 4 children). I am not “craftsy” or creative and I thank you for such a beautiful way to share words of God’s unfailing love. It would be exciting to win this, to have a hands-on model that, hopefully I could duplicate and share with others. Once I have some energy & focus back, the possible recipients are nearly endless! (Would even be a great project for our youth, especially our middle school girls who are studying the book, “Wonderfully Made; Becoming Who You Are in Christ”. Oh, thank you! What a great idea!! It encouraged me just reading through the verses and I can’t wait to download them and share as a gift to my friends. My budget is very tight so this is a great way to show them I love them and am praying for them.
This is a great idea. My daughter has a youth class that she is meeting with. This is a great idea for the girls to give out to some of our older ladies that may have lost their husband, or just need to know God and others love them. This could lift their spirits when they read them and know that our girls cared enough to share these scriptures with them because of God’s love. Thanks for sharing.

I made something very similar to this for some friends for Christmas who are also on the Christian Ed committee with me at church. I never did make one for myself though. Guess that goes to being a mom and taking care of others before myself. This is a good reminder that I need to do something special for me too. I’d be awesome to get this, but if I don’t I need to get on the ball and make some for me. 🙂

What a wonderful idea – personalized encouragement! I have a friend who could use a daily reminder of God’s love and purpose for her as she has just moved out of state away from her family, friends, church, job, etc. Now she is faced with new house, new church, new school for her two children, new job (hopefully) and taking care of her husband who is undergoing radiation and chemo for the next month or so.

Hi Lysa. This is such a great idea. I did something like this for my husband before the birth of our first baby. I wrote small “thank you”s on little strips of paper to remind him of how much I appreciate him, so that he could read these after our baby was born. Everyone knows that mommy’s get so busy that sometimes daddy’s feel left out after a new baby. I love this idea you have! I would love to win!!! This would be perfect for my friend Cindy (whose birthday is riiiiiight around the corner!). She is my soul-sister, she’s the one person I can go deep into the Bible with, and she’s always up for a thrift store adventure! I love her sweet self and would love to gift her with this.

I would love to have one, not for myself, but for my Father in law a dear sweet man of God that has been very sick and in the hospital. Today they are talking about putting him in a home until he can get stronger to come home. He keeps saying, ” I don’t know why I’m going through all of this, or why God is putting me through this.” He is almost 80 and he has always been a strong man that loves God with all his heart and soul. To see him like this breaks our hearts. So if I were to win, it would go right to my father inlaw’s room.

I have a 16 year old very angry son right now that lives with his father. Our divorce was exceptionally hard on him, more than I realized apparently. He is doing very self destructive things right now, such as drinking alcohol and I’ve heard using drugs…breaks this mommas heart. I would love to have this scripture box to give to him, but if I don’t get this one I will try to make my own for him. Even if he doesn’t use it I will know its there for the time he needs it.

Love this idea. I made one for my son at college, obviously not a “pretty” box, but one with Scripture to help him with college temptations and feelings of being overwhelmed. I could use one too!! Also, I am loving your book Unglued!! It is me all over, but God has used you and your book to begin a change in my attitude! I agree we all have at least one person who could use this box of scripture. I have a friend that is going through a divorce and she of course is struggling with why , how and what do I do know. I would still love to know where to get these boxes and if they come in a bigger size.

I have a friend who lost her 18 month old daughter in an accident caused by a distracted driver. Not only is she grieving the loss of her baby girl, but she is also campaigning to bring awareness to distracted driving to keep others from having to experience what she and her family has. She has sworn to use this horrible tragedy to bring some good to the world, but she struggles, because the loss is hard to bear, and it’s a lot of work changing people’s habits. This post has given me a great idea for a gift for her to give her some hope and power to go on when she is having a rough day. Thanks!

I’m going through a rough time right now. stress from financial problems. being alone, just feeling hopeless that nothing seems to be getting better only worse. in the last 8 months I was admitted on the psychiatric floor of a hospital with depression, stress, and the first time with sucidial thoughts.this box would help me a lot.

