Last week I wrote about prayers for your marriage. There was such a response, I decided this week to have my friend Brooke McGlothlin write a guest post on 10 prayers for your son. (On Friday I’ll be posting 10 prayers for your daughter.)
Here’s my friend, Brooke…
He looks at me with a “heels dug in” kind of glare. I know if I said, “the sky is blue on a sunny day” he would try to prove me wrong.
Sometimes, I don’t feel like we’re on the same team anymore, my son and I, and it breaks my heart.
On days like today, when he’s arguing with everything I say and trying his eight-year-old best to do things his way, it seems I’m fighting against him—like there’s a war going on in my house between me and my son, and a distance between us I want to bridge no matter the cost.
I know from my education that this process of differentiation is pretty normal. Boys ache for independence from mama, and feel ready to “boldly go where no man has gone before.” They want to be strong, assert their opinions, and explore their own ideas. Unfortunately, at the McGlothlin Home for Boys, we’re living in the in-between season— where ideas abound before they are mature enough to handle the responsibilities that go along with those ideas.
And so we butt heads.
Sometimes, I’m tempted to let our circumstances tell me my son is the enemy—he’s the one I’m fighting. But then I remember…
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12 ESV
When the days of mothering grow long, and make a girl weary, and when what you really want to do is lock your son up in his room and throw away the key, it’s good to remember this:
He’s not your enemy. But there is an enemy.
That’s right, our sons have a real enemy—one that wants to kill, steal and destroy them (John 10:10)—but that enemy, according to the Word of God, has an opponent himself that’s a force to be reckoned with.
You.
Me. Any mother who’s willing to get on her knees and cry out for the heart of her son.
James 5:16 says, “the prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with” (The Message).
The best way a mom can enter the battle for the heart of her son is on her knees, so let’s start fighting for him right now.
10 Powerful Prayers to Help You Fight for the Heart of Your Son
1. Create in my son a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within him (Psalm 51:10).
2. May my son walk after You, God, and fear You and keep Your commandments and obey Your voice. May he serve You and hold fast to You (Deuteronomy 13:4).
3. May my son be strong and courageous and not fear or be in dread, for it is You, Lord, our God, who goes with him. You will never leave him or forsake him (Deuteronomy 31:6).
4. May my son walk before You, God, as King David walked, with integrity of heart and uprightness, doing according to all that You have commanded him and keeping Your statutes and rules (1 Kings 9:4).
5. Like Timothy, may my son be an example to believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity (1 Timothy 4:12).
6. May my son listen to the way of wisdom and be led in the paths of uprightness (Proverbs 4:11).
7. Lord, be with my son in trouble; rescue him and honor him (Psalm 91:5).
8. May my son honor his father and mother… (Ephesians 6:2).
9. May my son have love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith (1 Timothy 1:5).
10. May my son think on whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is commendable; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, may he think about these things (Philippians 4:8).

Thank you, Brooke, for this beautiful list of Scriptural prayers!
Brooke McGlothlin has a new book called Praying for Boys: Asking God for the Things They Need Most. It’s an insightful and much needed book for all moms of boys. Click here for more details.
And today, Brooke is giving away 5 copies of Praying for Boys! To win, leave a comment below telling us what prayer you are praying for your son(s).
I am praying for my son to pay attention in school and to find godly boys to play with. He is having a rough time and he is only in first grade.
I am praying the same thing for my first grader…I’ll keep yours in prayer too 🙂
Even though my son is not my biological son, he is my step-son, I pray he finds in his heart love for me and his new baby sister (my biological daughter with his dad). I pray he learns to respect me and vise versa and hopefully one day to grow into a loveable man walking in faith as well as having love for me that i long for from him.
I am praying for my son to grow to be a man of God!
Praying for favor – Luke 2:52 And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man. (NIV).
Thank you for this post. I too have been feeling the frustration of the ‘heels dug in’ ‘head butting’ with my lovely, yet headstrong aching for independence 9-year old son. In addition, my 16- year old doesn’t seem to be really understand or value the importance of godly characteristics like integrity, uprightness, etc. they’re both wonderful boys, and these prayer points will help me target specific areas to keep them covered.
Thank you!
I am praying that my son has a heart that seeks after God and His truth and guard his heart and mind from any lies. Thank you for sharing these powerful prayers….Giving us words to cover God’s future army:)
Such a good list! We pray with him every night that he would follow hard after God all the days of his life. I’m going to add these prayers to that!
That my sons would trust in The Lord and that He will make their paths straight. (Prov 3:5~6)
I pray my ten year old soon continues to hunger for & seek God in his life daily. I pray he continues to be a strong young man of God, being a witness & blessing to each life he comes across daily.
I am praying #7 for my twenty something sons-both of whom have drug addictions. Satan seeks to destroy them, but he will not win…they are the Lord’s and He has already won. Praise God!
I have a 15yo son and I pray Proverbs 3:5-6 for him
I pray that my son be saved at an early age (he’s 3), that he may learn to love God with all his heart and soul and that he may serve God with an open heart.
I Am praying for one of my sons to find direction in his life. He did not complete college and now feels like it is something he should do. He feels that he failed and is depressed over choices he made in college. I also want him to find someone he can share his life with as I feel he is lonely with all his friends getting married. It breaks my heart to see him going through all these things again.
My son is 9 and I know that “heels dug in” glare. Lately he is showing it more to his dad than to me. He actually is more agreeable with me and sometimes I hear him tell his dad he wants mom to help him or brush his hair, or tuck him in. 🙂 But what to pray for him – so many good ones up there. I think – May my son listen to the way of wisdom and be led in the paths of uprightness (Proverbs 4:11). I never know who might be influencing him on the bus or at school – so I think this would be my prayer for right now.
Oh how I needed this today. I could have written the “battle” part myself…about my 8-year old! And How I have prayed & been at a loss of what to truly pray. Just this week, I prayed for God’s help to even know WHAT to pray to help my son & to help me be a better mom to him. And here – your post- provided that answer! Thank you!
We moved from Maryland to Florida in 2012. My oldest son who was 19 then stayed behind with his grandparents. I gave him the choice on whether to make the move or not since he was an adult and I could tell he was so torn on what to do. We try to visit each other as much as finances allow (not often enough!) but it is hard being so far away. Every night I pray he makes the right choices as he attends college there and is faced with the temptations of today’s younger generation. I also have a 7 yr old and a 14 yr old…all in different seasons of their lives and this Momma gets overwhelmed sometimes but I know God does not and I am constantly praying for all of them! It is a blessing to have all boys and my prayer is for all of them to have a true faith that is indicated not just by words but backed up in love and action as well.
I pray for his salvation & that the things he’s heard at home & Sunday school as a child keep coming to mind @ the right times.
I pray for some good, godly friends to befriend him, and for the best teachers for him.
Hebrews 10:35…I’ve been praying that my 15 y.o. son would have courage, and be brave. He is facing some new situations in high school that are stretching him. Definitely adding Deut 31:6 to pray over him! Thanks for this list!!
Our family experienced a major health crisis three years ago as I became very sick, was placed on oxygen for 16 months and ended up having a double lung transplant. My son Grant was only 7 at the time and was very afraid that his mom was going to die. I pray against the anxiety that plaques him daily and decree that in Jesus name Grant will walk in faith and not fear.
I’m praying #6 for my adult son who is separated from his wife and children.
Thank you for these beautiful prayers for our sons. My continued prayers for my son are good true friends and following God. He doesn’t have a best friend and it breaks my heart because he desperately wants one.
I am praying that my son will love The Lord above all else, love His word and His ways. Pray that he will receive wisdom , discernment and revelation from Gods word.
Praying that God will bless him with wisdom and discernment.
I am praying my son will stand firm with his eyes on Jesus during the storms of life.
I’m praying the 1st one. My son lied to me over something silly to avoid a “lecture”. Praying that verse over us both. My son to remove lies and me to remove any “lectures” that he would lie to avoid.
I am praying the 10th prayer for my birthday 10 &12 yr old boys. It reminds me that I am raising not just boys but men with a heart for our Lord.
Darned spell check…..
Praying prayer number 10 over my 10 year old son. Really dealing with bad attitudes right now. It’s been hard on him changing schools this year and making new friends. He and his father really butt heads lately.
I love Brooke’s scriptures for praying for our sons! The power of praying the Word of God is so powerful. I am praying specifically for my 14 year old son . . . . . that he would do all unto the glory of God and use the gifts and talents the Lord has given him for His purpose.
I am praying for things to click in my son’s head, he’s having a tough time in school & needs a miracle. Going to be praying Deuteronomy 31:6 for him
I have five boys ranging from ages 25- 5, I can use as many prayers as I can as each are experiencing different stages of life. The prayer I am leaning on today is Philippians 4:8.
Mahalo for your new book!!
I have 3 sons and I pray for godly relationships for all of them. Mostly tonight, I’m praying for my oldest for physical healing as he has suffered with unknown stomach issues for a long time.
Thank you so very much for this list! I pray daily that my sons would be clothed in the full armor of Christ; and not only be a blessing to those around them, but also be an example to believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity (1 Timothy 4:12).
I pray the my boys walk and seek hard after God my He fill the voids in their hearts, left a lot of times by their dad.
I’m praying for my son to learn more about God as soon as he can and lead a life in His footsteps. My son is only 1 1/2 but he is already being taught the word 🙂
I pray for physical healing and protection for my son who has severe asthma and a life threatening dairy allergy. I pray for Godly friends for both of my sons, who will live life with them, in a way that pleases God and strengthens their relationship with Him, while meeting their social needs.
I pray that as a single mother I can guide my son in the right direction towards God. That he will believe in him and trust him. His father has never seen him and his father doesn’t believe in God. I need the courage to lead him.
My two boys are grown, 25& almost 30. They both excepted the Lord at a young age. I am said to say neither are following the Lord right now. All those prayers are good, but I would pray
the first one. That some day they will find the Lord again. And he will give then a clean heart and they will follow Him!
I will pray number 7 please Lord be with my Son in trouble. I have been battle with him for a lot time. Today he still doesn’t have a steady job seems like I’m always wrong and friends are correct, long story. Please with pray for him.
I am praying for my son Steven to find his path in life. I pray for him to be happy, healthy, safe and to love the Lord.
My son got married in September, 2013. He wanted to wait a couple of years before having children, to give them time to learn one another, and get ready for parenthood. They’re expecting a child in September 2014. He’s concerned about finances, as well as a bigger place for them to live. They’re in a small duplex. I’m praying for strength for their marriage, peace for their minds, financial blessings, and a bigger place for them to bring baby home. Most of all, I’m praying that their faith and relationship with God will continue to grow stronger.
The Lord is speaking to me thru this post, I have to learn to trust in Him and Pray! Pray! Pray! My oldest son is 18 years old and a senior in high school. Trying times in growing into a young man, finding his own way to the Lord and dealing with a broken heart. A very challenging time as a mother, thank you for reminding me who the enemy really is. My prayer for my son is Jeremiah 29:11 Blessings
Praying that my youngest son would rekindle his relationship with The Lord and have a burning desire to know Him more and live for Him. Thanking God for my three sons and the BLESSINGS they have been in my life.
My heart is so heavy as tonight my tearful 10 yr old told me that his friend had been showing him bad pictures on the Internet. He prayed with me just hours ago and thanked God for helping him to come to me with the truth. I thank God, truly, for his openness but my heart is breaking for the loss of innocence. As I am in bed crying out to Jesus for wisdom, I just received this post. His timing is perfect…I am praying 10 especially for my son.
I wil pray the prayer about creating a clean heart for my 12 year old twin boys. It is such a tough worl for boys and girls to navigate these days. Kids need our prayers.
I was so thankful when I read this post. I have been butting heads with my son who is 8 and have been praying asking God for some direction on how best to parent him ( my husband isn’t a believer so often I feel overwhelmed with responsibility for leading my boys to God). What an answer to prayer this is! ! A book of prayer written by a Christian woman praying for her 8 year old son! I still get a little freaked out when God answers prayers so specifically! LOL! Thank you!
I am praying: May my son be strong and courageous and not fear or be in dread, for it is You, Lord, our God, who goes with him. You will never leave him or forsake him (Deuteronomy 31:6).
I don’t have a son as yet but I have a brother. I thank you for the prayer points. I’m definitely praying for him to be saved.
My son is 3 and I pray over him
Luke 2:52 ” let him grow in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.”
I pray that my son will put on the whole amour of God.
