I’m Disappointed In Myself

August 30, 2014

I think I’ve finally figured out the root cause of the chaos that sometimes sweeps into my life and makes the worst of me emerge.

I struggle with decisions. I don’t want to miss out on opportunities, mess up relationships by disappointing people, or misstep right out of God’s will.

And then, I struggle with wondering if my inability to do it all will make my kids wind up on a therapist’s couch one day. How do other women seem to do it all?

And worst of all, I struggle with feeling like I’m going to let God down.

Descriptions ping in my head: I’m tired. I’m distracted. I’m disappointed in myself.

I feel slightly used and more than slightly used up. I’m a little overwhelmed and a lot worn down.

Can you relate? I thought maybe you would.

Last year I finally had to admit I wasn’t doing so well. So I put pen to paper and dared to explore this topic as an author who needs this message most of all.

This time was hard for me. Admission instead of omission.

I had to admit that I needed to reevaluate. I whispered, “God, I really want to do life right. So I give and serve and love and do and sacrifice. I do it all with a happy heart, an open checkbook, a calendar dedicated to being Your girl. I study Your Word. I tuck truth in my heart and as a trembling, brave one, I determine to charge upward and forward each day. I’m going to be fine, right God?”

And yet there was this nagging sense that something was a bit off inside me. Someone would make a request of me that I knew right away was unrealistic. My brain would say no. My schedule would say no. My reality would say no. But my heart would say yes! Then my mouth would betray my intention of saying no, and blurt out, “Yes, of course.”

I dreaded saying yes but felt powerless to say no. I dreaded saying yes not because I don’t love that person. I love them very much. But I dreaded what saying yes would do to the already running-on-empty me.

And I kept on marching as if this is how a Christian woman is supposed to live, as if this is the call on my life, as if this is all there is.

I misused the two most powerful words, yes and no.

Every assignment felt like my assignment.

And this kind of thinking almost made me crumble and quit ministry.

Friends, can I gently but honestly say it’s time to stop the chaos?

The acid of over-activity eats holes in our souls. From those holes leaks the cry of the calling that never quite happened. We said yes to so much that we missed what I call our Best Yes assignments — simply because we didn’t heed the warning of the whispers within us begging to reassess and breathe.

acidofoveractivity

Are you wanting something more for your life than an endless to-do list and the feeling that you’re never quite keeping up?

We must not confuse the command to love with the disease to please. And it’s not just because of the vicious cycles of people pleasing, although that’s part of it. I miss Best Yes opportunities sometimes because I simply don’t know they’re part of the equation.

I get all twisted up in making the decision to check either the Yes or No box, not realizing there is a third box that reads Best Yes.

I want to introduce you to a more realistic and fulfilling way to live in my new book, The Best Yes: Making Wise Decisions in the Midst of Endless Demands. Click here to purchase your copy.

Today I’m giving away a Kindle, loaded with the eBook version of The Best Yes!

The Best Yes has provided me with so many aha moments. One of my favorite books of all time! I posted my review on Amazon.com So very thankful for the blessings written within this book that have hit my heart.

I signed up…I need this so much! I have said yes too many timrs lately and although my heart is in the right place, I feel bitter and used. I feel as though I fail myself, my husband and my kids by trying to please others.

  4. Magriet

For me this is actually too late. We have desperate financial problems and because I tried to do anything I can to make a contribution to the budget, but still saying yes to the other requests I am totally burned out and have been instructed to take 3 months of total rest.
So please! All you out there take Lysa’s advice, get the book, do the Bible study before you find yourself in this situation.

The other night I dreamed about a giant dish filled with

This is a time of rest, recuperation and encouragement for me – during 12 weeks of recuperation from two back-to-back knee replacements. But that is not all. I believe The Lord is calling me to afresh start – a time of reassessment of His good and gracious priorities in my life – rather than Kathy’s. This book is a “must have” for me. So as soon as I’m up and about, I will be tracking it down. You have written a very brave book from what I’ve read here and I’m anxious to see what yes the Lord’s priorities are for me rather than what I perceive as good priorities without listening for His voice.

I signed up. Would love to have this book. I always have difficulty saying no.

With 4 kids and a husband that travels M-F, I know I need to learn how to pick out the best yes ‘ s and not over extend myself. My kids need my A games and I would like to be able to give them my best. I need to protect that very delicate balance of doing my best vs. Doing it all. I have come to learn that I can’t do it all but still struggle with the after math of feelings of letting someone or myself down. I need to learn how to embrace the balance and stop tipping the over schedule direction.

I have been hanging out for this study since P31 Ministries mentioned that we were doing this book earlier in the year!! I NEEEEDDD to learn the principles in this book, and I love the P31 OBS format, so I can’t wait for this next study to start!! Thankyou for being so open and honest in all your books, as I expect you are in this one too – it is so refreshing, and comforting knowing I’m not alone in feeling all these things 🙂 God Bless Lysa!! x

I signed up! I write this with an exhausted spirit wondering why I do what I do ? Who is it for ? When is it my turn to rest? Can just one more thing get dumped on me? I never ask these questions out loud though. I just started reading your amazing book and I feel like I have to re- read over and over to make sure I drink ip the wisdom. Thank you Lysa for allowing God to speak through you once again.