My sisters and I grew up in a home where love was doubted (not just from our father). My oldest stopped going to church in her teens and has never married, my younger sister and I both married and had children and made sure “I love you” was spoken a lot. My daughter (who recently got married herself) has been one of God’s most obvious tools in my oldest sister’s life, but answers to our prayers have been from many angles (but all from God). January of this year was the first time my sister entered the church doors for worship service – and she has been faithful to return! Her name is Cindy, please pray for her as she feels God’s love.

I have a friend who is going through a very difficult time. She is a mother of two teenagers and is currently dealing with her husband leaving them for the third time with this last time having cheated on her. What makes her situation unique is that she is a Pastor’s wife. He left her and the church. She said to me the other day that she didn’t just lose a husband and father to her children, she lost her Pastor as well. Heartbreaking….I know she could really use this. Thankyou for all you do. I will add these verses to my collection! I used to give verses away to hurting folks in little sacks I stamped with hearts. I called the sacks ‘Heart Warmers.’ Very personal, especially when you ask the Holy Spirit to minister through every word and every verse. Each bag was different and very personalized.

I get teary eyed just thinking of this idea. A week ago, my Mema was diagnosed with stage 4 lunch cancer and given an est. 6 months to a year to live. The news was so sudden and crushed the heart of my entire family, espeically my mother (my mema is her mom.) I am only 20 years old and I have a lot of faith in the Lord and I know that he is a healer and a protector. My Mema is a strong believer and most importantly a Christian. She is prepared and excited to meet her Father although in the mean time we all know she is scared, as we all are. Thinking of her having a simple, encouraging word once a day gives me peace to know that at least for a minute her mind would be at peace. Thank you for Ministry and your passion to share the word. this will be a wonderful gift for my sister in law who is going thru another set back with her health, she had open heart surgery 4 years ago and 2 years ago she went thru breast cancer. She is not feeling well and we are waiting for the results to see if the cancer came back or her heart is the problem. in the middle of all of this her Mom (my Mother in Law) is going thru breast cancer, she is done with chemotherapy and just started on radiations this week, please keep them in your prayers.
We do know and belive God is in controll!
I know of several that this would be a great way to encourage.

I would love to give this to my cousin. She used to come to church fairly regularly with me and at one point talked about wanting to get baptized. At this point, she isn’t even coming to church anymore. I’ve been trying to make Jesus as personal as I can to her and I think this would be great for that.

What an amazing and inspiring idea! For you are My handiwork, {insert name here}, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which I prepared in advance for you to do. Ephesians 2:10 truly speaks to my heart. I am at a crossroads in my life. I know that God wants to use me to minister to women who are broken and need someone to show them grace, encouragement and the love of God, yet I myself do not feel I am altogether worthy. Pulling Ephesians 2:10 out of a box on a day that I am struggling would be a whisper from God in one hear to shut the devil out of the other. My friend’s name is Lucille. She lost her youngest son at the age of 16 months last February and I would love to give her one with God’s precious promises in them for her. She is also became a new christian a few months before her precious son’s passing and she has held onto her faith through this terrible storm and is truly my hero. Please keep her in your prayers. For almost a year my home has been under a serious attack of the enemy. Until a point that my husband is in Puerto Rico and I am at home only. Even as far away we don’t seem to understand each other because the enemy was there and we didn’t let God be God and do his work. We have been having revival at church and really I was empty handed but was begging seriously for something, some answer anything from God, and it did. Yesterday we at church had an encounter with hum on a one and one basis. He showed me he is who he says he says he is. I just need that daily encourgement to not forget and to read out Loud to the enemy who really is in control. So I would love this box and all prayers of encourgement for me and family. God bless
Lysa, I love this idea! I would love to give this to my daughter, Ashley, who just had our first grandchild on January 24. We lost our only son, Jordan, in a hiking accident on June 9, 2012. He never got to know he was going to be an uncle, which he was so looking forward to becoming one day. God gave us Danielle Marie…a true gift from the Lord! She is named after Jordan…his middle name is Daniel…and after Ashley…her middle name is Marie. Danielle cannot replace Jordan by any means, but I am so thankful that God gave her to us! She is teaching us how to have JOY again…even in the midst of unspeakable GRIEF! Thank you so much for your ministry! It blesses my heart with encouragement!