I pray for his salvation and understanding at an early age and desire a close relationship to God. Isaiah 45:8, 2 Timothy 2:10
Self Control– 1 Thessalonians 5:6
Respect– 1 Peter 2:17
Strong and Courageous – Joshua 1:9
When he is afraid we learned the verse
Psalm 56:3
When he says he can’t I want him to remember he can through Christ Phil 4:13
From Mark Batterson book, Praying circles around your children I like a quote from his book.. “That they won’t just survive, but pray that they will thrive.”
As a mom I just want to understand my child and give him the attention he needs.. As moms we all need grace to to be that role model. I already pray for his spouse too and me as a mother in law..
Being a Godly parent is the hardest thing I have ever done and it only gets harder.. Now I have a 10mon daughter and look forward to more scripture to pray over her.
I am praying that my son falls in love with the Lord.
I’m especially praying Deuteronomy 31:6 for my oldest son as he enters big testing time for third grade, that he wouldn’t be fearful… He has high anxiety over almost everything… For our youngest son, I pray over him Philippians 4:8 as he’s started kindergarten for the first time and is experiencing some not so wonderful influences!! I’m so grateful I received this email this morning!!! I can’t wait to read more!!!
Thank you for these prayers, reading through them they really resonated with me as a mum of two boys aged 10 & 6. These scriptures are going to be prayed Over & over my boys!! X
Thank you for these prayers, reading through them they really resonated with me as a mum of two boys aged 10 & 6. These scriptures are going to be prayed Over & over my boys!! Thank you Brooke 🙂
As my son has just started his junior year of college about 2 hours away from home (1st time) I am praying # 1, 4 & a prayer of protection!
God used your words at a perfect time for me, and I am so grateful! My 4 year old has just entered the “digging in his heals” stage and is only doing it with me and not my husband. Satan was trying to use that to make me feel like I wasn’t doing what I needed for him as his mom. Now I know, it’s normal and Satan better watch out because I will be praying all of these prayers but especially:
5. Like Timothy, may my son be an example to believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity (1 Timothy 4:12).
Thank you for this awesome message!
Thank you so much! This was written just for me. My oldest son and I are in exactly the same place. Some days are worse than others, but I definitely pray Phil. 4:8 over him. Thank you so much!
One of the prayers for my son is that he only hears the voice of God on his life and not the roar of the world. My prayer is for encouragement not discouragement, for strength not weakness, and for kindness above toughness.
I’m praying Deut. 31:6. Our young men definitely need prayer, these are some tough times for them. So many temptations that come right to them in this digital age, they don’t even have to search for it. We need to be prayer warriors without a doubt.
Wow, the timing couldn’t be better. A tearful morning yesterday and sending my boy off to school upset with me…..again. Struggling with issues with my 12-year-old. Thanks so much for posting. Would love to have the book.
Oh my goodness, did this hit home! I have 3 boys ages 19, 15 & 7 and I pray every day that they will grow to be respectful, honest, loving boys who will become men who follow hard after God.
What an inspiration! I am so glad to know that others struggle with the same battles. I pray daily for my son’s salvation and that we will raise him to be the kind of man God wants him to be. Thank you for your post!
Thank you!! I have 3 boys and have been looking for direction as I pray for them. My oldest and I struggle to see eye to eye so I am praying for peace and patience for both of us!
I have two boys ( and two girls). Those prayers are great things to pray even over others. I often pray scripture but never thought to pray those particular things over my children! Thanks for the thought provoking words!
My son & I have been having disagreement yelling & comments that I don’t appreciate anything he does or think he is doing GOOD.
I will pray for all the things listed and hope the Lord heal & strenghtens my Heart so he is able to know I love him and appreciate him that the Lord has given me such a Beautiful Child:)
May my son think on whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is commendable; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, may he think about these things (Philippians 4:8).
How I love these! Primarily, because they are quoting Scripture in a succinct, personalized manner. I have found that praying Scripture keeps my heart and mind focused on the outcome that I seek, not tangled in up in particular problems I face with my son. In this way, I don’t get sidetracked thinking about what I should (or shouldn’t) do, but focused on God’s will for him. Thank you for these!
I am praying that my son will follow hard after our Lord. That he will have a loving and generous spirit.
Our sons are both grown and out of the nest, but my prayers for them now are stringer than ever. I pray for wisdom in decision making for both of them. And for the older one I pray that he will return to his relationship with the Lord.
Praying Phil 4:8 for my son today. Thank u for your blog post. …God Bless You.
Teresa
I hope I might be considered to recieve this free book.
I have four boys under the age of 8. . . always pray that they would choose to honor Jesus today!
I soooo needed this!! I have a 14 year old teenage son and sometimes I think I’m failing in the parental arena! These 10 prayers are things that I have thought and prayed about for my son many times. Even some that I haven’t but will start today! I will definitely print these out and refer to them often probably even memorize them!!! Thanks for the extra reinforcement for raising a son!
6. May my son listen to the way of wisdom and be led in the paths of uprightness (Proverbs 4:11). My son is 20 and he is at a crossroad.
What tender words!
Thank you so much for this! My son is in the military and is struggling with his faith. My prayer for him for many years has been – God, send someone who he respects into his life that will speak Gods truth to him and soften his heart that he might hear.
Praying 1 Corin 6:19-20 for my 14-yr old son…for wise choices & decisions in his life. (I’ve seen that “heels dug in” glare from my son too- loved your post!)
I am praying that my son wil have a steadfast faith that will be stronger than the urging he gets from his friends. That he will be pure and remain calm in the face of the pressure that he feels to fit in.
Today I’m praying that my son will be his own person. That he will not follow the crowd and do what all of his “friends” are doing. But that he will follow his own path God has set for him, and if others follow wonderful, but even if no one follow, he will continue to walk and know God’s love.
That in this teenage time of raging physical hormonal growth, that he will keep God first and foremost by thinking on that which is true, honorable, just, pure, commendable, excellent, and worthy of praise (from Philippians 4:8). The world is pulling him to girls, fun, freedom, exploration, and a mindset that Satan can use to attack and destroy him. Lord, protect him today. Flood him with your truth and let Satan’s lies be so evident that he will flee only to YOU!
I read this somewhere, and continue to pray that my 4 boys make wise choices, and to be caught early when they don’t while there is time to make their wrong choice right.
I am praying for both my boys that somehow God will bring good out of their learning disabilities. That they will feel uplifted and good about themselves. That will they will feel successful. That they will feel the Lord is on their side as we walk this school journey.
I have 3 sons. Praying especially for my 14yo stepson that The Lord fights for his soul as he is on the fence between this world and the kingdom as he bounces back and forth between households. . Praying he returns to the joy of his salvation and runs to Jesus.
Thank You, Brooke!! I am praying that my son will find godly friends and find value through his relationship with God, not the “stuff” of this world!!
Hi,
Thanks so much for this post. I actually have this book on my wish list! My prayer for my 10-year old son is that he will develop a real, personal relationship with His Lord and Saviour. Our feel with being pastors is that he will live our faith and not develop his own. Thanks again! God Bless.
I am praying for my 2 sons that they will have good health.
My prayer is for my teenage son that he navigate the challenging years of high school (freshman year this year) and know that Jesus is with him every day to guide him through.
I’m printing this out to hang on bathroom mirror to pray every morning and every night and any time in-between I see it! THANK YOU!
Thank you for sharing these prayers! I’ll be praying all of them for him…. He’s ten and we’ve butted heads lately
I’m praying that my son’s natural gifts and leadership skills would be used to make a difference in the lives of others. That he would be a strong, loving example of Christ.
I so needed to be reminded of this today. I have five grown sons but I still need to be praying over them! Especially the one in Afghanistan who is struggling with his faith.
I am the mother of 4 children with 2 boys aged 18 & 19…
They have not had their biological dad in their lives and I know they are hurting in particular the younger one. My prayers for them:
1) That they will first learn to forgive their dad and through their lifestyle and behaviour lead him back home to God.
2) That they would continue to seek God for His will for their lives and having heard from Him. walk in His favour.
3) That they will also seek after the things of God.
Thanks for sharing this article today Lysa.
I pray daily for my 3 teenage sons. I ask for the grace to lead them to a healthy positive God filled lives. Help me to show them Gods grace-
For my boys I am praying today that they make the choice to follow in Jesus’ footsteps, with each choice and decision they make today I pray they are aware of Gods constant presence in their life guiding them to make the right choices. I pray they have the courage to stand even if they stand alone. I pray that they will be loving to those they come in contact with today and most of all share Jesus with someone.
My prayer is that my sons stay on the path that the Lord has chosen for them, and that the four of them would share a brotherhood and friendship like David and Jonathan
More than ever I pray for my boys. They are both in the USAF and in these troubled times, I worry about deployments as well as being caught up in the life of an airman and others who may be bad influences on them. Thank you for this blog today. It truly touched my heart and made my eyes leak a little :-). Thank you Brooke.
God bless you Lysa for being REAL and giving hope and sometimes clarity to me through God’s Word.
Praying #10. (and all of them) When you have teenage boys sometimes, with all that is blasting them in the world with social media, it is hard for them to keep pure thoughts. Praying thru these teenage years.
I have three boys, ages 2,4 and 5. My husband and I pray right now that they are learning and practicing kind words and actions. That the words we read together for devotion are sinking in and that they will find and trust that relationship of giving their hearts and lives to Christ when that moment comes for each of them! Thank you for the suggestions and encouragement!
I have 3 of the sweetest boys in the world. What a treasure they are! I’m praying my sweet boys grow to be men of God full of integrity, boldness, and Grace. I’m praying they are never ashamed of Who they are in Christ, but will always take a stand for what is right!
My son is my only child and he has blessed me with a grandson. They are my boys. At this point in life my son is finally pulling his life together but I defininitley missed the mark of ensuring God held a place in his life. He tells me that he remembers seeing me on my knees praying when things were bad but he doesn’t do the same. He does make sure my grandson says his prayers but they don’t attend a church. I would love a copy of this book to pray over both my boys perhaps in a better way than what I am doing now. God is working miracles in my sons life and I want him to be able to and want to give God all the glory. Thanks so much for the post today! Such a blessing!
My prayer is that my son would be a man after Gods own heart. 1 Samuel 13:14
Wow! What great advice. I love the scripture prays and plan on praying them for my boys. I have two boys and my prayer for them have always been, that they know God as their personal savior, to have a close relationship with him. That they would be Godly men, leaders in this among their peers. That they would honor and respect women and girls. That God would reveal himself to them in a mighty way so that one day they will grow up to be good daddy’s and husbands.
Praying that the Lord gives my 2 yr old adopted son a cooperative spirit now and as he grows up. Also pray that He saves Him to use Him for His glory!
Praying that my sons heart would be turned to his father and mother and heavenly one too!
I have three boys. My oldest will be 8 in March. I am struggling to be the mom God calls me to be. I need direction to learn how to pray for my sons. I desperately want them to be Men of God as they grow older. Thank you for this post. I want this book!!
Thank you for this post. It was exactly what my heart needed to read this morning.
I am praying Philippians 4:8 over my boys. May their minds think on what is true, honorable, just….
I have two boys – 12 and 7. I am praying that they will be strong men of God. That they will stay pure and true to God and His Word. That God will keep them from addictions and from evil. That they will not be easily swayed by their peers. So much to cover in prayer for them. Never feel like I am doing enough praying or the greatest job being a mom.
I am printing this off and tucking it away for safe keeping for when my now 4 1/2 month old grows up! But for right now my prayer for him is that he grows up to LOVE the Lord and to come to know Him at an early age! I pray that his future spouse (even if she isn’t born yet) will do the same! That they they will be pure until they meet and will serve the Lord both separately and together!
Lord, be with my son in trouble; rescue him and honor him (Psalm 91:5).
This prayer sticks with me right now as my son a senior in HS has been making some wrong choices and hanging around the wrong people and I confronted him and he was honest enough to come clean and went to church this past Sunday and seeked prayer and counsel. A praying mamma on my knees I stay!!
May my son be strong and courageous and not fear or be in dread, for it is You, Lord, our God, who goes with him. You will never leave him or forsake him (Deuteronomy 31:6).
Thank your this post today. I am committing to pray these scriptures over my boys. I have been praying for a teachable spirit for my one son. He is currently 13 and knows everything about everything! My heart hurts for him and I pray he will soften and and see that no matter the age, we can still be taught and learn new things.
I so appreciated this post today!! I am praying the Phil 4:8 verse for my three boys.
Today, I am praying for my son in all aspects of his life. I pray that he finds the path to the love of God. I pray that he be uplifted and that his spirits are raised. I pray that he finishes college and finds a career path in life. I pray that he continues to not drink alcohol. I pray that he baptizes his child. I pray that he finds happiness. I love him and pray for him every day. It’s because of him that my faith has grown exponentionally over the last few years. So, I thank him for that – but not for my gray hairs.