  13. Laura Z.

I’m signed up and ready to go! I’ve started to read the book already and it is fabulous. Looking forward to re-reading it with everyone in the study to go deeper and come away with a better approach to making each yes the Best Yes!

  14. Teresa Tompkins

I so need the “Best Yes” in my life. I am too overwhelmed by saying yes to to many things and wished I had said no while I was saying yes as I knew I didn’t really have the time to do what I said yes to. Something else would have to go on the backburner to tackle the new yes.

  15. Linda Daily

Thank you Lysa for writing the books that so many of us need. A few years ago my daughter bought me a coffee cup that said “Just say no.” I’m still in need of a no today or I should say a Better Yes!
    Looking forward to this study.

  16. Jennifer Byrd

I am in need of the Best Yes so bad. I am so bad about saying yes to everything and then wishing I had said no. When I do this I put aside what is really important in my life. That’s when I begin to doubt my relationship with God and feel like I am in a mess.

  17. Jackie

I NEED refreshed! I NEED this Bible study! I am more than slightly used up and that is NOT good! I work in an industry that requires me to give of myself each and every working hour. I LOVE my job, but I do NOT love my life right now…..I need to find a better balance with saying “yes” and “no” and stop feeling guilty when I do say “no”! Praise Jesus you have written this book, Lysa…..I can’t wait to get started on this study! Thank you for sharing your heart!

I’ve been awake since the wee hours of the morning and decided to do some devotionals online when I saw your email! I’ve been seeking God’s direction (unfortunately “fretting” some of the time!) in how I am going to get through the challenges that are currently laying before me. Your post struck a cord in my heart as if to say “you’re not alone and there is hope”. 🙂 Praise be to God!

  27. Janice Noble

Yes, Yes, Yes! I am making the “Best” decision needed in my life today, this moment by signing up for the Online Bible Study. I am so excited, Lysa because God is about to do a new thing for us girls that say “Yes” way more often than we should in an effort to please everyone around us instead of for the God who calls us His own. Hugs in Him!

  29. Krista

Lysa, thankK you for being willing to admit the things that many of us can’t. You’re real and you give us the strength to be, too. I have a servants heart, and sing with my church’s praise band, but I often worry that the things I do are not ultimately to bring people closer to God, but for myself instead. I love to sing… I love to help people… it makes me feel good to do so… but deep inside of me I worry that it makes me feel good for the wrong reasons. I know that God is using me to build his kingdom and He has everything under control.
I’ve signed up for this bible study and am looking forward to it. ♡

Lysa, I’ve spent my entire life living to check things off my lists. The lists made me feel secure and as though I was worthy of ‘something’ since I could point to my list all checked off. I haven’t missed all those moments but there are many I wish I could go back and capture or at least savor longer. I am hoping to share The Best Yes with my now grown daughter and my daughter-in-law so they can have a different perspective as they go through their days. Thank you for your insight and for sharing it…

Yes, I signed up for this session. With so many things going on in my life I have often wanted to take the easy way out and just call it quits. I study God’s word and try to find a reason to keep on keeping on. The end of the school year and this summer was one of the hardest seasons in my life. I hope I can stay in God’s word and see this through.

I signed up! I can so relate to the information I am seeing about this book. Not many months ago I felt so overwhelmed and frazzled and tired because I loved everything our family was involved in and just couldn’t and didn’t want to say no. Then I found out I have leukemia and everything changed. At first everyone says “just fight real hard it’ll be a tough fight but you can do it” and I was crushed because I was already so worn out I couldn’t imagine picking up another “thing” to do!! I’ve learned a lot about the “best yes” and cannot wait to do this study. And I must encourage you that God is so good and He is fighting this fight as I rest in Him! Exodus 14:14 a forced rest from the flurry of life’s decisions……

  47. Brenda

This book was perfect timing for me!! Thank you, thank you! I am a single mom, working part time and homeschooling. I’ve always had a hard time saying no to others requests and needs. I’ve always tried to do all of the activities scheduled in our homeschool group. (I mean, we’re going to miss on an awesome opportunity if we skip one, right?) In this new season of my life, I can not say yes to everything. I have learned to say no, but it’s hard and I always feel guilty. I can’t wait to get a copy of your book!

Hi Lysa! You just described me only I would say I am a lot overwhelmed and moderately run down. : ) Mostly, it is the decisions that overwhelm me. I am really looking forward to what God will teach me through the book He has written through you.

  72. Vicky D

  76. JennyBC

I remember years ago my sweet husband taking my shoulders and saying, “you really need to learn to say No sometimes.” While I have gotten better, I am not good at evaluating if the “yes” I am saying is the “yes” God is longing to hear. Looking forward to learning more about saying “no” to some very good things, just not the good thing He has in mind for me.

