If you missed last night’s webcast on prayer with Max Lucado, the replay is now available to watch. And trust me, this is one you’ll want to take notes on:

(If you’re reading this in an email, click here to watch the video.)

Thank you, Max, for giving us such rich, Biblical teaching on prayer!

One of my favorite takeaways was that the power of prayer is not in the one who says the prayer, but in the One who hears it. I love that.

What parts of the webcast spoke to you? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below.

And here are the links to some of the things we talked about last night:

That the real purpose of prayer is to invite God to do what is right, not what we want Him to do, and to trust that all will come out for good, in His hands and in His time. Loved it. Thank you so much for this wonderful study opportunity.

Like you Lysa my favorite takeaways was that the power of prayer is not in the one who says the prayer, but in the One who hears it. It is not our will but His. I know this is going to be a great study. Max is such a gifted and anointed man.

I liked (and needed) the discussion about unanswered prayer. I appreciated your comment that if God is good, then “this” is what is best.

Thank you for this. Please pray for Eric! We have been missionaries in the Philippines for over 21 years. We are trying to help him — help himself–of course, with God’s help! He has been raised by his Grandmother. He has never met his Mom and his Dad has a “real” family. Eric’s bruised heart is a target for Satan’s evil schemes. He has been saved and baptized for over 2 years and has led well in lots of areas. He is a threat to the enemy–hence the attack. As we love people here and continue to see these attacks on lives it makes us very weary and discouraged. We refuse to surrender. His Gospel for lost souls is too important. Thank you for praying!

I am a note taker! And there were a number of remarks that I wrote down that I really latched on to from last nights talk by MAx Lucado.
The real purpose of prayer is asking God what He wants.
We have freedom to trust God. PTL!
If we pray and think now it has to happen because we ask in faith, we think we are wiser than God! We ask, then let God do what is best!!
Thank you for your ministry and your book, Pastor Lucado!

This study is so timely for me. I’m new to my church and new to a life of trust and faith in Christ. I just participated in a women’s retreat, with the loving women of said church. The theme was Prayer. And this past Sunday’s sermon on beatitudes, specifically “pure in heart” by a man who is so transparent in his love of the Bible and God. Leaves me with no doubt that the only way is His way. I have an overwhelming feeling of peace and love. I can’t wait to learn all and be all my savior has planned for me. Thank-you for being a blessing in my life.

I liked the part about Unanswered prayer…. God is good. His nos are good, his waits are good. He knows what he is doing even when we don’t like his answers.

I am looking forward to reading Max’s latest book. I am also a ‘prayer wimp’. I feel like the dog in the movie UP, every time he heard or saw a squirrel his attention was gone. That’s is how it is in my prayer times. So many distractions. But I also know that “God is good. I need help. They need help. Thank you. Amen”

Thank you so much for putting on this bible study! I loved the webcast and got so much out of it! I have already begun my homework of giving my problems to God. In fact, it came in handy when I woke up in the middle of the night worried with problems! Excited for everything I am learning through this online study!

I have been unemployed for a few months and experiencing more depression than usual. I know that God closed one door and I have been anxiously waiting for the next door to open. However, I am learning that it is on “his” terms (unanswered prayers). In the time I have been off, I have done and read things that I would not have, if working. While we are still struggling financially, I’m starting to understand my life better, and accepting it. I am thankful for this opportunity to learn more about how I can grow through prayer.

I loved the video and Max calling God, our Creator, “Daddy.” I pray often, but calling Him Daddy makes it more personal. I also liked the study guide today. Especially where Jenna described the essence of prayer: “We speak, He listens. He speaks. We listen.” I have no problem with the speaking part and knowing He listens. It’s the “He speaks. We listen” part I have problems with. I’m not always sure what He’s saying to me.

Oh I loved this!!!! I lost my sister in 2006 and my very best friend in June. So I had unanswered prayers. I was mad at God. I quit going to church. I was so lost. This answered so many questions I had!!! And I have been looking for them!!!! I love the childlike faith!!! My grand daughter is 5 and was recently diagnosed with cateracts in both eyes. Her eye sight not good. Surgery the day before thanksgiving! So I have been on my knees asking why??? Crying spells. Until she told me “Nana, it’s going to be ok! Jesus is going to heal me”! She has such faith!!!! Her parents take her to church! They have made sure she has Jesus in her life!!! Thank you girls and Max Lucado for all you do. I know Proverbs 31 girls have each helped me in many different ways!!!! I love them!!!!!!

I too agree with all the comments before me. Max, you are awesome using your gift of
speaking, writing and being a Pastor. Lysa too with so many articles, etc. All the women and Max did such a good job of showing how none of us are perfect and we all have
things that bother us or we think are not good enough. God is the only perfect One-and HE IS GOOD-all the time, for sure. This book and online study has been such a good refresher for me about prayer. I have been in a slump or dry spell lately. Thank you all so much for giving of your time and talents for so many of us.