Thank you. I pray for my grandsons and great-grandsons everyday! Sometimes it is hourly. The enemy is everywhere.
I will be praying my two sons, Noah and Gabriel, that they have strong faith in God and a heart full of love for God. I pray that they will do the right things and be strong, and that they will stand up for themselves and stand up for those who may not be able to stand up on their own. I pray for kindness and love and compassion and a desire to follow the Lord.
Thank you very much for these prayers for our sons. In this world, it is hard to raise a godly son to become a godly man. I have been praying over my son that he has a pure heart. That he turns his eyes toward the Lord and away from sinful desires. That he is able to discern right from wrong and follows the Lord. Prayer of protection over the evils of this world. I even pray for his future wife. That she may too be finding Jesus and following His ways.
I pray that my son, Austin, will not let the world change him but that he will change the world. I pray that God will be beside him, below him, above him, behind him, in front of him, around him and through him in all that he says and does and that God will get the glory. I Corinthians 10:31
This is wonderful! As a family growing in faith with two young sons, it is so helpful to have insight from others walking that same path. We pray for our sons every day. Our oldest (5) has asked The Lord into his heart. It was a very emotional time for me. I pray he will never fall from grace and that he be a light unto others. Our youngest (2), we pray will do the same. I am thankful to have a way to connect and learn from other moms of boys!
Thank you so much for this post. Among others, I will be praying Deut 31:6 and Prov 4:11 over my son.
I’m praying for my son who has gotten into drugs, he has a son who Lives with his mother. My son moved away and can’t work in the area because of his drug screen in a local database. I pray for his 4 yr old son who needs a father. I pray also for my oldest son who has been off work due to panic attacks. Its hard for him to face workers when he goes back because he is fearful of humiliation by coworkers. My heart is heavy for all 4 of my sons
I’m a grandmother, but I have grandsons that I pray for. I pray that they will seek The Lord with all their heart. I pray for them to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
As I annoint my son each night while he is sleeping I pray he will have such a strong love for God in his heart that he desires and pursues a relationship with him.
#Help I live with a 4 year old boy! 🙂
I so needed to hear this because my 9-year old son and I butt head quite often, mostly over homework, and even though I know I should not “blow my top” I usually end up doing it anyway. Last night it happened again, he and I were both tired and as usual he “forgot” about some homework assignment that was due the next day (he had it for a week mind you) and I told him he had until 9:00 pm to get it done and whether it was done or not he was going to bed. This lead to a lot of drama, etc. but I kept my cool and it made him more stubborn rather than get it done.
Thank you so much for the scripture, I have printed it out and will start praying for both my sons, ages 5 and 9, tonight.
I am praying that my nearly 5 year old will continue to show his love for Jesus and others to the world. He has witnessed to people from an early age, and he wants to help feed hungry people. I pray that my Conor will be able to grow in his faith and have a deeper relationship with his Savior.
Thank You. Lord for the connection with You while my son is little. I am trusting that Your promise to never leave him is true.
Help all of us who are raising sons You have entrusted to us lean on You to be the mom each of our boys need.
In Jesus’ Name.
AMEN
My son is 24 and still needs prayers. He recently got laid off and I pray for him to have patience and trust in the Lord for him to give him wisdom and to open a door for him for a job. Also to give him courage to step out and possibly look in a new location.
Thank you. Will definitely print this one. My good friend and I have walked and prayed for our 4 teenaged boys over the past couple of years. I have learned to trust God that he walks with them 24/7 and will draw them to him just as he did me- perfectly and in his own time. But my patience is short-I want it now!
I have two “boys” that I pray for. Kenny, my middle child is now almost 25. He got married this summer and let me tell you, I prayed a lot for him. He hasn’t been the kind of kid to get into trouble and make bad choices. However STUBBORN! And did everything the hard way! 🙂 I prayed that when he was ready, God would send him a girl like “Katie,” the girl he worked at summer camp with. She had the qualities that would complement Kenny and is a Jesus Girl. Well, this mother’s prayers were answered. Not only was it a girl “like” Katie……it was Katie! They were married last August and I have never seen him happier or more loving and giving. Of course I still pray for him every day, as I do my other son and daughter. But this was an absolutely beautiful answer to prayer. God is good!
I am praying for my 2 sons,24 and 14.
Every morning I pray for my 17 year old son – Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
Thank you for some specific direction on praying for boys. After two girls, I am needing that guidance. The book Praying for Boys is certainly a book I am interested in
Timothy 4:12 struggling with behavior issue at school and home. His dad and I are divorced and there is a lot of conflict. He also buts heads with his step dad. He is 10.
I pray for my son every day. This book looks so good. Thanks for the post. My son is 12 and going through some difficult challenges as we moved a few months ago. And he thinks I am old and don’t know anything. . .
I am praying that my son who confesses now at the age of 5 will always follow Christ and seek His ways. He is my prayer partner even at such a young age so I also pray that he will continue to bring others before The Lord in trying and joyous times!

I love praying the Scriptures and have had my eye on this book! Would LOVE to win!! I love to pray for the Lord to help my son “be strong in the Lord” for the rest of his days!!
This couldn’t have come at a better time. My son is 7 1/2 and my husband and I are both so frustrated and confused. I thought this would come so much later for a boy but man was I wrong. I have just been praying for guidance in how to handle this (maybe this post was the answer to my prayer) rather than for him so I am going to begin using one of these and I am going to start with I Timothy 1:5. Thank you for this today!
I pray daily for my son to eagerly search for God.
My son is (almost) 10 and I pray for him constantly…that he will be safe and strong in the Lord. I also pray that my husband and i are setting a Godly example for him to follow.
It is too late for me-I have a son who is 41. This son lies about anything and everything to everyone. He has a very charming personality, I believe you can correctly call him a con artist. Wherever he goes and whoever he interacts with he leaves a trail of broken hearts and unpaid debts. He has 3 failed marriages and 2 children who are out of control. My husband and I attempted to help him financially through the last divorce when he came home to live with us because he had been fired from his management position – they figured out what he was all about. He wound up stealing from us, money that my husband and I worked our lives to accumulate, intended for our retirement- where we are now -and we are left in a very bad financial position and my husband is loosing his vision and may not be able to work anymore. While this son lives in the same city that we do, he refuses too communicate with us, has made no attempt to repay us and has now disowned us. Our hearts are broken. I was never a Godly mother. How I wish I had stayed on my knees when this son was young. Now he is just lost and does not have a clue.
Praying for your family, Marilyn. God be with you all. He is all powerful and it’s never too late to call on His name. Say “Help me Jesus!” just like Peter did when the waves were taking him over. Matthew 14:30
I have 3 boys 8, 3 & 8 months. I pray for them all bit its my 8 year old that I struggle with the most. Your 8 year old reminds me of mine. Recently his mental purity was damaged while spending time with his cousin. My heart is broken over it. But it seems to have fuelled the fire that burns between us where there used to be closeness. I need to come more focused on my prayers for him and in finding where we are on the maturity/responsibility scale & how to proceed. I will not give up the fight for my son!
Thank you for writing this. It seems it was for me. I have an 8 year old son who is riddled with anxiety and irrational fears. These fears make him react in violent rage sometimes. I sometimes feel as though I’m fighting against him. Thanks for the reminder that I do not wrestle with flesh and blood, but against powers of darkness. Praise God for the Light!
Last night I found myself giving up on my relationship with my 9 year old who has been relentless and butting heads with all of us in our home. I know he is angry as a result of his fear or perceived lack of control. It saddens me and makes me feel helpless as his mother. I prayed last night for strength and this morning again for the two of us. On my way into work I heard Gus Lloyd ask if we have ever heard for God and if so, how. I am blessed and this morning, believe again God is speaking to me through your email/blog. Thank you so much! I immediately read all the prayers and the. Dropped diwn on my knees and prayed “May my son listen to the way of wisdom and be led in the paths of uprightness (Proverbs 4:11).”
I have 3 sons, all at different stages in their lives. For Nathan, I would lead with Psalm 51:10–renew a right spirit within him. He has Jesus in him, but by what he says, he has been influenced by the world and some thoughts have gone worldly. For James, is would pray Deuteronomy 31:6–be strong and do not fear for God will not forsake you. He is going through an uncertain time and fear is creeping into his heart. For Timothy, I am lead to pray for Proverbs 4:11–listen to wisdom and be led in paths of uprightness. He is our youngest and still a little impetuous and not sure of the path on which to follow. I pray these promises from God for my three sons in Jesus’ name. Amen.
My prayer for my son who is now 15 is that he grow into a Godly man – making the choices that God wants. He is so incredible and a joy to talk to and yes he will argue with a fence post. He seeks deep answers to life and forces me to dig deep into the word to answer them. It is amazing to watch God at work in his life.
I am praying for our son, protection and healing, that Gods face would shine upon him and show him peace and favor and our son would live a life that would glorify God
I pray for my daughter and 5 year old grandson. He is challenging her everyday.
I am a mom to three sons, and I pray that God would daily remind them of Whose they are…they are His…and for my oldest who is running from God, that the Lord would give him a desire to know Him and that he would come to the end of himself – sooner rather than later.
I would love this. I have 3 boys and prayer is an important part of raising these guys!
Today I am praying for my son to keep his heart and mind on Jesus. To look to him for guidance in all that he does and to know that God is there for him in any circumstance. He has just entered middle school and with all the influences and pressures he will face there daily I want him to have a strong foundation to help him throughout these years. Thank you for these prayers. They will definately help me to continue praying for my son daily and I am looking forward to the prayers for daughters as well!
I pray that my son learns that not everyone is a bully, not everyone is against him, and that there are good people out there that love one another. I pray that he learns that there are people that believe him and that this world is not a bad place, it just has some people in it that are going down the wrong path.
I pray over my son, who is 14, morning and night when I wake him up and say goodnight. He has decided to be a youth pastor when he is old enough. I love him so much and am so proud of him and love to witness God move and grow in his life! I love thisverse: May my son walk after You, God, and fear You and keep Your commandments and obey Your voice. May he serve You and hold fast to You (Deuteronomy 13:4).
I am praying for purity for me teenage son.
I am praying for my sons (ages 21 & 23) – in their walks with the Lord and that they may find a Godly spouse. I am so blessed by my Godly husband, and I pray that they may be blessed too.
My 2 sons are 32 & 33 now. I still pray for them everyday. I believe in the power of
prayer! They have been faithful Christians having accepted Christ at a young age,
and I am soooo thankful! When they arrived at their teen years, I had to start
letting go. You reach a point, when that is all you CAN DO is PRAY for them!
I pray for my 2 boys, ages 6 & 7, that they will grow to be warriors for Christ. I also pray 1 Tim 1:5, for a love that comes from a pure heart, a good conscience and a sincere faith.
Thank you Brooke for your scripture prayers. Thank you Lysa for having Brook as a guest on your blog. My boys are grown men now, but the prayers are still appropriate. As a mother, we can never stop praying for our children. They need our prayers for them their whole lives.
Love it so much. going to print put and frame it!
My boys accepted Christ when they were young I knew they truly knew what they were doing now they are teenagers and I pray everyday they don’t forget it’s so hard
I am praying for my two sons, especially in the area of being an example of Christ to others & having hearts that are sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
My 27 year old son is living with me until he gets on his feet after graduate school….your opening statements about your 8 yr. old could easily apply:
“He looks at me with a “heels dug in” kind of glare. I know if I said, “the sky is blue on a sunny day” he would try to prove me wrong.
Sometimes, I don’t feel like we’re on the same team anymore, my son and I, and it breaks my heart.
On days like today, when he’s arguing with everything I say and trying his eight-year-old best to do things his way, it seems I’m fighting against him—like there’s a war going on in my house between me and my son, and a distance between us I want to bridge no matter the cost.”
I am praying for God to open my son’s heart to all the wonderful things God has done for him, all the possibilities that are still to be known, and that he will accept Jesus as the Lord of his life.
Hi Lysa & Brooke. This blog post today couldn’t have had better timing for me to read. My son woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning, and it all started over a bowl of cereal!!! I told him which kinds we had (note they’re they same boxes we’ve had for a few weeks now), and he told me which he wanted. After he got dressed he came in the kitchen and had a meltdown saying those were nasty and they weren’t what he wanted! After our battle of wills over a simple bowl of cereal concluded. We were both mad, and worse yet I felt defeated. My son is 9, and the attitude is creeping in more every day. We argued the entire ride to school and I fumed by myself on my ride into work. After reading this post, it’s given me a new perspective that the battle is not between me & my son. I will be praying that he has a good day in school & I will be praying over this verse: “Like Timothy, may my son be an example to believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity (1 Timothy 4:12).” I have a 6 year old daughter also, so I’m eagerly anticipating the blog post for daughters! 🙂
I’m praying in agreement with my husband that every purpose and plan that God has for our son will be fulfilled and that he will stay very near to the heart of God.