  77. Jennifer

This really hit home for me..I want to help and serve
At work, home and in my community but something’s always gives because I can’t be all to all. My body tells
Me when I have outdone myself. My body shuts down.i have subscribed to best yes bible study online.i really need to learn that it’s ok to say no.

Signed up and looking forward to it!

  79. Anna

Lookinh forward to the study! I feel this is really a timely message!

  80. Maureen M

I can so relate to this scenario that you mentioned….
“Someone would make a request of me that I knew right away was unrealistic. My brain would say no. My schedule would say no. My reality would say no. But my heart would say yes! Then my mouth would betray my intention of saying no, and blurt out, “Yes, of course.”

That is the way I react so often, I am trying to improve. I have never thought of the concept of a “Best Yes” but it makes so much sense. Thanks Lysa for sharing your wisdom with us!

  81. Kim holt

I am the pasto’so wife of a fairly new church. God had my husband and I planted the church 2 1/2 years ago and I have a hard time saying no. I know I can’t be everything to everyone and I need to stop trying. This bible study is exactly what I need in this season of my life. Thank you and God bless you Lysa and Proverbs 31 Ministries!

  82. Margaret

I signed up for the study. I am sure it is a best yes. I was blessed by the launch. Your speaking about Abigail was a confirmation/point in the right direction about something I had been praying about. Thank you.

  83. diAnet

I’m signed up! Thank you for this opportunity to learn a more realistic and fulfilling way to live. I NEED this! Thanks be to God for using you, Lysa, as His vessel to share these words of wisdom with us.

  84. April Moore

I cannot wait for this Bible Studay. I literally keep saying that I need to do something like this but don’t have the time! How ironic is THAT!?! Now is the time to make the time for what is most important! Thank you so much Lysa!!!

  85. BethA

I signed up. I am in tremendous need of this right now. I have an elderly mother who is demanding more and more of my time, a daughter who is in her senior year of high school (which I don’t want to miss out on, since she’ll be off to college this time next year), a husband, home, etc etc. I feel like my time is not my own and am praying for guidance.

  86. Michele Sheedy

wow, you just put into words the extreme, debilitating burn out I’ve been experiencing. I soooo look forward to reading your book and letting God show me the way back to peace

  87. Sandra Low

This will be an answered prayer.

  88. Melissa Edwards

I’ve signed up! And I’m excited for this more than anything. Everything you described is how I have been feeling. And for months and years now I’ve felt further and further away from God. My heart feels like it’s in a constant battle of helping, assisting and doing things for others and my heart suffers because I’m not saying yes to the right things. I’ve actually felt the distance grow between me and God and there are times I feel like His spirit doesn’t reside in my anymore. Thank you for this opportunity I truly from the bottom of my heart am grateful that I have already said the best yes I could have.

  89. CathyF

Just signed up. I need this!

Just signed up! I am SO excited as this will help me facilitate the group of Senior (in high school) moms who are meeting to read “The Best Yes” and to support each other as we navigate having Seniors and help prepare them to leave the best. Thank you!

  92. Cindy Frey

Why is it as women we don’t feel we are allowed to say no. But this biblestudy I am definitely needing to say yes to.

  93. Jonni

Chaos is when your flock of precious priorities have blossomed from husband and two children with explosive beauty of six grandchildren. Yes it took awhile – it grew with me!! I love my chaos. I am worn down, the only thing I would have differently is have more children. The schedules of games, taxi-ing and wondering where that stray kid is at is all worth it. The ridiculous idea of scraping the popcorn ceiling this weekend is where I gave into chaos. Don’t take your eye off the priorities.

  94. Lee Roberts

I have already signed up for the Best Yes if it is anything like your other two books I have done studies on I know that I am in for a treat. I have done “Made to Crave” and “What Happens When Women Say Yes to God” both of these have really helped enrich my life. I love being a part of a small group study and look forward with anticipation for the next study! Thanks So Much for all you do to inspire women with God’s word.

What a comment does God want me to leave. ..?
How much I love your writing?
    How much it’s saved/helped me)
I don’t think I’m screwing up my kids….just not giving them the life I wanted them to grow up in… not being the mom I want to be or use to be when marriage was happy and finances existed. Before too many losses and too many responsibilities.

  97. Heather

Lysa, I signed up for the Best Yes study because in this busy life of raising three beautiful children I worry that I am not saying yes to the right opportunities that God wants me to experience.

  98. Misty Davidson

Signed up:)! Looking foward to reading this book! Thank you for being a faithful servant of The Lord!

  99. Heather

Thank you for this Best Yes series of devotionals. I am finding it helpful to be reminded the saying yes to everything that comes my way is not always what God had intended. I need to be more intentional about the yeses I do say and more accepting of when I need to say no. Thank you Lysa.

  106. Kathy Stephens

I signed up(or tried to, not sure). Would love the shook! I need it!