Wow! I am in awe of how awesome our God is. I didn’t think so many people struggled with the same issues concerning prayer as I do. After asking God for a closer walk with Him and a deeper prayer life, He lead me to this online bible study. Thanks to ALL of you for being obedient to the voice of Christ. And to pastor Lucado I say thank you as well. I haven’t read any of your books prior to ‘Before Amen’ but after reading this book and hearing you speak on the webcast I believe you will be one of my favorite authors. May God continue to shower you all with His blessings. The power is in the one who’s listening. God is listening!!

I love the part”it is not about the power of who is praying, but about the power of who is being prayed to.” It is also a relief to know that simplicity in prayer is ok. I am constantly throughout the day throwing up one liners. I am still trying to in vision the” crawling up in my”Daddy’s lap”. I feel so blessed to be a part of this study. Thank you all so very much. Have a blessed day.

So many important lessons packed into this tiny video. Lysa, I think reading your book to my children will be as big of a reminder to me as it will be a good lesson for them. They are all about ninjas right now and reaching your “true potential.” I’ve found myself wishing there was a simple, good Christian version of this story. It seems you have written one. Thank you!

Thank you so much. My mom prays for hours a day but I tend to shoot prayers up throughout the day which mostly sound like, “Jesus help me!” as I rear these three children. Being an only child things were always so quiet, and quite frankly all about me and my way. Now with homeschooling three children with vastly different personalities I have to depend fully on God to shine His presence on my children. May we be filled with love and grace. And thank Jesus that He is more than enough to redeem our families.

I want to live in a state of prayer, where I turn to Jesus first, before anything or anyone. My take away from this message is “Prayer isn’t asking God to do what I want, it is inviting God to do what is right.” That changes everything!

This was so good – especially starting at about 26:45 – it hit me right where I have been and how I have been struggling for a couple of years after being a strong prayer warrior and having a strong faith. My 22 year old daughter has major health issues that have had a huge affect on our life; individually, as a family and in my marriage. I have been avoiding God — for the same reasons they talked about in this video. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. So glad I came to this Bible study.

I just wanted to let you know, Lysa, that God has used you to encourage me today on facebook. As a young mom and wife, there are so many times I feel overwhelmed. You let me know that I’m not alone. I am blessed by a wonderful husband and daughter that love me. Thank you for your reminder of that today, to always look up rather than down.

I could not believe what weight left my shoulders when I heard Max say prayer is not so much asking God to do what we ask as it is inviting God to do what is right. It is so hard to get past the performance stigma as a Christian when the world is so in your face about performance. Also, hearing that just clicked for me as I struggled with “what am I doing wrong, why am I going through all this pain, why am I not healed yet” and on and on. It’s not about how many times I’ve prayed or how I prayed, It’s trusting that God has my back, He knows my heart and He does love me. Thank you so much for this study. It certainly came to me at the right time in my life.

I loved listening to Max Lucado speak! Thank you. It struck me when he described Mary’s prayer/request to Jesus….. She simply stated the problem. No potential solutions or opinions. This is exactly the opposite of what I always coached my children to do with ME. I didn’t want them to tell me they were thirsty, I wanted them to begin to learn to solve the problem by asking me for something to drink. Maybe I do that to God?? Maybe I need to “unlearn” some things!

Thank you so much. I was able to watch the webcast this morning and it was such a blessing. I love the simplicity of Max’s prayer. There were so many takeaways, but I think the one that resonates most is about our perceptions especially that of what appears to be unanswered prayer, but is it really. God is good! May God bless each one of you deeply. Lysa your description of your book spoke volumes and I have some perfect little children that will be getting It will be okay this Christmas!

I wasn’t able to be a part of the live webcast, but I just enjoyed watching the recording. Renee Swope summed up how I have been feeling about my prayer life…just one big to-do-list (that’s how I perceive God thinking about me…”Oh my, here’s Janie again with that same ole to-do-list”). I was able to put all into perspective when Lysa TerKeust said “Where my problem meets God’s power, that’s where promises fall.” Thank y’all for your obedience to God!

I was just able to watch the webcast this morning and was only able to get through the first part with Max. I have such a heavy heart right now as my daughter is expecting a baby in just 6 weeks and her husband lost his job yesterday. My heart is breaking. I have been lifting them up for months now concerning his job situation and it has come to this. I am thankful that Max asked me to literally put my hands together and physically lift my concerns up to our Father this morning…this brought me some peace this morning. Thank you Father, and Max.

I really enjoyed this presentation. Sometimes I struggle with what looks like unanswered prayer. My little girl passed away several years ago at the age of two from a virus and I struggle with health issues. I now have a daughter named Hope just like Lysa. I do believe my first daughter was healed by being in the presence of Jesus and made whole again. Thank you for the honest discussions!

I struggle with the reason for prayer, not that I don’t believe in the power of prayer, I do, very much so, but Max states that the purpose of prayer is to ask God to do what is right. Can he do anything else? I have a hard time believing that bad things happen to us because we didn’t ask God to do what is right. The God I serve, that I have given my life to, has promised that he will care for me, and love me regardless of what I do for him, or ask of him. If we don’t take our struggles to God in prayer, will He/can He choose to not do what is right??? I personally think prayer is more a matter of us letting go and letting God, than it is giving God permission to or asking God to do what is right. His character dictates that all He does is good.