Well my son isn’t 8, he’s 28. My how these versus are timeless regardless of age. He left 18 days ago for Afganistan as commander of a helicopter troupe in the 7-17 Calvary brigade with the 101st airborne division. I’ll add these to my daily prayer for him…
#3 May my son be strong and courageous and not fear or be in dread, for it is You, Lord, our God, who goes with him — even when in harms way and among evil
#5 Like Timothy, may my son be an example to believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity …and to those who need Christ
#7 Lord, be with my son in trouble; rescue him and honor him …as he and his men fly at night among the mountains of Afghanistan and at day in light of the enemy
And I would add an eleventh prayer which is my prayer for him every day he is away…
#11 – For the Lord to be a wall of fire all around (them), and HE will be the glory in their midst.’Zechariah 2:5
At the throne now,
Glenda
I am praying that my 16 and 13 year olds will make wise decisions and grow to be godly men. (And at least one of them will pick a good nursing home for me when I need it! ha)
What a wonderful list of prayers!!! Thank you so much for the article today! I am praying for both of my sons (who are 19 & 23) that they will be men that rely on God in the good times and the tough times and that they will be men of integrity in all they say and do.
What a beautiful post! Thank you for it, Lysa and Brooke!
I have two 11 year old sons, of triplets (with their sister.) I am constantly praying for them and with them, in general ramblings to my God whom I know is always listening. My boys are still on a good path and faith-filled little boys thus far, so it is my daily sincere prayers they never go wayward, and only grow to be stronger, mighty warriors for the Lord. I’ll be using these 10 beautiful prayers now as well, and look forward to the same for my daughters.
I love this list! I can’t really say what I pray for my son because I’m pretty new to all this and my praying is pretty awkward but I am going to use this list and I would love to have this book! I intend to buy it as soon as I can scrap up the money.
I am praying for my 4 and 6 year old strong -willed -boys to use all that strength to do great things for God and not land me in a straight jacket before then.
Thanks so much for the encouragement!
In premarital counseling we were told to pray for our children because if we are not praying for them, then who is. We need to pray for them. 2 daughters and a son later we pray for and with our children.
I am struggling. I have two boys 7 & 9 and a husband who is Bipolar. I need help
Boy oh boy, do I feel like this post was written just for me! The battles sometimes are….outrageous.
I’m not “good” at Scripture prayers, generally speaking, but I thank God for the amazing plan that He has for my son (Jer 29:11), and that He helps us to lead and raise my son in such a way that he will follow hard after God and listen to His will.
Thank you so much for writing this book, Brooke, and for this amazing giveaway ~ I would love to get my hands on a copy!
I am raising my two great nephews. One is 15 and in 9th grade, the other is 11 and in 6th grade. Thank you so much for the prayers that you gave today. I am going to print the prayers and post them on my mirror at home. I am praying number 4 for my 15 year old today.
May my boy walk before You, God, as King David walked, with integrity of heart and uprightness, doing according to all that You have commanded him and keeping Your statutes and rules (1 Kings 9:4).
My prayers is number 10! I am so happy to read this! I’ve been dealing with my 8 year old son and he does try to go against me and it’s frustrating! This set me at ease and I’m not alone!!! Thank you!!!!
Prayers for my son to continue to know Jesus and keep a kind heart.
I always pray that if he’s doing something wrong that he will be caught! Can’t tell you how much I appreciated the post today. I’ve been struggling with my 16 year old manchild.
I’m praying for my 20 year old son. After my husband and I divorced last year, my and his dad have grown apart. My son does not visit or talk to his dad and unfortuneately his dad doesn’t acknowledge him anymore. He is hurt and deeply wounded and feels that his dad has disowned him. I pray for his wounded heart and broken spirit.
I pray for my sons and daughter every day. They are adults now, and need prayers more than ever it seems with the economy and their jobs, health issues, and loss of security with their beloved grandfather passing away. He was the love, kindness, compassion, and wisdom that doesn’t seem to come from many in their world. May God Bless my children and give me guidance in my prayers for them.
Thank you for these prayers for my son! Even though my son is 24 and a college student, all of these prayers apply to him now just as they did when he was little. My prayer for him today is # 9. May my son have love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith (1 Timothy 1:5). I am continually praying for the wife that God has for my son and that God will prepare my son to be a godly husband and father someday.
I have three boys and boy do I relate with Brooke’s post. I am a recovering helicopter mom and I finally found deliverance through praying scriptures like these for my boys. My most favorite is to pray is Psalms 1. It is beautiful and perfectly suited for raising Godly men. Thank you for this beautiful post.
This could not have come at a better time. My testosterone filled, hairy legged boys are 14 and 16. I have printed off the prayers and will start today being more intentional in my prayer life for my sons.
I’m praying for my son’s marriage to be restored and that he become the husband and father that God created him to be.
I pray that he knows who he is in Christ. That he has the strength and stamina to be the man God created him to be. That he accepts himself when it seems no one else does. That God places men in his life that will influence him, teach him, and demonstrate what He expects us to be (beginning with his dad). That God hides him in the secret place as he grows in his destiny.
Almost every day something else comes up that mixes these prayers up a little. I just want him to know that God values him. That he is strong enough to be the man God wants him to be .
Your writings have been such a blessing. As a mother of three boys, my prayer for them is that God guard their heart, their eyes and their mind and that they run every decision they make by the Lord first.
After raising 3 girls, I now have my first grandchild….a boy!!! He’s 8 months old and we are all learning how to raise a boy now. I would love to win this book for my daughter and son-in-law to read for their son….and then to pass to his 2 aunts and his nana and papa to read as well. Raising a boy in today’s times will be alot tougher and there will be many challenges ahead. The 10 Prayers for My Son that was in today’s email from Lysa was what we needed and I have forwarded to my daughter. I plan to post this on my frig as well for my GRANDson! : )
I don’t have sons but I do have a son-in-law and 3 grandsons my prayer for them is to make wise choices and realize just how much Gid loves them.
I pray for my adult sons in their daily struggles in today’s society and that they lean in Jesus Christ.
Also I pray for a future son in law that God will send to my young daughter that he lives the way of Jesus Christ in his actions and words.
I am a mother of 4. Boys and my heart cry is…May my son’s listen to the way of wisdom and be led in the paths of uprightness (Proverbs 4:11).
Man what a great post. I have 2 boys both as different as night and day, but I have the same prayer for each, ” Lord captivate their hearts and minds, be their passionate pursuit, and above all else be real and tangible to them.” I often wonder how a child raised in Christ transitions from my mom’s faith to my faith. I desperately want them to know that Jesus is real and that he is the friend who sticks closer than a brother.
I have 2 boys!! An 8 year old and a 14month old. I loved reading your article this morning on Praying over our boys! As times are changing every day it is becoming a lot harder for our boys in this tuff society.Would love to read this book and pass it along to my friends who of course have young silly boys as well!!
I love this! This is exactly what I needed as I begin to question if I am doing everything to ensure I am setting a good example for my 1 year old son and 8 year old daughter. My daughter has a heart full of love for Jesus and I can only pray that my son does as well. I love prayer 2 that is posted above. I plan to write this in my journal and add it to my prayers daily.
Thank you for these verses. I have three boys 20, 18 and 17. (I also have a 16 year old daughter) All three of my boys are graduated and moved out. I home schooled them straight through graduation. My oldest is a corrections officer, my second works at a welding shop and my youngest works at a auto service station. They are all around a rough bunch of people and the influence on them is heart breaking. These ten verses have given me great encouragement and direction on what and how to pray for my boys. Already I can feel peace from God that He will work in them. Agian thank you!
What an amazing post at the perfect time. I have two teenage sons and am really struggling to find how I fit as a mom in this stage. I pray for them that they will find their foundation and strength in who God says they are and that they will always hear Him calling their names.
May my son listen to the way of wisdom and be led in the paths of uprightness (Proverbs 4:11).
I love this post! My prayer for my kids right now is Ephesians 3:14-20.
I have 2 sons. Praying #3 for them this particular day. Thanks for consolidating this.
I pray that my almost 9 yr old son would have a teachable spirit, that he would open his eyes and ears to instruction, that God’s word would be hidden in his heart, that he would have the attitude of Christ Jesus and that God’s countenance would fall upon my son.
I pray that my son will always have a bold faith that shines for all to see his love for the Lord and he is never shy/ashamed of his walk of faith!! Amen
I am praying for my grandsons – they will grow to be men of God, men of courage, strong in spirit, guided by truth, full of mercy, abounding in love
My son is 8 months old. I want to be a mother who prays over him every day. I love these verses. I would also love to read this book! I am so thankful God chose me to be his mama.
May my son walk before You, God, as King David walked, with integrity of heart and uprightness, doing according to all that You have commanded him and keeping Your statutes and rules
I’m praying that my son will learn to be content, like Apostle Paul, in whatever circumstance he is in.
2. May my son walk after You, God, and fear You and keep Your commandments and obey Your voice. May he serve You and hold fast to You (Deuteronomy 13:4).
I’m praying for my 8 year old son and his future wife. My prayer for him is that he would be the spiritual head of his home and he would lead his home to Christ. I pray that he would be an amazing husband and father. I also pray that he doesn’t break any hearts on the way to finding his wife.
I love #6. I often think one of the hardest things for boys to learn to do is to listen.
Thank you for this! I’m a proud mom to two wonderful boys, who are still young (5 and 1 1/2) and feel like I fail them daily (as I’m sure a lot of moms do). A lot of the time, I struggle with what to pray.
I actually got some things to pray for from a Lysa post a while back.
I pray first for their salvation. I also pray that they would have the courage to stand up for what is right, they would surround themselves with the right kind of friends, make good choices, and to follow the plan God has for their lives.
Thankful for the encouragement you always pass along!
I pray that my 8 yr old grandson will learn to slow down and not come unglued as any disruption from what he feels is right. He comes unglued mentally and physically and especially when he is tired. Help him to adjust to the long day of school and not to take it out on his Mom as she’s tired after a long day at school as well.
I pray that my son would come to know the Lord personally in his heart at an early age. And that he would grow up learning and understanding what that means and that he would hide God’s words in His heart! Forever growing into a deeper relationship with the Lord that is unhindered by my shortcomings. Amen
I pray that my sons are filled with the courage to follow the path God has laid down for them; and if they stumble along the way, that they know in their hearts that God is there to help them up.
Please remove my last name from the comment before. Thanks.
For my son, I pray that he uses his inner strength and his courage to stand up for what is right, in light of circumstances and the life that he has to live at the moment. I pray that he keeps God first and foremost in his heart and in his mind and that he makes decisions after much prayer and thought. I pray that when he needs to, he seeks Godly counsel. And I pray for me, that I can be the example he needs to do all of these things…
I have two grown sons, 51 and 52, who do not know the Lord. I feel this is my fault because I was raised as a Catholic and only know God as a vengeful, punishing God. I was led to the Lord by my daughter and became a Christian and was baptized at age 50 and felt like I had truly come home. But, my sons do not believe and this hurts me deeply. I am 72 years old and pray daily that they would become believers and be baptized by immersion.
thanks for the post about praying for your sons. I have 12 grandsons and your list will be very helpful as “Grammy ” prays for all of them. thank you.
We have always prayed for our 3 children since before they were born. We have one son, the oldest. He is 21 now and the joy of the Lord shines out of him to all who know him. He is starting to look for a wife and we are praying for her life as well. We have asked the Lord to watch over our children’s spouses since they were tiny. We are praying for him to be wise and patient in the wait with ears that hear God’s instruction, purity in heart, honor in his actions and a love for each other that only God can give. We have prayed many things through his life and this is just the next chapter!
For my sons, for them to feel God’s presence and know he is real.
I am praying that my son will be protected from the damage that the enemy wants to inflict as a result of the divorce that his father has imposed upon our family. The Lord has done a tremendous amount of healing in my heart and given me freedom and hope for a new future, but I see my son still struggling. I am concerned about the long term impact, as well as the environment he is exposed to when he is away from me. I am also praying that in being a single mom that I am not neglecting his needs. He is so engrossed in screens…and I am having a difficult time figuring out how to have quality time and bring a sense of responsibility into his life.