  107. Karen

Signed up. I can relate to the issue of loving and pleasing. I am known as a people pleaser, but do I really need to say yes to everything I am asked to be loved? Thanks for making me think about this more in-depth.

  108. Brenda

I signed up! Don’t have a device so would love to win a copy of your book on a kindle…..win, win!!

  109. Sherrie

I can so relate to this struggle of yes and no. In the midst of church and life struggles it’s always, “My wife can do that” and I’m like, “you volunteered my to do what? Don’t you think you should have asked me first.” Add one more yes to the already full mix, mind you that I’ve already added enough of my own yeses. Wonder Woman, I am not. I’m a mom of young adult children just struggling to know just what God’s best yes for me might be. I so need this study, sign me up!

  110. Elaine Segstro

I signed up. Your book/study is so timely. Again and again, I have the symptoms of the “disease to please”. What IS the “best yes” for me? Two opportunities have arisen for jobs, which I have not sought. Is this a situation to say “yes” or not??

  111. Beth

I signed up and can’t wait! I am in the middle of a number of commitments that I have no business being involved in. I need this study desperately!

  112. Lisa

    Signed up, Yay!

  113. Bridget

I signed up and would love to learn how to “cure the disease to please”! I just want to say ” yes” to my Lord and not this hectic world!;)

  114. Adrienne

I signed up!! Looking forward to study!! Thank you!

  115. Amy Breshears

I’m signed up! So timely – I came home from work late last night in tears because I’m stretched so thin and it’s wearing me down. I wonder how I’ll have the time to participate but then I wonder how can I NOT make the time!

  116. Michelle Axton Kelly

I am so excited about your new book and bible study! I absolutely feel God has used the last few months to show me where my best yes is! My heart was centered on my home but my priorities were scattered between ministries and the needs of others. It took an auto immune disease to bring all of this to a stop. I am thankfully taking time to slow down and really “see” my precious preschoolers and husband. We read. We laugh. We give bubble baths. And capture moments. Not perfect pictures. We take short trips to the park. And I fall asleep too early per a growing to do list, but often cuddling them and knowing this…these days, are right where God wants my focus. Once again I am ever thankful for P31’s Online Bible Study which makes it possible for me to have a bible study with Jesus Girls even if I can’t get out of my pjs! Much love from Colorado!

  117. Tracy

I signed up…& we have a group of women from YOUR hometown ready to dive into this study!! Simply CAN NOT WAIT!!

  120. Cathy Heckendorn

WOW!! Homeschooling. Running a ranch in the desert. Parenting young adults. On the Board of a state homeschool organization. YES! YES! YES! I say it too much, too, and I have been praying that GOD would help me “close” my mouth and let others step up or just leave the task undone……and that would be OK, if it meant I had time to ENJOY the things I have said yes to. So, your Bible Study could not be more timely for me right now. THANK YOU for saying no to the other good things that have come your way in order to say “yes” to getting this study ready. You did it for me, and I am thankful that GOD is using you in my life this way!! Blessings!

  121. Carrie

Thank you, Lysa! I’m signed up.

  122. Jennifer

This is so timely as I have been thinking about how God wants me to prioritize my life.

  125. Nancy

Thanks Lysa for this much needed book and the offer of an ereader

  126. Kendria Oglesby

What a blessing to wake up to this. Thank you Lysa for putting my frustrations into perspective! This resonates with me in so many ways. I also need a new book right now (“read something each day from someone you admire..” ..I remember you saying that). The Best Yes and this bible study could not have come at a better time in my life.

    God Bless You!

  127. Jenelle

I am so excited for this study. I think it was so brave of you to write this book because it was an admission as you said in the devotion. I lead a moms fellowship and I have observed so many times that the studies God leads me to always end up being things that I desperately need to work on myself. I know God is going to help us grow through this study together. Thanks and God be with us all as we begin to learn more about how to say yes to Him and his plan.

  128. Cindy

I sit here in tears exhausted, discouraged and disappointed yet again, once more, for the decisions I seem to continually make that derail me from God’s perfect plan for my life. I feel helpless in the tug of war on my heart for the many tasks others seem to have for me..family, work, friends, church..and I’m lost in the tide of unmet needs..both theirs and mine. Thank you for this study. I am signed up and hopeful this will be a beacon and new journey to guide me out of a lifelong despair of pleasing others instead of my Almighty Father and find a new joy and purpose for my life.

  129. Lynn

Signed up and looking forward to the Bible study.

  130. Bonnie

Can’t wait to read your book! My soul feels like it is being eaten alive some days!

I’ve signed up! have been eyeballing this Best Yes concept for a while, and really resonate with your blog posts. Looking forward to this study!

  134. Nancy R

Thanks for the opportunity. I am getting better at saying NO. I struggle with bipolar disease, that is worsening despite medications. I have learned that I don’t have to do it all for God to still love me. I knew that intellectually but now I know it in my heart. God’s grace is sufficient. I HAVE to say NO to prevent me from sliding down again. When I am feeling well, I so want to say Yes to everything but I know that shortly I will be spinning down, so ENOUGH is my word of the year.