Wow! It would be so great to get these. I am going through just about the lowest time of my life right now. My husband and I just separated and waiting on the divorce to be finalized. In the meantime, we are going through custody issues with our daughter – he moved 3 hours away and wants sole custody, I’m willing to have shared custody. It just breaks my heart to see his bitterness and hurt pouring over into this situation…mostly for our daughter. I would love to see us be able to come together as a unit, although separated physically, and parent this child together in love. What a great idea to have gentle reminders of God’s love for you, personalized from God to you!

Having gone through a separation and divorce is difficult, I know and feel your pain. Just know that having God in your life will carry you through these difficult times and read Jeremiah 29:11. This is a verse that carried me. My heart and prayers go out to you and know that everything will work out fine.

This is a WONDERFUL idea! I just love it and will definitely be using it. I would love to send this to my friend, Pam. She has been battling pneumonia, and she just refuses to stop doing for everyone else, even though she needs her rest. She and I deliver meals on wheels on Thursdays, and she didn’t even tell me until after we started our deliveries that she feels that she might be having a relapse. I love this idea! I lost my dad unexpectedly last month on this date. It was such a tragedy in my life and my childrens. A week later ended up in ICU with a blood clot in my arm. Many other things have happened in our lives during this month, car broke down and toilet broke…. My husband travels alot and we are having to pick up the pieces with my mom. Talk about character and faith building moments. Some ladies brought over a joy box to me. We opened a little gift with a scripture verse every day for 7 days. It was something special to share with my 6 year old daughter.

Lysa, I have just recently subscribed to you blog and I believe it has been such a gift of the Holy Spirit that led me here. As a high school teacher in a public school system, I am often the one who guides my students through academic studies, but many times through personal struggles as well. The tables have turned recently, though. I am now the student to a group of teens who are committed to Christ in a way I’ve never seen! At lunch they visit with me and share scriptures they’ve studied in youth group, or heard from their pastor and I am able to share with them. It’s not particularly “accepted” by our schools district for me lead them in prayer or for me to press my beliefs on them…I have been so blessed to have these students in my life and what a great graduation gift to share with them, with this scripture box. I am thinking that if I am chosen to win one, I could actually create more for the other three of them…and hopefully inspire them to give these as gifts as well! Like laying a foundation for the next generation as Christ so often spoke of.

She has been through more than any one woman should have to go through – 2 divorces, not of her choosing, breast cancer and a double mastectomy, trouble with her kids, etc. She is really feeling that God has forgotten about her and she really needs some encouragement.
I would like one for myself…but I think my friend MARILY CONSIDINE probably needs the encouragement more than I do right now ! She is a mother of 2 kids – whom she homeschools part-time and is a teacher at a preschool the rest of the time; she is a breast cancer survivor at the young age of 32; and is an army wife – who is facing her husband’s 3rd deployment in the next few weeks. She’s got a lot on her shoulders right now and could really use the extra words of comfort and encouragement.

Lysa, the scripture box is a wonderful, inspiring idea. I work at a small medical office and we have a co-worker and friend named Pat. She is battling pancreatic cancer right now. She is a Jesus follower and loves the Lord. She has had multiple surgeries and is getting ready to begin chemo and radiation. I think it time to have arts and crafts at our next staff meeting and we all can make scriptures and words of inspiration to put in a box to send to Pat.

I love this idea! I have my youngest who is 1100 miles away at college and has gone through a devestating tornado on her campus..and health issues leading to an ambulance ride to the hospital.. All alone.. Reminding her that Jesus has this and will take care of her… Would love to do something like this to cheer her weary soul and restore a crushed spirit .