I love those prayers for my son. I will be saying those every night now. My son does not attend church with me or go at all. He is 21 and a good young man, but I want him to know Jesus and all that knowing him can provide!
I pray for my son to be strong and courageous and not live in a spirit of fear. He has an infant daughter that is facing may health obstacles. I pray his faith does not waver. I also pray ITimothy 4:12 over him that others may see Jesus through him.
I pray that my boys will walk in the way that honors the Lord.
Praying for my son to be strong in a world that can tear down his self esteem and strength. Praying for us to be strong and close as he grows older and that God will always let him know just how great he is. Praying he will always keep the confidence he has to be HIMSELF!
I pray for their salvation, and that they will have empathy for others! Can’t wait to read this book.
Today and everyday I pray for my son and ask that you please include my son, Chris in your prayers, he is 21 and me and my husband haven’t seen him in over 3 years this past June. No one knows what it’s like not seeing your son, not being able to hear his voice, or being able to give him a hug,or just know if he’s o.k., or help him if he has a bad cold. I have a pain so deep in my heart I don’t think it will every heal. I miss him sooooo much, no one knows how much. He has taken up with his girlfriends family, they are not good people, and we could not make him understand that, they have turned him against us, he won’t even talk to us. We did have a good bit of trouble out of him when he was in his latter teen years, such as lying, getting speeding tickets etc… All of this started when he started seeing his girlfriend. He is my only child, please pray for him and us as a family in a whole. I would love to have a copy of your book, it might help tremendously!!
I am going to plug these verses into my calendar and pray a different one each day! This was so timely for me and I wept as I read it and have been truly touched. I do pray for my son daily but this has taught me to pray for him with God’s Words and i love love love it
I pray the armor of God over my son every morning before he leaves for school. I love the mental picture that it paints of the Lord protecting him from head to toe – and giving him the weapons he needs to fight the spiritual battles he faces every day.
Im a mother of 5 son’s and prayer is what gets me through the days bt my husband working a lot offshore. Their ages are 13, 11, 9, 7, & 4 and ive been praying for boys “Give them a happy heart that blesses you Lord with all that is within them ps103:1 protect and defend them against any impurity of hands or heart ps.24:4 help all their confidence to be in you & dont let them seek safety or satisfaction in anyone prov 14:26
These are awesome! We are in that phase of life, too. Just this morning, he was arguing about why he couldn’t wear 15 rainbow loom bracelets. At once. Several nights ago, he had been bending our bedtime rules, so I reminded he what they were and I told him that the length of story depended on his conduct. Of course he found this to be unfair, so he stomped in to tell Daddy about this injustice. He was hoping Daddy would “cancel” (his true words) Mommy’s concequence. I told him that Mommy and Daddy are on the same team. He can’t put us against each other. To which he started crying, feeling like we were on a team and he was on another team. I told him that we are all on the same team. (Fighting against the evil one.) Sometimes he chooses to leave our team because he doesn’t like how we do things, then Mommy and Daddy have to fight to bring him back to our team. Things have gone much smoother since our talk. The timing on this is great. This is exactly what we are dealing with. I need to pray all of these verses over him to keep us on the same team. Thanks!!
Thank you for this. My mom pinned it, and I’m assuming it was for me (and my sis) to see as she has three grown girls. Praying my 8-year-old lives his life for God, that he would be able to hear when God speaks to him, for godly friends and for his future wife to be building her faith now as she is growing. I will be using the 1-10 prayers above for sure, great examples!
I am the mother of 3 grown daughters, but I love this post and wil pray these over my 8 month old grandson everyday starting TODAY!
Firstly…Thank you so much for this blog. I feel so very blessed God led me here.
I have two boys, and I am a very new Christian. One time when I felt so overwhelmed at how to teach my boys to learn, follow, obey, etc. God when I am still so early in my walk, I prayed about my feelings. God told me, “Teach them to love Me,” and He would be responsible for the rest (I inferred). It was a very freeing feeling…as I find loving Him so easy. I believe I can show them my love for Him and why I love Him, for all the things He has done and continues to do in my life. I’m hoping this will teach them to love him the same. My constant prayer for them (besides for protection) is that they seek Him with all their heart in every situation for all the days of their lives, as I know through experience that, if they do, they will find Him and He, then, will take care of the rest.
God bless you ladies…Thank you for your giving spirits.
For my son I am praying, May my son honor his father and mother… (Ephesians 6:2).
Lately we have been struggling with his disrespect. He’s been dealing with some issues with school and his weight. When my husband and I try to help, he lashes out at us and becomes angry and screams at us. At times I feel like it’s a constant battle in our home.
Oh, I so needed to read this today! We are in the midst of this season, too, and I find myself in tears more days than not. I’ve been praying that he remembers Whose he is and that he knows the truth and the truth will set him free from the damaging lies he believes about himself (he is often telling himself he is stupid, a loser, etc.). Thank you for this list – I cannot wait to read this book!
I am praying all these prayers for my boys especially to be true and honorable. I have 3 boys ranging in age from almost 15 to 9. I struggle with them and this world daily. The world has such a pull and I feel like ny best defense is to pray for them asking God to protect them an help guide them as well as continue to teach and show them the Word of God.
Praying that my 2 teenage sons continue to seek & trust in the LORD with all their hearts, lean in the LORD & not their own understanding, boldly acknowledge Him so that their paths will be straight.
The timing of this is so perfect, thank you for sharing. It’s encouraging to know I’m not alone. I’m praying for my son & I to communicate better.
Thanks so much for this post. Currently one of my prayers for my son is that he would “Grow in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man.” Luke 2:52.
My oldest of 3 boys left last week for college and to play football at a major university. Besides the obvious of safety, friends, provision etc… I am praying that in the world of college athletics he would be strong against temptations and that the position he has been given would be used as a platform for the Lord one day and not a pedestal for himself.
Would love to add this book to my library! I have two sons, 12 and 15 and my prayer for the new year has been that I focus on who they ARE, not who they are not. So many times I feel that I am only dealing the problems they have/the way they, and I, fall short. God has definitely worked on my heart to be more kind, more patient, a better listener and I am excited to continue on that path! Thank you for the inspiration!
I pray regularly that my boys will keep their love for God as they continue to grow and now Deutoronomy 13:4 will be verse I pray for them. Thank you for this!
Thanks for the encouraging prayers. I follow your website, and many times it is just what I need. I am a mother of 5 sons, from age 12-24. We are struggling with two of our sons and they are walking away from the Light. I am constantly reminded from the Lord that I walk by faith and not by sight. They are NOT the enemy, and I am a Momma with powerful weapons at my disposal. The Lord is working mightily in them, even though it doesn’t seem like it.
I love this! I am going to print this off and pray it frequently for my boys (ages 8 and 11). I prayed all the prayers over my boys, but #6. May my son listen to the way of wisdom and be led in the paths of uprightness (Proverbs 4:11) stood out for me the most. I pray for my sons to use wisdom and make right choices, and to choose the path of uprightness. Thank you for this today!
I pray that my boys (5,4, and 1) grow up to be respectful, show more compassion to others, and realized how blessed they are to have the friendship of each other. They love each other so much now and I pray that they always do and support each other. They test my patience at times, the Lord is showing me that I need to show more grace and control in dealing with them at times if I expect them to do the same. Thank you for the chance to win, I love reading from your site!
I’m praying for my sons from Psalm 25 — that God would show them His way, teach them His paths, and that God would guide them in His truth.
Praying Scripture is so powerful! I have more personalized Scripture on my blog…mamahenprays.wordpress.com
I pray for my son everyday. I adopted my grandson and believe it was a God thing. I believe God has a plan for his life and I pray for that everyday.
I am praying for my boys, 8 & 10, that each will become Godly men and that they will always focus on God and His word. May they share God’s love with everyone around them!
I am praying for our prodigal son to return home, or at least return to Jesus. He’s 18 and he knows everything. Praying for God to surround him with people that will constantly push him back to God. Praying for my youngest son, 13, to continue to push into God and be involved in Youth group. Praying for God to continue stoking the fire within his heart. Also praying his big brothers life choices are a lesson for him, but that he would still love him and pray for him. Will be praying these over both of my boys daily. Love this post!
I pray for my boys, 3, 12, 15, that they will grow in CHRIST and not repeat what they have had to endure with a family history of addiction and rage. Every prayer from the devotional above I pray for my boys… I have printed and going to pray for them each day.
My boy is now 23, and needs these prayers more than ever. They may grow into men, but they will always be our boys. I’m holding on with a tether of prayer! and if I could add a prayer to the list, it would be that he is blessed with a woman who will be his best friend, in Christ. Amen!
I am the mother of boys…two sons and two step-sons…and now a Nana to two grandsons! I will continue to pray these scriptural prayers over my adult sons & grandsons and plan to share the devo with my daughter-in-law. I would love for her to have a copy of the book as she is just beginning this journey of “Boy Mom”!
I’m praying for his hunger to learn about God will grow.
how nice to hear that it’s not just my son who disagrees with every word I say! I’m praying the 1st one on the list for him.
Deuteroomy 31:6 I want my son to know his God, how much HE loves him, and the strength he has through HIM!
I am praying for wisdom as he begins dating.
I’m praying for my two boys … over and over and over this morning! We all have a “dislike” for all things dentist related … and they’re headed there this morning for appointments. I want them to be strong, courageous, and brave. I want them to be worry free. I want them to be filled with the calmness that only Jesus can give.
Thank you for this post –
My son is only 1, but I do not think that is too early to begin praying these prayers over him. I’m going to print the list and post it near his changing table as a reminder.
Wow, what perfect timing God has. That never ceases to amaze me. This posting and the list of prayers were exactly what I needed in the exact time that I needed it. My boys are a challenge, each in their own way. Just yesterday I told a friend that I would take the “terrible twos” again over whatever this is at age 13 and 15. My 19 year old has his moments too. I very much appreciate the reminder that we do need to pray for specific things for our sons. I will be printing this post and will use it daily to remind me to pray for my boys in specific ways. Thank you so much! You’ve encouraged at least one mom today!
I have 4 boys…and I pray that they will always listen to the Lord’s voice and not the voice of the world…and that they’ll follow where ever He leads.
My prayer for my teenage sons is that they would have soft open hearts as they wrestle with and develop their own faith and trust in God. I pray that the true character of God would be evident to them and that they would accept his love for them and his grace and mercy. I pray protection from all the outside influences that are working so hard to capture their attention. i pray that the Spirit would influence and prompt them and they would be open to hearing and listening to the truth the spirit speaks inside of them. I pray that integrity and honesty would be their guides and that they would walk in the way of truth.
My son just turned two this past weekend and we are finalizing his adoption sometime in the next month. My constant prayer is for us to raise him up to be a man of integrity, which this world seems to be short of sometimes. I am planning to print this out and put it in my prayer journal. I am going to be specifically praying 1 Kings 9:4 today and all the days to come.
Oh I was so glad to come across this in my IG feed. I have one child, a son, who is 8. I pray over him every night as he lay sleeping. I pray for safety…for his heart, his mind, his eyes, his ears. I pray he is a light for the Lord, and that my husband and I can teach him that the most important thing in his life will be a personal relationship and walk with our Lord and Savior. When he was little(er), it was so easy to protect him. We were all he knew. Now, there are so many outside influences that he is with more hours of the day than we are sometimes! I just hopped over to Amazon and ordered four books. I plan on keeping one for myself and giving the rest to my friends with boys. Thank you so much for sharing this and the giveaway!!
You will not believe the timeliness of this article! Yesterday afternoon was a very difficult one with my boys. At the end of the day, I just found myself angry with the world and especially my boys! I cried out to the Lord to show me how to deal with all the testosterone in my home! This morning I wake up to this in my inbox! Isn’t God good! He loves us so much and hears our hearts’ cry. I am greatly encouraged and reminded that my boys are not my enemies! My prayer for them is that they be led by the Lord. I pray that their hearts will all be turned to the Father and that they do not let go of Him. Thank you again for being His voice to me today!
God bless you all!
I could have written this post..or at least the part about the son arguing with everything you say. I have a 6 year old and a 4 year old. The 6 year old sounds so much like the son described in this post. There are so many days that I feel like a bully because we are constantly arguing. My prayer during this has been simply, “Give me strength, patience, and make me wise…”
Praying the prayer for purity for my precious 14 year gift from God,
Love this. What an encouragement to me as I parent my precious boy. My prayer for him as I fell asleep last night reflecting on our (pretty rough) day was almost word for word #2. I want him to pursue God and have a heart that loves and serves Him.
I pray that my 4 sons would realize at an early age their need of a Savior and choose to follow Him all the days of their lives.