  135. Florence

Looking forward to the opportunity to learn and grow through participation in this OBS.

  136. Nancy R

Forgot to say I signed up for the Bible Study! : D

Lysa, I’m going to be leading a small group of ladies in Unglued. When I first read it, I knew it was a messages that needed shared & a safe place to do it in. I’m going to do The Best Yes, to guide & equipped me to help my teenage daughter as this is an area we are struggling with. Your post was written to her. I’m excited to reassess my life as well. Thank you for listening to our Heavenly Father & being obedient with your gift if writing.

  148. Christine Keith

You described me perfectly when you wrote about “I’m Disappointed in Myself” – I could use your book.

  149. Christina

I signed up… when you said these words… I felt like it was me speaking: “I dreaded saying yes but felt powerless to say no. I dreaded saying yes not because I don’t love that person. I love them very much. But I dreaded what saying yes would do to the already running-on-empty me….. And this kind of thinking almost made me crumble and quit ministry…. We must not confuse the command to love with the disease to please.” Thank you so much for addressing this topic!

  150. Pam Chapman

This is so exciting. I can’t wait for this class to start. Got my book as soon as I could. Thank you, Lysa.

  151. Donna

I signed up for the online Bible study of The Best Yes. The last study I did was What Happens When Women Say Yes to God. The Best Yes is a perfect next step to take and I know I will learn a lot of valuable stuff along the way! Thank you for all you do!

  154. Suzie Sang

Relevant, real, relatable.. A timely reminder in this season of my life.

  155. Ruth

The timing of your study could not be more appropriate for where I find myself. Learning what “The Best Yes” is, is so important in keeping our bodies from saying No. I’ve been learning that the hard way and yet as he promised, God is always with us on our journey. I am excited to be taking part in a study that will help to establish healthy, Godly boundaries!

  156. Tammie Gainey

I signed up! I need this bible study! I am excited to begin! Thank you for your inspiring words and for being “real” in today’s world!

  157. Kathryn Taylor

I love your quote, “Don’t confuse the command to love with the disease to please”. I need to learn my best yes’es

  158. Lynn

Yes, I would love to win the Book “The best yes” I always seem to find it hard to say NO. I am a people pleaser, but am I pleasing God? Am I doing the work He has called me to do effectively when I say Yes to to many requests?

  159. Sadie

Just signed up, and I’m really looking forward to doing this study!

  160. Marilyn

Sitting here today feeling all worn out, barely able to move, completely exhausted. This was my first week as adjunct faculty at a local college-no big deal I thought-18 hours is not much time to work in a field I love every week is it? I mistakenly thought I can still work f/t for my husband, right? and I can still make a few home visits each month can’t I? What I discovered quickly is that there is not enough of me to meet everyone’s expectations. I have no energy left for me. So what did I place on the back burner? everything that “centers” me such as reading my Bible, prayer time, attending my favorite weekly bible studies-and being around other Godly women.

  161. Kristin

Great quote”every opportunity isn’t an assignment.”

  162. patti

All signed up! I recently just realized how much my insides want to scream yes to everyone, not wanting to disappoint anybody, wanting to be liked and loved. I’m learning to say “let me consider this” before jumping the gun and saying yes.

  171. INchole keck

I subscribed to the bible study. I already have the book, but would have done so anyway. Can’t wait to start! and loved this post. this is so me. Disappointed often with myself.

    Hi Lysa,

I am looking forward to an online bible study – a first for me, but I am so loving the idea! There was a time when I thought the internet was “the devil’s work”, and yes, if we are not watching, we can become trapped into losing time, resources, etc. More recently, I have discovered what a blessing it is to utilize every avenue, every reason all for God’s glory. The internet has put me in touch with some wonderfully, anointed pastors and teachers from whom I have learned much about the amazing God we serve. Blessings to you, renee

  174. Chelsea

  177. Debi Love

Hi Lysa. Your devotional today pretty much describes me. For years trying to please everyone and being overwhelmed in the process. I am looking forward to this online study “the Best Yes”. For me, the best yes is spending more time in God’s Word and seeking His will and to please Him first and foremost each day. But I could sure use some encouragement in the daily walk of choosing His Best Yes!! Thanks for your ministry.

  178. Glenda Jackson

I signed up for the online Bible study for Best Yes. I can’t wait to see you in person in Fitzgerald, Georgia at the Outrageous and Contagious Conference. I signed up for the Bible Study. Looking forward to it. The treadmill of people-pleasing; I know it well. I’ve jumped off and right back on too many times to count, ugh! Well, thank you for addressing the issue with your wonderfully engaging approach. I’ve enjoyed each of your books that I’ve read. I’m sure this one will be equally encouraging and challenging. God bless!

  189. Donna

Signed up. Tears at this: “God, I really want to do life right.
And knowing, even at this, I feel like I fail.

  190. Jamie

    I signed up.