Such a blessing to read this today! Yesterday for the very first time I wrote down a scripture on a sheet of paper and taped it to my girls bathroom mirror so that it’s what they were looking at while brushing their teeth etc. I’d love to have this for my teenage daughter whose about to turn 17. We just relocated our family of 7 to Boerne Tx this school year, and it’s been so hard on her. I think she just feels lost. I just want her to know how special and beautiful she is in Gods eyes, the only one who really matters! Thank you!

What a great gift idea. Thank you for the verses. I have been wondering what to do for a young family who’s mom just lost a 4 1/2 year battle with cancer. She has two young sons around 6 and 8. I want to do something special for them to help them get through this and the scripture box seems like a wonderful gift they can use each day. Thank you for such a wonderful idea. I think this is a wonderful idea to do for the teens at our church. We have a very small congregation and no teen program, so I’m going to put this out there as an idea for our women’s ministry to make these for the teens. Thanks 🙂

This is a lovely way to help center our lives on what is really important. As the mother of a now 5 year old child with a degenerative neurologic illness that has left him almost completely paralyzed, I have seen my own life transformed as his care has required me to be at home almost 100% of the time. Old friends no longer call, and any “me” time is no longer possible. But, I know that my purpose in caring for my child is one guided by God, and one that I am thankful to have. I know many other mothers with children with the same diagnosis who are struggling and who could use these hopeful reminders on a daily basis, and would gladly offer this gift to a mom who could use the support. I love this idea because I have a hard time expressing my thoughts and my feelings. I have a teenage daughter battling addiction with cutting and learned those times she told me she was fine she really wasn’t so I sometimes blame myself for passing this trait of not processing pain in a positive way. I would love this scripture box to give to her to remind her how beautiful she is to God and how he loves her. Lysa, I would give it to my friend and co-worker Candy. Candy is having a lot going in her life right now. She uses a seeing eye dog. She has limited vision. She recently found out her precious friend and seeing eye dog has cancer. She is in California today because she lost her mom to cancer yesterday. As I said, a lot going on. She is a strong believer in Christ and I think right now she needs all of the encouragement and reminders she can get about God’s love. Thank you!!!
By the way, I am very challenged when it comes to creativity and I simply LOVE this idea.

My best friend since first grade we’re now 33 and 34) just recently accepted Christ to live in her heart. I am praising God today because this gas been my prayer for years. A best friend, childhood friend who we spent so much time sharing our time with… She was like another sister in our family. She went everywhere with us. You see little mamma (her childhood nick name ) lived with her grandparents bc both of her parents we drug addicts and I (big mamma- given to me by little mamma) prayed for my friend that one day she would know the love of her Heavenly Father!!! She has recently moved and starting a new fresh life in many ways and I would so love to be able share this with scripture box with her, young and fresh in her faith- she needs the encouragement of Christ!! I am so grateful for being made aware of your blog and website, Lysa. I save all the emails and refer to them often. When a friend is in need, I turn to those saved emails and forward one along to that friend. It seems as though you know exactly what to write and post on the day I need it most. Thank you. I would share this with my best friend and sister, Jo Gibbons. Like many, she is raising her granddaughter, Sophie, as her own. The child is precious! But Sophie has quite a few problems. At an age when my sister should be winding down and preparing to retire, she will be working for several more years to pay for the many needs of this child. My sister does it out of love but we are not the spring chickens we were when our children were young. We share much. We are each other’s back up therapists between visits to the ones with the degrees! 🙂 We live far apart but keep in touch. She truly is my best friend and I strive to be a source of support for her. God is good! All the time!!

The past few months have been filled with one storm after another, the loss of my mother, loss of two incomes, then of a home, then of course everything breaks down. At times I think I can’t take anymore, then a few reflections and some strength comes, the only place I feel I have to turn is my daily conversations to the Lord. Then I read my inspirations sent to my email, from Proverbs 31 Ministries. Soon I will not be able to afford my Internet ~ if no source of income comes. Thank you for all that all of you do.