Thank you for this… God is BEYOND good! My son is 11 and has lost his “God-focused heart” and I’m watching him slipping away. He still says all the right things, but it’s just not the same. I am praying that he stay connected to the One who put in all in motion. Thank you Lysa and Brooke for letting God use your lives for His glory!
I pray each day for God to place a hedge of protection around my boys each day (including my third boy – my husband). I pray that this protection is both from physical harm and from emotional harm. I try to explain to my 8 and 10 year olds that this old world is so hard that we must depend on our great God in all that we do and all that we say. I give all praise, honor, and glory to our Almighty One for entrusting in me His special creation. How Great Thou Art!
Oh this couldn’t have come at a better time. As a single mother of one 7 year old boy It seems like all I do lately is argue….and pray. My prayer is for my son to walk with God always. I try to do what I can to lead him and it’s so easy to get discouraged, but I know nothing is to big for God. Thank you for this post, I especially needed it today.
This was EXACTLY what I needed! Thank you for bringing those scriptures to life for me, for my son! He’s 16 now and has committed and re-committed his life to the Lord during his short 16 years. He’s now struggling with his faith, questioning so much but not such a good listener. I’m praying #6 for sure! But also #5 and #8. What a blessing you are for sharing these. Thank you so much!
My son is a seventh grader this year, I am praying #5 with all that I am. God’s developing his quiet leadership and quiet strength through the vessel of basketball, and I know the choices are many and the temptations are real. Thank you for this today!
Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! Thank you Lysa and Brooke!! I so needed this post….well, just like I needed the marriage one and am looking forward to the prayers for daughters one as well. I can’t tell you what Proverbs 31 has done for me as a mom, as a wife, as a child of God! I have 3 daughters (10, 8, 8 – yes twins 😉 and a 17 month old little guy. Although I’ve been praying for them since before they were born, I love seeing those verses and having them written out as specific individual prayers for those precious little souls!! Such a blessing!
I’m praying over my boys (8 & 6) protection over their minds and bodies while they are at school. It gives me peace while they are away from me. 🙂 I pray wisdom and clarity over them.. That even at their young age they can be examples to their friends and peers! I am a blessed mama! Even in the tough and trying times I thank my Lord for giving me the job of raising these two godly men!
So love God’s timing! Was having one of those mornings with my oldest son this morning and was asking God for wisdom in nurturing his sixteen year old heart! Was not feeling like a good mom at all, feeling guilty for feeling frustrated…and in answer to prayer, here was this blog in my email! Thanks for the reminder that our sons have a real enemy! printing the scripture prayers and putting them by my mirror so I see them everyday as a reminder to pray for my two sons each day!
How do I pick from these verses! The best fit for this present moment is Honoring your father & Mother. I am at my wits end at times with my boys. I become Unglued when they are ungrateful, especially when God has blessed us with so many things this past year. I would be blessed to receive this book. I need to focus my prayers for them! Time to get post it notes write these prayers out and stick them on my bathroom wall so I can pray as I get ready for the day!
My “boy” is 45 yrs. old but still needs my prayers, He is a gifted and smart young man but has turned away from his faith. I am going to start praying each day a different one of your list. Especially number 10! God is able……….
I want my son,who is 35, to be saved!!!! He is raising his son, who is 9, and is not in a relationship. I feel like he is facing this cruel world alone, and he is. I am praying for his soul first and foremost and I know then God can work in his life. Please help me pray for DJ & TJ! Thank you!!!!
Please use only my first name (Jo) on my comment published earlier. Thank you
I am praying that my son will go into all the world proclaiming the gospel no matter what the cost
Thank you very much for today’s post. I have two teenage boys (and a 20 year old daughter). I’m trying to be very intentional about praying specific prayers for each of my children. My prayer for my oldest son is for him to have more humility in his life. He is 18 and will be heading to college later this year. I pray for him to be able to deny peer pressure and decide to follow Jesus instead of the world. My prayer for my youngest son (15) is that he keep his gentle and caring heart and decide that giving his all to Jesus is the life for him.
My son, Brandon, is 17 years old and needs a lot of prayer. He was raised to serve God but has fallen away. I am praying for his salvation. He is struggling with hurts in his life, alcohol, and results of poor decisions. He has stopped going to school. He is “aching for independance” and has recently announced to us that he is leaving home and moving 5 hours away with a girl that he met online a few months ago. My heart is aching and I’m heartbroken. I love him so much. My husband (his Dad) and I have done everything we know to do but we need to put him in God’s hands. He belonged to God before he belonged to us. Please pray for Brandon. Thank you.
Every night, my son comes into my room before he goes to bed and we say our evening prayers. He is 18 years old now, but the ritual continues. Besides a couple of well known prayers, we always end with “Our dear Father, help me do what’s right, every day and every night.” Short, simple, sweet.
Wonderful prayers. Since my son was born, I have been praying that the Lord would grow up my son to be Happy in the knowledge of the Lord Himself, Holy in following His commandments, and Healthy enough to carry out the Lord’s plan for his life.
Thank you for providing such a timely post–I must remember the most important battle is for my son’s faith, not all the other things this world says is important.
My 2 boys are still very young – 2 and 4 months – so my prayer for them at this stage of life is simply to know the love of God. Thank you for a great reminder that we are on the same team! We have entered the terrible 2’s and it is often hard to remember that :)!
Thank you for this wonderful insight! I am the mother of a 10 year old that lives to challenge my authority. In fact today is one of those days when I really don’t like him very much, nor do I enjoy being his mother. Don’t get me wrong I would move heaven and earth for this boy, but we are in a challenging stage that I desperately wish would end. I miss the little boy that loved his mom and aimed to please. I will pray these prayers, because I know who he is in his heart.
I really need this right now. I’ve got two boys, 10 and almost 5. I am so afraid for them especially when I have conversations with my 10 year-old about things he’s seen or heard. I know my husband and I can’t do it alone but we can pray and ask for Jesus to protect his heart.
This encouraging message was God’s timing for me, thank you very much. Thank the Lord for His promises and using scripture to pray over our children.
He is in control of all our circumstances, continue to trust Him and blessings to you all.
I have a wonderful nephew and I’ve been praying for him since he was small. My prayer has also been for his future wife, and for his relationship with Jesus, that God would take first place in his young heart. What a wonderful post to remind me to broaden my prayers! Thank you.
Currently I’m praying for continued good health as we anxiously await my son’s arrival (9 more weeks)! And that he comes to know Christ personally at an early age.
As I have no sons of my own, I am praying for my nephews and the sons of my dearest friends, all of whom I consider to be my sons in God’s kingdom.
My son is 3. He is our middle child and has recently been diagnosed with autism. My prayer for him is Luke 2:52 (because what could be better than praying he is like Jesus?). I’m praying that as he grows up, he will have wisdom and that people will like him. Also that The Lord will bestow His favor on him. And I’m also praying for healing from his autism.
Praying that they will always look to Jesus so that one day they will be the head of their households the way God has called them to be…I have 4 boys…constant prayer that they will see Jesus in everything…
I have 2 boys and now 2 grandsons. I pray so much for God to reign in them and them to always be confident that they will never be left alone, God is with them!
I prayed every single one. My son juat turned 18 and he is so lost. I pray he finds the path again but all I can do i pray. Thank you for this, very inspirational
My son is turning 27 this month! He almost got married a couple years ago & is having trouble getting this girl & possibility out of his mind. They have a 3 year old son together so they see each other often for that reason which can’t be changed but his feelings for her Need to Be because she still is wild & being a mother didn’t even change her!! My son is trying to see other girls But still meeting girls just like her since he is Not meeting them in church & I wish he would come back to church & God as well.
While praying for the salvation of my son, his ex wife my sweet daughter-in-law got saved and since she has custody of my 3 little grandsons, they now are talking about Jesus and singing songs from Sunday school around my son. The Bible says “A little child will lead them.” Praise The Lord!!
Wow! This is so timely! My 11 yo son and I battle continuously and I have to consciously step back and re-evaluate. Thank you for this list of prayers!
May my son listen to the way of wisdom and be led in the paths of uprightness (Proverbs 4:11).
We took our 16 year old son to Teen Challenge last week. I am praying for God to do a mighty work in him to overcome substance abuse and low self worth over these next 15 months. Jeremiah 29:11
I have twin boys that just turned 10. We are defnitely at the age and stage of wanting to assert themselves and their ideas, and growing in to the maturity to act responsibly. My prayer for them is 10 fold…that they would learn and uphold the ways of the Lord, and the kindness and sensitivity they have right now would continue through their adolescence and adult lives, to bless their future spouses and families. Thank you for these prayers for our not-so-baby-babies.
For my son, I pray: Create in my son a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within him (Psalm 51:10).
My son hasn’t yet decided to give his life to Jesus, so that is my #1 prayer for him. I also pray that he would be a man after God’s heart, loving and following Jesus passionately from a young age, and wouldn’t stray from the narrow path of walking with God.
I pray that my son will truly know God…to know him in his heart, his mind, his soul and to love and fear him in all things.
I am the mom of 3 boys and I pray continuously for them to make wise decisions and to love Jesus more and more each day.
Thank you so much for sharing this today. I was just spending some quiet time with The Lord and wanted to start a new devotional so I got on your website and was looking around and seen this blog about our sons. Wow! I have a 9 year old son that I have been struggling with how to pray for him and his heart. I will be praying these prayers over him and looking forward to seeing him transformed by the power of prayer!
What a whirlwind of gifts that just keep coming! God is truly constant and faithful. He does offer a way out when the pressure builds. This post is such a relief for me. I feel so guilty at times for the interactions between me and my son who is almost 12. It seems we both clamor so desperately for our outcome to be what we want- for him admittedly it’s to be right- and for me it’s simply to be listened to- that we just get out of control. The cycle is just devastating sometimes and the emotional hangover is worse! I have been looking and looking for a book to help me effectively pray for my son and in turn find some peace for me in the process. This post and the book are an answer for my prayers. Thank you for hearing me God! Thank you for showing me a way out!
More than anything I pray for my kids’ salvation and that they would desire Jesus more than anything else in life! They are only 8 & 5 so I have many, many years of praying ahead of me!
May my son walk before You, God, as King David walked, with integrity of heart and uprightness, doing according to all that You have commanded him and keeping Your statutes and rules (1 Kings 9:4) …..Praying this for my 16 yr old son!
I am praying that my son will continue to grow in his faith and love for God and that he would pursue truth, purity, and holiness in all circumstances (even when he is surrounded by others who claim to follow Christ but only act like it on Sundays when they are in church).
I have 2 boys, 8 and 5. I am homeschooling the 8 year old for the first time this year, while the 5 year old is in preschool. Our house rule is “obey quickly with a good attitude”, and I’m just praying for that rule to be done, and the fruit of the spirit..all of it, but especially self control to get rooted and well watered. I know I am being obedient in homeschooling this year, but it is hard, and there are many battles. Thank you for this list..timely for me.
This was so perfect for me! I am a single mother to an 8-year old boy who has a beautiful, tender heart, BUT who is also very strong-willed! (I can see so much of myself in him, that it honesty scares me sometimes!) What this reading said… is just like us right now! – Sometimes each day feels like a battle…. I am in school right now, and have 2 jobs, and oftentimes when he and I are together – I feel like all we do is argue/disagree with things! As far as praying for him… I know I need to get better with that…. but I do often pray that he will just keep the Lord close to his heart… and that each day, he will remember to rely on the Lord! I WOULD LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!! – I know that I would benefit greatly from this, and have several family members that would too!
Boys, boys, boys. Whew. I have 3 sons, first two are twins. They are young men now but my constant prayer for them has always been that they know Jesus as their Savior and their King! Don’t really know about girls- but boys are awesome!
I pray for my son to know Jesus and to one day be a godly husband and father that he will lead his family to serve Jesus all the days of his life.
What a beautiful prayer list and from God’s Word. Thank you so much! Many a day, I think I’m the worst mom ever but with God’s grace and these prayers over my son, hopefully he won’t remember any of those days!
Beautiful Words!
Every night I simply pray for him to be healthy and sleep well through the night. (There are other daytime prayers that vary). He has severe sleep apnea, and I want him to be safe and with God however possible.
Thank you! I have two boys, and love new ways to pray for them.
And mine is almost 8 years old as well, so I related perfectly to the post! 🙂
Being that my son is so young my number one prayer would be that “May my son walk after You, God, and fear You and keep Your commandments and obey Your voice. May he serve You and hold fast to You (Deuteronomy 13:4)”. This was such an inspiring post……thanks for reminding me that I should turn my worries into prayers and that with God on my side I can be an amazing mother and raise my son to be a man of God.