  191. Nannette

I received my book yesterday and signed up today. I need this too.

  194. Jenn

Signed up and looking forward to being able to read your book! As a homeschooling mom of four great kids, I’m in desperate need of wisdom in learning how to unrush and know which opportunities God is calling me to commit to!

  195. Evelyn Mugume

My situation is a bit different. I am able to read the daily messages because I have had the opportunity to stay in Iceland for the past six months with open access to internet services and great amenities, but in three weeks time I’ll be moving back to Uganda, and will miss this marvellous fellowship.
What is important, however, is that I make it my daily prayer for a life with Jesus. I am weak but I know that He is strong and therefore, I am more than a conqueror. I may not be able to buy this book, but will reflect on the Sermons I have watched and heard. With the Grace of God, am sure I too will have the Best Yes. God bless you, Lisa and P31, for all that you do to help us keep standing.

  196. Gina Miles

    Everyone needs to read this.

  197. Dianna

I’ve signed up and am looking forward to another Bible study with some wonderful ladies.

  201. Bobbie Lockwood

I already have the book and began reading it yesterday. Within just a few pages, I almost stopped, feeling like I needed to do the Bible Study with it. As I read more today, I had the same feeling. I was wondering how I could do it at home perhaps with my daughter and her sister-in-law. Then I saw this email. My daughter has 3 children, 16, 9, and 6 and the whole family has lots of activities. Needless to say, she needs to learn to say no or how to pick the best yes! Her SIL struggles with low self esteem while trying to please God and everyone else also. Perhaps we can all three do the Bible Study online with you!

  202. Pamela Dixon

God’s perfect timing for this Bible Study and to implement the truths in your book.
    Thankful Lysa! I registered.

    Love,
    Pam

  203. Monica Heidkamp

I really need this study. Between work and raising our seventeen year old granddaughter and everything else it seems like I’ve put what is most important in second place. Looking forward to this study.

  205. Bethany Zell

I signed up for the online Bible study because the webcast a few weeks back was SO SUPER TIMELY. It reminded me to step back and pray before making a huge decision. The message spurred me to really think about saying MY best yes and saved me from taking on a full-time job that would have distracted me from the commitment that I had made to homeschool my children this school year. God is so GOOD! I am thankful for the message of “The Best Yes” that I have already heard and excited for this online Bible study to begin so I can hear more!

  206. Vicki

I signed up for the Bible Study. Really trying to understand that every assignment isn’t mine.

  219. Julia Davison

    Hi Lysa,
I was just emailing a friend yesterday about how I experience heavy condemnation almost every day, except for when I take that time to get alone with God and ask Him how He sees me. It truly is amazing how God peels back the layers of my heart to get to ‘just me’ and from there is able to direct me to my ‘best yes.’ So much of my heart resonates with your heart, and it seems like the Holy Spirit has linked us up together so that your message comes just at the right time. 🙂 Unglued was perfect as I was getting ready to have my fourth child, and now ‘The Best Yes’ also seems to be in sync with what God wants to deal with in my heart. So thank you for sticking to God’s Word as your guide and taking the time to share what you are learning with the rest of us. I am looking forward to reading the book and starting the study with you on September 22nd!

    Have a good night!
    Julia 🙂

  220. Brenda

  226. Kristina

I was just sitting outside this evening wondering what is it that God wants me to say YES to right now. I feel His calling to something but I’m not sure what. As a mom to two little ones, there is lots of yeses (and no’s) all day, every day. I love your post today Lysa. It was a message that I needed to be spoken to me tonight. Thank you.

I’m looking forward to the study!

  227. Cathy Webb

Signed up for the Best Yes to help me simplify life & have more time to just ‘Be still ‘& know God more intimately so my decisions are then based on His will! Life is usually reacting not proactive!

  228. Nancy Dierdorf

Jesus is using your voice to speak truth to many hearts…including mine. All signed up and can’t wait to get started with the study. Blessings.

  229. Angela Roberts

I signed up to do My Best Yes study yesterday. Your blog entries about your latest book have come at a time when I wonder if I have said Yes too much. Where am I going to find the time to fit it all in? I am looking forward to some insight from another sister who may have gone through some similar soul searching. Thanks so much.

  230. Jeanne

I’m so looking forward to the lessons I’ll learn in your “The Best Yes” online Bible study . I’ve struggled pretty much all my life with the inability to say no. Therefore falling into the entrapment of trying to please everyone. To be healthy in all aspects of my life especially spiritually I need to learn to see the boundaries. I so desire to see God, his love for me and what His calling is for my life. Thank you Lysa TerKeurst for your willingness to be real and opened for the world to see. I believe God moves the furthest when we allow ourselves to be vulnerable and an opened vessel.