Love this idea. Love the look of putting them into a crystal box. We girls love pretty things, don’t we? Another idea that is coming to me using these verses is making a personal journal for some one, printing each verse on the top of the page with your friend’s name, and then leaving the rest of the page blank for her personal reflection. Of course the journal should be flowery and lacy and come with a decorative pen. Another thought..maybe make a rock garden with pretty painted rocks with these personalized verses. Just thought I would throw some other ideas out.

I would love to have one of these to place right on my kitchen counter..in the midst of where it all happens daily! In the midst of dishes and those dishing out complaints about what is on the dish, I can go to this box for some personal encouragement.
This is such a simple, yet beautiful idea. Two people come to mind when I see these Scripture boxes:… First, my sister, Corey. While taking a leave of absence (for the 2nd year) as an elementary school teacher, she has had her disabled daughter in the hospital close to 40 times and is trying desperately to maintain a somewhat “normal” household for her other child and for her husband, who is trying to complete his last year of online classes!!!.. I can imagine this Scripture box being ever so up-lifting for her! ~~Also, Desiree — my roommate from college 🙂 — When I withdrew from UNC 2 years ago, she was so precious to me — she put together a “take-home” package for me and included a little plastic jar with funny messages and sentimental moments written on individual colored strips of paper. — Wouldn’t that be so awesome to send one back to her… only to include God’s beautiful TRUTH?! 🙂
I needed this today. Even though we have since reconciled, I have carried a DEEP hurt in my heart from unkind words of a precious friend. I am grateful for our reconciliation.! But I still hear the words that she said to me that day. I would love to have the box and scriptures to give to her as a part of my willingness to forgive and the try to forget. I will be moving to a new town soon and want to give her something meaningful that she can enjoy on a daily basis. Thank you for the devotional today….brought back many memories!

I would love to have this box (and if I don’t win it, I’ll be surely making one!) for a friend of mine. She and her husband were my youth pastors back in the day – and the last Friday they found out their grandbaby girl – 2 years old – has cancer. Never been sick (more than a cold) before and on Monday they operated to remove the tumor and her kidney. But they didn’t realize that the tumor had already burst. So chemo and radiation are in this families future!! How great would it be to have this little box with them at the hospital when they just need that extra touch from the Lord. I love this idea ! I did something similar for my daughter when she went on a mission trip across the country … I wrote the messages on ribbons and I put the pieces of ribbons in her bible for her to read each day .. My daughter has a box from Sunday School that has four stars in it with statements of where we find Jesus. She has each of us pick a star to read at bed time. She would love this. Of course, we would leave ‘insert your name’ because she has us all draw one. In less than 8 minutes EST I will be 45 years old. That I am happy about. But I have been depressed & had physical illnesses plague me for some years now.
I was listening to Beth Moore on Wednesday speak about riding up out of affliction. What caught me then, is partially what you said in today’s devotional – scripture being key to breaking the power of & renewing my mind to the Truth of whom I am in Christ. I need to memorize His word, delight in it & then apply it!
The gift you received & give, truly is a blessing, especially when used to lift us up & only to hear & believe in God’s Holy word.

Lysa, I have my mom’s Bible verse & prayer box. It’s filled with scripture verses on cards, & on the back is a prayer. My mom moved to Heaven in 2001, but I love that something that she treasured is mine to treasure, as well.

Why didn’t I think of that?? A very simple but such a meaningful gift and the uses are endless! Use pink and red for Valentines or springy colors for spring etc and I can see making these for my SS class of first graders who love to read a great way to start them on thier memory work for a life time! I could put all the verses they learned all winter into the meory box for them at the end of the school year and they could refresh thier minds with verses they learned all winter! Splendid idea for some of us who are craft-challenged!!!