I just saved this to my homescreen and plan to pray each of the 10, over each of my three boys individually each day. God bless our next generation of Godly men!
Thank you for today’s prayers for boys. Praying #6 for my youngest son “…listen to the way of wisdom and be led in the paths of uprightness”; #5 for my middle son …”may my son be an example to believers in speech, in conduct….” and #3 for my oldest son (a policeman) “…be strong and courageous…for it is you, Lord, our God who goes with him.”
My son has an amazing mind. He is truly blessed. While he is only 10, I pray that he continues to be passionate about using his brain power to help, enlighten, and encourage others. We have made clear to him that his gift is not something to be lorded over those who can’t, but it is his responsibility to use it to teach others and to bring them to greatness as well. My continued prayer is that he never loses sight of that.
I have 2 boys under 2! I am praying they will know and seek God as they grow and praying that my husband & I guide them in that direction!
I would love to have a copy of this. My son is 29 and is in trouble.I’m praying this will help. Thanks Holly
I have two boys. I pray that my 5 year old makes friends in school who are good for him to be around (parent’s raised them to know right from wrong, polite, nice to each other). I pray that my 2 1/2 year old starts communicating more. He doesn’t say many words and gets very frustrated when he can’t tell us what he wants/needs.
This is a great post! I have two sons. I pray that they will both grow to know Jesus. My oldest is autistic and taking him to church is challenging. I pray that one day we will be able to worship together as a family.
I have a 3yr old son that I know has very different needs than my 3 daughters! I need to interact with him differently and for sure pray for him differently! Thank you for these scriptural prayers for my son! I have been looking for a book about raising a son and praying over a son
Thank you Lysa and your friend Brooke for sharing such a beautiful message & prayer for ‘our’ sons!
I pray my son continues to an example of the Lord by showing the light of God that is in his heart (everyday) thus becoming a TRUE TESTAMENT throughout his life to everyone he meets along his journey, here on earth. So that when the day comes that he meets HIS FATHER in heaven he can see just how truly blessed and love he is. There is no doubt, my son SHAWN AVERY is a blessing from God~ and I love him so!
Thank You Brooke! I am putting these verses on 3x5cards and going to pray them day for my 2 precious boys! The enemy attacks us where we are called and I have been praying against fear over my boys for months now. God has a calling on them and I refuse to relent to the enemy.
Thank You!!!
Thank you for this! My son is twelve and he is do disrespectful and speaks to me very rudely. I have felt defeated because everything I’ve tried has failed! Thank you for reminding me it is not him I am fighting against. I pray all Theese things in Jesus Name for my son.
I have two sons, they are 13 and 6. For my boys I am praying that their hearts stay tender and listen to God as He speaks to them But for my 13 year old I am praying for his understanding of some family struggles that are going on and also for hope as we get ready for his kidney transplant.
Thank you so much for this post! This is EXACTLY what I needed to hear today. I’m in a never ending battle with my 12 year old step son whom I love dearly, but sometimes I do want to lock him in his room! I needed to be reminded to pray for him and for our relationship, and not rely on my own understanding.
Right now my son is struggling with issues dealing with his mom so I am really focusing on number 9 – “May my son have love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith (1 Timothy 1:5).” The only love he is receiving right now is from his dad and I, so I really need to work on my own heart for his sake.
Oh my! Thank you so much for this. I know how you feel and even though I don’t know how old the rest of your kids are, let me tell you, just wait until that 8yr old becomes a teenager!! Lord, help! That’s been my cry for a while now. My son just turned 16 and some days I think he’s purposely trying to run me crazy! Thanks for the insight in to young male behavior. Needless to say, he keeps me on my knees, which is right where I need to be. I love that boy of mine and I refuse to let the enemy of his soul win. Not on my watch!!! Pray for me as I’ll pray for you!
My son is 21 and In the airforce. The need for guidance is still there. What a (spiritual) battle they go through. He will always be “my son” no matter the age.
I have 2 boys, ages 5 and 9, and so often, we have the same debating battle you are describing! And it often is so easy to lose site of the fact that they ARE my boys, not an enemy to be “fighting” with! This post is so true!!
Right now, we have been doing the verse of the year prayer together and we have been focusing on Philippians 4:6, but I am going to print all of the prayers you have listed above, as I need daily help in being the mom I want to be, and to fight for my boys hearts! Thank you!
OH what a wonderful book. I would love to read it. I have a precocious 7 year old that took me 13 year before God blessed us with him. I really need this book.
Like Timothy, may my son be an example to believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity (1 Timothy 4:12).
I have two sons. They are four and seven. My seven year old has a very sensitive spirit and a very logical mind. I pray that his logic won’t hurt his faith. He also has ulcerative colitis and doesn’t feel well often. I pray for healing and wisdom in helping him understand that God can work good through even this!
My sons are no longer little anymore. They are now young adults, but I regularly pray for their protection and safety as well as their salvation.
I loved this down to earth reminder and am posting it in my bathroom for the start of each day. We pray on our way to school most days and today’s prayer was for them to be salt and light to those around them, being a Christ-like example in word and action. We are gearing up for changes in both of their lives at nearly 10 and nearly 8 and I am reminded more and more that I need to lean on the Everlasting Arms each and every day!
Thank you for these scriptures. I pray for my four boys daily at the place they each are. Now I can put direct scripture to my prayers. My guys are 12, 13, 15, and 17 so they each have different needs in their lives at this time. Blessings and hugs!
I am the mother of three wonderful, loving, energetic boys. I am transitioning from being a full time nurse to going PRN as the Lied is calling me to be at home more. I am excited and a little scared. My oldest turns 13 this month and so I enter the teenage years. My boys are all boys so there is fighting and arguing amongst each other along with the laughter. My prayer for them at this time is they grow to be men of God so in love and on fire for Jesus. As well as close to one another with a strong brotherly bond. I loved this post and would love the chance to read the book. Thanks!!
I pray most days that my 3 boys will hear the voice of the good Shepard. I know that wherever God is working the enemy is right close trying to mess it all up!
I have three little boys (4 yrs, 2 1/2 yrs, and 1 yr)… I am praying for brave tender hearts and God will draw their little hearts to Him.
Prov. 4:11 I have three sons. All trained to know and love The Lord. May those tiny, tender seedlings of wisdom take root and grow into something that honors Him.
I am praying that my boys will know Jesus and His love for them. That they will rely on Him and Him alone in everything and that they will grow to serve Him and others in His name.
My son is 5 and the most lovable and cuddly child…he is very sweet and I am in love with him so much as his mom….God hand picked him to be in our family, (he was adopted as an infant), he, at times, can be very strong-willed and stubborn , which often gets him into more trouble than he needs to be. My daily prayer for him is that he will ask God to help him make good choices and not to worry what others are doing around him. I want him to learn this at the young age of 5 so that later on in his life he will continue to ask God for guidance in all things.
I am saying all 10 of those prayers for both of my sons, but especially the youngest one. I’ve done all that I can do, and the rest I’ve put in God’s hands.
What a powerful list of prayers. It was amazing to read those prayers and realize I’ve, in so many words, been praying these over my boys. I’m thankful for the power of God’s Word in praying for my boys.
I’m praying for a courageous heart and a desire to lead others…to become a mighty warrior for Christ. I love How Deuteronomy 31:6 leads this prayer for me.
I’m praying my son will be joyful in all circumstances!
This hits me where I am…with an independant eight year old I am trying to teach to be dependent on the Lord. I am praying Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. Acknowledge Him in all your ways and He will make straight your paths” and Ephesians 3:14-19, Philippeans 2:14 & 2 Peter 3:18. I am printing out your list to add to my quiver of war arrows. Thank you!
I so needed this today! I pray for my son to be confident in whose he is and to know without a doubt that Jesus loves him and will never let him go, even when he feels tired, doubtful, hurt and angry and that at the end of every day He can rest in His arms and start new and fresh again each day!
My son is 5, and I pray for him daily. Among other things, I ask the Lord to bless him with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control…with special emphasis on self control. I also pray that he will grow to be a man after God’s own heart, and that my husband and I will have wisdom to guide him on that path.
WOW! This came at just the right time, I have two teenage boys that really try my patience every day. More importantly both of my sisters are struggling with their boys and I would love to share this book with them. One has turned to drugs at 17 and another has left home over a girl and is still in high school. Satan is attacking these young boys and prayers are so very much needed. Neither of them have an active father in their lives, so my sisters are really struggling.
This had to be written just for ME! I know God had a special reason for highlighting this email in my inbox just now…..I definitely needed to read Lysa’s words and read those 10 Scriptures to pray for your son. As a single mom, my prayer right now is for my son to realize and deeply, truly KNOW that he and I are on the same team. I am not his opponenet but rather his biggest supporter. I pray for continual guidance and wisdom in my parenting each day.
Thank you so much for posting this, I really needed this so much for my son. I really want and pray that he will be on the right path that God has for him, I pray that he will open his eyes and finally see that God has never left him.
I am starting with prayer #2, I would love the opportunity to receive a book.
thanks, Jane
My son is 29 & will be turning the big “30” in April. My prayer is for God’s choice of marriage partner for him!.This has been a prayer for a long time.He works in an area where it is all males although he has 3 sisters. Not sure if that is a good thing or not!
Oh boys! I still remember that I cried, when I found out I was having a boy…what on earth would I do with a boy? Yet, I am beyond thankful that God knew better than I, and blessed my husband and I with a son. He is a light, and a joy and his smile can light an entire room. He is also boundless energy which exhausts me, yet pushes me to go a little farther. He is tender and loving, a little gentlemen in progress. He is so special, always willing to help; sometimes asked, sometimes all on his own, and I am so thankful for these prayers just for him! This book would be a delight, thank you!
I pray that my sons (I have 4) will “honor their father and mother”, will “obey their parents in the Lord for this is right”, will “seek the Lord while he may be found”, will love the Lord as he loves them, will at “what time they are afraid, they will trust in Him”, and so the list goes on. I also pray that God will protect them from the wiles of Satan who is our real enemy. I have seen differences in each of them, but my desire is the same for all of them. That they will trust in Jesus, will follow in his footsteps, and will be a shining light in this dark world. Yes, there are days of stress and frustration, but I will never give up on them! I am so thankful that I am privileged and blessed to be their mommy. Thank you so much for sharing these special prayers! God bless! May we all be faithful in our race until the end.
I am praying all of these for my sons. Thank you!
I’m praying that my son will come to God, to know him, to believe him, trust him, and to guide his family to God.
My son is non-believer and I pray with all my heart that God will speak to his heart and soften his heart to come to God for guidance and to be saved.
Thank you
Sue Keefer
I am a single mama of my 3 sweet and precious little warriors! I pray everyday for that God gives me wisdom and guidance to be all they need to be amazing young boys. I pray God protects their eyes and ears and minds.
Thank you for this encouragement. My regular prayer for my 3 boys is for their salvation… That they would know personally of the Savior’s great love for them and they would love him in return all their days.
As the mom of a 7 year old boy who is definitely asserting his independence, yet still is so sweet…I pray for him to develop the strength to trust in God and in himself as he goes through this period in his life.
I have been praying daily for my marriage for the last 4 months and since, God has done some incredible things to grow us! I have been wanting to find another list of ways to pray for our 2 boys as well. I just feel like praying this way is helpful to me to focus on specific things in our lives. Thank you for sharing this list. I’m excited to use it! I pray mostly for our boys to know Jesus and follow him throughout their lives.
I am a mom of 5 boys, 19,17,10,9 and 5. Our 19 year old ran away from home in April because of his feelings for his girlfriend whom we don’t approve of. I am praying that the hold the enemy has on him will be gone and he will run back to God and to our family. I am also going to pray all of the above prayers over all my boys, we are having a hard time trying to explain our oldest son’s actions to the younger ones. Our 17 year old is enlisted with the Army National Guard and will be going to basic training in June after he graduates from high school. So these verses/prayers will be spoken even more so then! Thanks so much for sharing!
Our MOMSnext group was just talking about praying scripture for our kids last night, this speaks to my heart and my relationship with my almost 6 yr old, thank you!
Continuous prayers for my son as he grows. May he always remember that God will never leave him or forsake him!
Oh my word! I LOVE this! I’m always looking for fresh ways to pray for my son. My favorite is this one: May my son have love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith (1 Timothy 1:5). Amen, Father!
My son is 13 and I pray daily that he will be bold and be strong — knowing 24/7 who he is and Who he belongs to.
1. Create in my son a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within him (Psalm 51:10). ~ For my oldest son who has made a spiritual agreement with the forces of darkness concerning both his faith and his sexuality.