  231. Tanisha G

  254. April hoisington

I signed up for your online study, but I also wanted to talk to you about made to crave. I have been studying this for a couple months and it is life changing. I have been doing well until July when my daughter of 5 years old was attacked, sexually. I have lost my way and fear for my daughter every time I go to work. I still have faith and I know this is an attack but this is so hard to work through and when I started to forgive she was attacked again by a different boy and worse. I was wondering if not only this study coming up but others you could recommend for me to get past this. She is fine and she doesn’t understand how bad these acts are. I do and it’s making me feel like the worst mother on the planet. Hope you have some good news, hope to here from you soon.

  255. Yvette Lohman

Lysa thank you so much for your inspiring words. I love forward to reading the book.

  260. Tamalani Barnett

Lysa this blog post is speaking straight to my heart. After three years of grueling ministry work and a marriage completely strained due to my “yeses” I am working hard to save my yeses. I am praying for freedom from the pride that tells me I am the person for every job. Thank you for sharing your wisdom.

  261. Tamalani Barnett

Oh and I signed up for the Best Yes through P31. 🙂

  262. Iris Linkletter

I have been on a 2 year pause…..it was the best decision I have made for a very long time. I did the years of service, years of open house and open car and open bank account and loved it, served on many committees and then set up the ladies life group ministries in our fellowship, realized I was going from event to event and everything that was a yes felt like a duty and my compassion slowly leaked away my dear husband of 38 years, my now grown children who benefited from my years of flying through the calendar year from one event to another all spoke quiet words of admonishment and kind direction, my health was in serious condition and my personal faith and joy in service had hit a wall. Every yes now when I give one means something or someone hears a no. I think about it now and yes truly pray for His direction and wait for an answer. Life is calmer and sweeter. I didn’t realize that I was waiting to just exhale, til I could and then take a slow lung bursting deep breath. Take you time Lysa, God truly wants the best for you and do does your husband and children. God bless you as you wait.

  263. Shaun

    Thanks for this!!

Lysa, I would like to begin by telling you how much I have grown in my faith through P31 studies. I am a small group leader, and I am looking forward to this study very much. I haven’t been able to purchase the book yet, as I am on disability, and short of funds til the end of the month (Sept) I am planning on reading the first two chapters on line, and I am trying to borrow some money to purchase the book before the study begins but at any rate will have a copy by the time the first two chapters are read…I love your writing, and how you really do keep it real. Thank you for being such an inspiration. God’s Blessings on you and your family.

I so often am pulled in so many directions that I lose track of what I need to do and don’t always speak up like I should when I hear those whispers. I have listened to the whispers calling me to be in certain places and helping certain people but I need to do better. I need to speak out more when called upon and asked. I have read a few posts from parts of the book and hope this study and this book will somehow help me.

  364. Anne Abramoff

  368. Becky Spadea

I’m so thrilled you have written a book on this topic. 8 years ago with kids in middle school and high school I was at my breaking point w the busyness of our lives. I learned in counseling that saying no is a huge leap in my health my sanity my time w family And it was a good word not a bad word. This is going to encourage so many women to find a middle ground and not feel like yes is what they are suppose to do. You are always so awesome in your walk with God. And I thank you for publicly sharing
    Becky

  369. Tangela Day

I’ve always been a people pleaser. It all stemmed from trauma in early childhood. Being too scared to NOT please a parent can damage your soul that resonates well into adulthood. With God’s help, I’m trying to heal and live my life in the way that He would have me to live. I’ve learned that the only one I need to please is God. When I fail, He lifts me up and loves me anyway. I’m looking forward to my first online study!

  370. Paula

Thank you for helping those of us who need direction as to how to get off the “not so merry-go-round”

  373. Sommer Clark

I am SO with you! I lived that crazy Yes to everything life for several years-thinking all the ‘doing’ was for God- until it all came crashing down on me physically and I ended up in the hospital for the night due to a rapid heart beat- at 32yrs old. God revealed to me that He wasn’t asking any of those ‘doing more’ things from me- He just wanted Me! It’s been a journey in learning how to slow down and allow room for margin (freedom) when things pop up. It’s a crazy thing how for so many of us it’s actually Hard to slow down- to live in the simplicity of what Gods called us to-vs the chaos of busy-ness our world has come to respect. Busier as you know isn’t better. The one thing that greatly helps me when the guilt of choosing more wisely and slowing down tries to swoop in and Rob me of my Joy- is remembering that Jesus Himself-walking here on earth-stuck with His Father’s plan. He could have run around healing Every Single Person of all their issues and ailments but He did Not! That amazes me truly! Imagine though the human part of Him- at some level He must have experienced the pull from the needs of others deep within Him. However- He fought that pain to fulfill His Father’s ultimate Beautiful plan- for all of us! Remembering that helps. Remembering that as you say- my Best Yes is my most important Yes! God will do so much more with my Best then I could ever imagine! Thank you for writing your book! May your words help others defer from experiencing some of the consequences many of us have- and stay focused on the Main thing- Seeking Jesus First- and trusting His word is true-that when we do so we miss Nothing because ‘all these Things will be added into us’! 🙂 XO-Sommer

I’m not sure who wrote this post just now on Facebook…”Fear can sometimes creep into my heart and steal my focus away from having faith. I’m learning the first step to stop fear is to acknowledge it. Then overpower fear with prayer and God’s Truth.”
I needed to see this at this exact moment!! I’m a single mom & the sole provider of my family (my mother also lives with me) and was told this past Wednesday that my job is being eliminated 10/31/14. Today hasn’t been a good day, worry & fear are creeping in after a good church service with communion yesterday.