This is perfect! I am preparing to go into surgery today for fertility issues (an egg retrieval) We hope to have a beautiful baby (or just good eggs today!) this would help me to stay reminded of all the positive things God has in store for my family. I was given something similar several years ago as a little extra for purchasing some barrettes and hair ribbons for my girls! I keep it as a treasure on my desk at work. It’s a jar filled with verses. They are different colored folded pieces of paper, shaped liked hearts cut with jaggered scissors. I pull one out each day as my thought/pray of the day and sometimes give a heart away to a coworker who could use it. <3

My first thought when I read this idea was a fortune cookie but so much better. I would much rather read what the Word of God says to me rather than a note in a cookie from someone who knows nothing about me. If my name is drawn, I would love to have it made for my sister Abigail, who just lost her daughter.
I can remember as a child seeing something similar to this on my grandpa’s dresser. It was scripture written on pieces of card stock which fit into what looked like a loaf of bread.
Today, I could really use the scripture box.
I could also pass it on to another in deed.

I heard you on Focus on the Family [FOF] this morning… your 2nd part of 2 on your book unglued. God allowed my husband to feel sick this morning so i would be late – not ride into town to work together – just so I could be blessed by your conversation with John & Jim. I logged onto FOF to see about ordering your book Unglued and was unsuccessful… i finally clicked on the link for you/your blog… and found this. I am going to sign up for your blog when i get through with this… and hopefully find out where i can get your book. My mother has had dementia for 6+ years now – i moved in with my folks 3 yrs ago – and got remarried in Sept ’11. She forgot how to walk last January. Since Feb ’12, my bro & his wife moved in to help too. i started working for my brother [back in fall ’08 so i could help daddy with mama] who owns his own business – the office is now in our folks garage – i deal with the day shift 8-6ish – she handles the evenings & weekends. The road has been bumpy – very bumpy at times – but the Lord has been gracious – our styles are polar opposites – but your comments spoke to me. I would like to read your book and then let her read it if she will. I think the encouraging scriptures would be a nice gift for her – i would love to have them as well – i’m not sure about how to go about signing up for a blog etc. or how to go about ordering them but i know somedays i’m ok and some days i feel like i need to be on my knees all day… God Bless you and your work. I would use this and also would make for many friends. Great idea – I love that the name is plugged into each one to personalize the Scripture, as I and others sometimes struggle to fully receive these beautiful promises for ourselves!!
My husband and I have 4 children and the Lord allowed us the opportunity to add 3 more little ones to our family through adoption. Needless to say, my time with the Lord is at a minimum (I’m working on time management to get this straightened out) but meditating on a Scripture truth throughout the day is a blessing. Lysa, I’m late to the game but LOVE this idea. I work with a group in our church called Love Justice, we bless women in our local community who are enslaved by sex trafficking. One of the things we do is show God’s love in practical ways to women in local strip clubs, by bringing a meal to them once a month and eating with them right there in the club. We also bring them gifts at Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, share with them how special they are to God and pray for them right there in the club. What an amazing gift to give to a woman as she finds the strength, courage and safety to leave this hideous industry! Thanks for such a great idea!

I look for creative ways to share the Lord’s word with others. I know He can speak alone simply by reading the Bible. The Lord does not need catchy ways of spreading the Gospel. He said it and it’s so. However, we (me) as humans need ways sometimes that are creative enough to match the personalities that we have. In addition to reading the Bible, I’m all about 3X5 cards, sticky’s, notes, jots, written scripture on mirrors, etc. Get the picture. 🙂 So in short “Awesome idea”. I would love to try this and make them for my friend’s. Thanks Lysa for being a willing vessel in spreading the Word.

I love the idea of putting them in a box. I have printed them on cards and put them on a ring for friends but a box would be cuter and so much easier!

We did something along this idea called a prayer box for a friend going through a tragedy of losing a child. Everyone in our womens group wrote a prayer or verse on their hearts personalized to her so she would have something uplifting and encouraging to read each day. What a precious treasure to know so may women and families were in prayer for them thorugh this tough season of life! This is building up the body of Christ at its best, through the Word of Truth for encouragement! Its all we have to cling to!
I will be using this for dear friends and daughters! Even as a theme box of a season they may be in, like motherhood verses, marriage for newlyweds or anniversaies, baby dedications, teenagers heading off to college, etc….
I would love to give this to my neighbor, who after several failed attempts at pregnancy, is now pregnant with twins (9wks) on bed rest. The thing is she’s got a grapefruit size clot in her uterus and her babies are only grape size. The clot or the babies will win the space in her womb. Once again, these God fearing people wait, with a looming seemingly “impossible” situation on their hands. I want to inspire her to continue to see the possible in Gods word. Please! Thank you.