I signed up for the Best Yes study and bought the book and I’m in the process of reading it. I’ve been looking for answers for a long time but never quite get there. I was hoping this book would shed some light on making my Best Yes answers….however, in the midst of all that is happening in my life, I search and search for the correct answer, to know if I’m making the best decision, my ” Best Yes” decision? In reading the book and looking through your website and reading some of the resources you have available, I’m finding that one of the key things I need, is the willingness to fix what is severely broken. My marriage! Not quite sure where any of this is going or how it will even help. I guess I’m just tired of the constant pain that is associated with this marriage! I don’t even know what to pray anymore. I have studied and studied scripture and even explained the very things you have in your “love quiz”. Very good material by the way! However, both parties need to be willing, and I’m not anymore. To be honest I don’t know if I ever was willing. I said yes because of surrounding expectations. I don’t even know why I’m posting this.

  428. Lauren Jolly

I’m in the empty nest stage of life, but still overcommitting myself to too many things! My husband and I are trying to simplify, not complicate!

I just singed up! I am so looking forward to this study!

When I found out this summer exactly what your new book was based on my heart immediately was convicted. Actually, I was convicted before that, this was just my ah-ha moment. Last school year my family’s schedule became severely overwhelmed. I’m an extrovert and I get fueled by being with people. However, even extroverts can only handle so much and the three kids and husband I manage and take care of. In January I blew UP on my husband (I’m a stuffer then wham EXPLODE). It was THE worst blow up I’ve had in our 14 years of marriage. It was so bad that I had to write him an apology letter. Thankfully he’s a forgiving guy. I knew part of the issue was our overwhelmed schedule. My kids are still pretty young and we don’t HAVE to be involved in everything. So, when I saw what the book was going to be about I began praying that God would go ahead and show me how to make wise choices with my family’s time. Thankfully we made some very big decisions by saying NO to some activities. This has given me the freedom to just PLAY and be present in their lives. I know they are growing up so fast and I won’t get much longer to pour in Christ’s foundation to their little hearts. I want my kids to love serving others more than being involved in activities to take up their time. So, thank you for writing this absolutely fabulous book. I’m learning so much and realize that I have to have a BEST YES at all times.

I’m signed up! As a mother of 5, all in sports, and a husband that owns a business plus works 40 hours/week at another job to allow me to stay home, I find myself overwhelmed most of the time. And yet when asked to do something- help organize events, captaining a softball team, cooking dishes for family gatherings, volunteering to host those family gatherings- I am compelled to always say Yes so as to not let anyone down. Like I have any extra time to squeeze more activities in to my (and my kids’) schedule! I cannot wait for some insight on learning to say No once in awhile and not feel guilty about it, as well as recognizing the best Yes’s when they come along! Thanks so much for all you do to help us get through our days with less struggle!

Hello Lysa, This is to let you know that I signed up for “The Best Yes” on-line study because I am desperate to plug up those leaky holes!!

  441. Carol

I am a young-at-heart 69 year old grandmother, still running a business and “doing life” at church, at home, with friends and frankly frazzled so much of the time. Not that I don’t love every one of those things, but where’s the balance? My biggest struggle right now is I want to be an integral part of my grandchildren’s lives (in the midst of all the other “to do” things) but struggle with how much time I “should” devote to keeping my little ones & spend time with the bigger ones? My heart is really not in it right now because, well, I’m pulled in so many directions and just want to “do nothing” for awhile. How to find the balance without feeling guilty???

Signed up and ready – I want to live life according to our God and his wonderful word. Sometimes it seems all of our other yes stuff takes us away from our quiet moments and growth within ourselves to get closer to knowing our Savior.
Being overwhelmed with what the world demands of us does not compare with what we will gain when taking time out for God, I need God to guide my every step and looking foward to just learning. 🙂

I’ve signed!! Someone spoke to me about this just last summer and told me it was ok to put my family first (2young children and in the forces so we move regularly). It was a shock to me tbh. But I prayed over that and I think she was right…

I’m going to try again. I would love to win a Kindle with your book in it. I signed up for your “The Best Yes” online bible study. I know it’s going to be a good study because everything that was mentioned above sounds like me. I get so disappointed in myself because I choose the wrong thing instead of doing the best. I’ve been doing your study on “Made To Crave” a few times. Everytime I do it I learn something new. I’m also in a “Made To Crave” accountability group. That has really been a blessing. I’m hoping someday to go to one of Proverbs 31 retreat with my daughter. Thank you for all you do for us in the name of Our Lord. Sharon