What a beautiful idea. This would be a very special gift for a friend of mine who God has chosen to use her life as she memo starters His love for her through a time of sickness-stomach cancer. She shines as she awaits what her Father has for her. Her future is in His hands and she sits on His shoulder everyday through pain sometimes knocking her down but not to where she cannot still shine! She is such an example of God’s grace to all who know her and love her. It would be a joy to give this to her.

I want to thank Lisa for this excellent message and idea. My grandmother just passed away and 8 months prior my grandfather. I made these personalized scripture boxes for all of my family members and gave them out at her funeral yesterday so that everyone would have 31 days of comfort and Gods word personalized for each of us. Everyone that received one I hope will be truly blessed and find comfort in these scriptures as we celebrate the life of our grandparents and the joy of knowing they are reunited in heaven with our Heavenly Father .
I have a God’s Box, where i write on pieces of paper all the things I can’t deal with myself and hand over to the Lord. I also love this idea of doing something for others and bringing them closer to God. Not long ago I was in hospital having my second TKR when I contracted H1N1 and I am the only survivor from MICU. It broke my body totally and I was in coma & on life support for months. Every organ in my body stopped functioning and I am still hanging on but losing more abilities everyday. But, God always guides me to someone who fills my heart with Joy! Thank you for being you and listening to His voice. God Bless you!

I was at the doctors yesterday for a possible sinus infection. the doctor went over my chest x-ray I had a few months ago when I had pneumonia. she said the radiologist said that I have a nodule in my lung. that I need to go for tests to see if it is beign or maglignant. so, I’m really dumps depressed and all. yes I would like the 31 scriptures sent to me as I tried to download them but I can’t do it I don’t have thee equiptment installed on my computer.

system is in desperate need of repair). It was heart wrenching for us to not b with her in court. She was very brave and did a great job. Lysa, Thank you for this gift idea. I went on line that very day and printed out ones for all I could think of. Plan on giving one to each of my ladies in our bible study I have at my home. and the rest of the names for BD gifts, which I did last Sunday, and she was so pleased. Then was telling my sis about it and sent her the link. She was going to lunch with a group of friends the next day, at my Sister-in-laws bakery and she made one for each of the ladies and one for my sister-in law. They were all impressed with the idea.

I loved the idea. When I was a child I remember in my mother’s kitchen cubboard a blue box and the lid was attached with ribbon and on the box was a little inscription a promise a day and as you opened it . All these sciptures were rolled up and you picked one out and read it and put it back. There were about fifty of them all place beside each other and each day you were blessed. This idea brought back this lovely memory.

I have to tell you when my Pastor told me it was time to spread my wings I had had enough studies that I now needed to lead, I did not not think anyone would be interested in coming to my house for a study. She bears the physical scars of the lies that Satan had told her, but she now Glorifies the One who Paid for her slavery that she was in and now she lives with the Father of Truth. I just came back from a small church retreat where we went through “What Happens When Women Say Yes to God”. You are God’s mouthpiece and I thank Him so much for your saying “YES” to him when you developed that book and study. I am a pastors wife and have found myself in a very stagnant, fearful and not very God-focused place based on much hard experience in ministry. The study had such a profound impact on me. I love this idea. I will definitely do it. I have a Blessing Cup in my house. It is filled with candy. As the children come into the house, they immediately go to the cup. They say a word of thanks to God for something in their life and then they eat the candy. If you don’t have one, it’s a great way to incorporate God in your life. We also use it for special celebrations, where everyone takes a candy out of the cup and offer a prayer for the person being celebrated. This idea reminds me of the Blessing Cup. A new tradition to start…..Marvelous! Thank you.