9. May my son have love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith (1 Timothy 1:5). ~ For my middle son who has many prejudices – especially against his older brother.
3. May my son be strong and courageous and not fear or be in dread, for it is You, Lord, our God, who goes with him. You will never leave him or forsake him (Deuteronomy 31:6). ~ For my youngest son who struggles in school and worries at home about his brothers.
Thank you for this wonderful resource – I am going to print it out & post it where I can see it every day!!
my 13 year old son and I are really struggling right now in our relationship. I needed to read this on this very day! God put this on my Facebook wall for a reason. I am coping these scripures and will speak them out everyday! I will give God control!
As a mom of four boys 5 years and under my constant prayer for them is that they will grow to be mighty warriors for the Kingdom and they will follow hard after Jesus! (And maybe that I won’t mess them up to bad!) 😉
We have 5 boys, ages 12, 10, 8, 6, and 5. I love this post and all the prayer ideas. I’m praying that my boys will be godly leaders in this ungodly world!
That they will always put God first and their hearts to be guarded from anything impure. That they will be leaders and not followers and always willing to stand up for what they believe in.
I love the list of spiritual prayers for boys. I am a mom of two wonderful and special boys ages 10 and 14 years old. My fourteen year old is in his first year of high school and we see how influential peers can be. My prayer is that he stay true to who he is and how he was brought up and that he never loses sight of the Lord. I plan to put this list in my bible and pray it everyday. The book looks wonderful!
Praying that he would be a light in the dark
Phil. 4:8
My sons are 5, 3, and 11 months.
I am praying Eph 6:2 and Deut 13:4
They are all so wonderful, but my favorite is “May my son walk after You, God, and fear You and keep Your commandments and obey Your voice. May he serve You and hold fast to You (Deuteronomy 13:4)” My son is just 3, but I plan to pray these over him now and forever!
Praying for my 3 boys to love because He first loves us, to know it in their heart.
My son is 11 & has a very low self imagine of himself. He is sweet, kind kid but can be easily angered when he is home. At school he shuts down & doesn’t respond to those who are mean to him. My prayer is for him to be strong & courageous! That he will be what his name means a bold protector….his name is William.
I am a mom of 3 boys 10,6 and 3 and pray daily for them! One prayer is that they always keep God close to their heart and are wise not to look to the left or the right but centered in Gods path!!!
Wow! Such a powerful list of prayers! This is so timely as my son is going away to college this weekend. I’ve been praying that he would seek a relationship with Jesus and be mindful of the plans God has for him. At 19, he doesn’t feel like he “needs” Jesus in his life, but he certainly has a prying mama who will continue to be on her knees during this first flight out of the nest!
My son Michael was born 5 1/2 weeks early – on Christmas Day. Today he is three weeks old. Every day I find myself praying that he will grow strong, and that he will use that strength to love and serve God. Every day we tell him that we love him, and that Jesus loves him, and pray that he will love Jesus.
May my son honor his father and his mother, and May my son have love that issues from a pure heart, and a good conscience and sincere faith.
I pray for my grown son. He is the father of 5 and I pray for him daily. He fights demons and struggles. But Jesus loves him. THAT is what keeps me going 🙂
Deut 13:4
My prayer for my sons is
That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
(Eph 1:17) and that the
fruit of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, self-control) would be so manifested in them that the world sees Christ in their lives no matter where they are.
I have 3 boys- 10, 8, and 4
Praying that they would be warriors for truth and be brave enough to be the men God calls them to be.
My son is a toddler and I pray for him daily that he will walk a life with Christ, I pray for his strength and his faith and his heart..that they are all strong and dedicated to God’s will. I pray also that I am strong enough to be a good role model for him..
Great advice for daughter, too! And I can’t help to make a special prayer for my son’s future wife. Someday she’ll be praying for my grandbabies-to-be…
Phil 4… That The Lord will give my son strength and wisdom and a heart that is learning to be content…
My son is 4 and my prayer for him is that he will respect females and defend them and be polite and chivalrous and that he will always put God first and seek His will.
Does this come a an ebook?
I pray for my sons’ future spouses. I’m going to take the 10 she mentioned and pray two per day. I pray for them to not fall for the trappings of the world.
I’m praying that my sons would have a strong work ethic and have cheerful attitudes.
We have five boys ages 10, 9, 7, 6, and 3. All have their unique challenges but today I am praying that they will learn to honor their parents so that in turn they will honor God. Ty for ur post… I truly needed it at this very moment!
Thank you. This is exactly what I needed today. I will be praying all off these for both of my boys.
I am a proud momma of a fun loving almost three year old!
Jeremiah 29:11
New International Version (NIV)
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” I pray for both of my sons every day that they realize the things the Lord has for them. The plans to protect them and give them hope for future
Proverbs 4:11
I am going to print these out and pray them daily! Currently my prayer is that my 14yo son will take Christ on in baptism. I know it will only come in His time, so I also pray that in this sinful world he will know (and remember in every situation) right from wrong.
Praying that my 10 year old remembers he is a son of God and that he will always remember to show the love his Father to all he comes in to contact with.
This is what I needed TODAY….just this morning we had a lil battle. My son has a wonderful spirit and a true gift of god upon him…he has been told that by many….he is 8yrs old… from the time he could walk and talk he would carry his bible and pretend to preach as a toddler…he loves to try and play drums and guitar and I’m trying to nurture all this as we go. I pray for him to always have this sweet spirit and always follow God and lead others to Christ. I pray that as he is growing God is molding his mate now for his future that they will work as missionaries and be that father and godly leader of his house hold. This post was very uplifting and encouraging to me and I will be praying these prayers for my son. Thank you!!
May my son listen to the way of wisdom and be led in the paths of uprightness (Proverbs 4:11).
I have started taking 30 minutes out of my day to pray specifically for my kids and they usually end up focused on my 16 year old, who seems to disagree with and fight everything I say. Mostly I’ve been praying that I would have more and more Jesus showing through me so that I can respond to him correctly. But for him, specifically, I pray that he would be secure in Christ and out of that security walk in integrity and honesty and move forward with initiative and responsibility. That he would make wise decisions, that he would have a teachable and servant heart, and finally that he would trust God regarding the authorities in his life that he constantly fights submission to.
I’m not a mom yet but in 8 weeks we’ll be adopting our son! I pray that he will grow up to become a man of God who walks with Jesus for his whole life.
I already bought the book, but I’m hoping to win one to give to a boymom friend! My boys are 7 (twins) and 1. Psalm 133:1 is my prayer for them all!
Praying for salvation for one son and a closer walk for the other.
My son is 13. He is wading through a sea of confusion right now due to being in the middle of a custody battle. No matter the outcome, I am praying Proverbs 4:11 over him that he would seek & hear & follow God’s wisdom & walk a path of righteousness.
Praying Phil. 4:8 over my 6 year old son. Thank you for this post! As a mom of 3 boys, this was so encouraging!!
There has been a time with my son my heart was so broken,i could only imagine how Marys heart broke to see her son beaten and hung on the cross.my prayer for my son is for Good to send Godly friends into his life.and give him wisdom and boldness to follow the Lord when others are not.
Praying that my son falls deeply in love with The Lord and goes where He leads him no matter the cost.
May my son be strong and courageous and not fear or be in dread, for it is You, Lord, our God, who goes with him. You will never leave him or forsake him (Deuteronomy 31:6).
My son is 14 and dealing with some Growing issues , Just praying that HE knows that GOD is Always with Him..
I pray for my son in the Air Force. For his safety and for God to finish the work he has begun in him. For him to be the spiritual leader of his home. I pray for my 2 grandsons 18 and 3 that God will keep them in His care until they turn their lives over to Him. I pray for Godly people to surround this family. I pray for each of my grandson’s future spouse and for God to be the head of their homes one day. I also pray for my lovely daughter-in-love.
I already bought the book, but I am hoping to win one to share with a fellow boymom. I have 3 boys: 7 year old twins and a 1 year old. My prayer for them is Psalm 133:1.
I have two boys. One is 19 and in college. My prayer for him right now is his grades. He is in Engineering School and might lose his scholarship. My younger on is going to be 8. He is adopted from Ethiopia. I pray that I might help him fall in love with Jesus!
I’m praying that my son will grow up to know, love & serve God.
I pray for my sons to listen to wisdom and to the voice of the holy spirit so they will make wise choices
I love this list of prayers. My son is just barely 2 years old and he is very strong willed. I will be praying these and so many prayers over him. Thank you for this blessing.
I am going thru a difficult battle with my 17 year old..
My boys are 5 & 8. My prayers for my oldest right now is for a joyful heart and a spirit of peace. He has a lot of frustration and sometimes anger and we are having a difficult time helping him with that. For both of them my daily prayer is to be the hands and feet of Jesus, to have the heart of a servant, to have a deep desire to seek and love the Lord and to act on that desire. My youngest has been asking about baptism a lot recently so we are also praying for that.
I am a mom of 4 boys…(soon to be) 12, 13, 16 & 20…three youngest living @ home and the oldest living in the world/for the world. Also I have a 19-month old grandson.
After reading this I feel like saying “FINALLY! Someone shares the same experience as I do with my boys.” And then I continue to read about what to do…thank you Lord for blessing Brooke with insight to share with others fighting the same battle!!!! Thank you Lord for blessing her with the supernatural wisdom to equip other Mommas!
My prayers are all of the above! Now I have the perfect scripture to empower future prayers.
God bless you & yours,
Ann
My son is almost 3 and I am praying that he will honor his father and mother and that we will be good aExamples for him to follow as we follow Christ.
I have a 2 year old son. My prayer for him is to continue to ask and believe in God. He told me the other day that I could leave him at the skating ring because God would take care if him.
I prayed over my son for his growing pains to go away and for him to fall asleep last night. On my knees, by his bed, in the darkness of the early morning. It worked of course.
I have a 2 year old son. My prayer for him is to continue to ask and believe in God. He told me the other day that I could leave him at the skating ring because God would take care of him.
Proverbs 4:11. I am struggling a lot with my eight-year-old, as well. It seems to be a very common age for it. I pray that he will stay on the right path.
I am praying that my 2 sons (ages 8 & 9) will come to know Jesus as their Savior and follow Him the rest of their lives. I am also praying that if they marry, they will find godly wives who want to serve the Lord alongside them. Each season has its own challenges and in this season of their lives, I pray specifically that they will learn what it means to be a friend. I pray that they will seek out the weak and lonely and learn to like people for who God has made them to be.
I have two boys who are 4 and 6 … Today I will be praying for my sons to listen to the way of wisdom and be led in the paths of uprightness … Wonderful article!!
That he have a heart for God
I am loving this list and the entire article!! My boys are 9 & 11. I really needed to read this right now…God has perfect timing. I am focusing on Prayer 3 & Prayer 10 for my boys. Would love to win the book!!!
My prayer for my 11 year old son is that he be a God fearing man of God.
I have two sons and am praying for their hearts and minds. I’m also praying for their friends and future wives. Being a mom of sons has so many joys but also so many challenges. I know I will daily have to be on my knees in prayer for them!!
My prayer for my son who is about to be 15yrs old is prayer #10 because our thoughts are something the enemy tries to use against us in any little crack. 10. May my son think on whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is commendable; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, may he think about these things (Philippians 4:8).
I am praying the promise from Jeremiah 29 for my son. That God has a plan for his life and a purpose, even though I can’t see it right now.
Currently praying for my son to develop a passion for things that uplift and encourage others. As a two year old, he tends to test the boundries. I know this is something he will grow out of as we lead and direct him, but i pray daily that God will show me how to best cultivate and raise my son to be an encouragment and joy to all those he comes in contact with!
Praying that my son will honor his father and mother. We are in the midst of the “terrific twos!” 🙂
My son is 12 and I pray for discernment, that he will know the difference between God’s voice and the voice of Satan. This is such a hard age for boys and in a time such as we are in now, they are growing up so fast.
I have a 12 year old son that is struggling immensely, with everything right now. He has ADHD and impulsive behavior, no friends, and now is struggling academically in school. He has no support system at school and in fact his main teacher appears to hate him. He’s a good kid with a huge, sensitive heart. I pray for peace and understanding and comfort during these dark times. I pray for light at the end of the tunnel because I know this young man has a big future ahead of him.
I have 2 boys, 8 & 13. I certainly can use some words of wisdom to help in those daily battles to be a person of peace and understanding during our daily battles and struggles. They each see the world differently and I would like to be an example of grace, so they can learn to show that to each other and those around. Thank you
I have 3 boys. I will be adding this to a list I already have. Thank you for sharing! Will be passing this on to friends in need!
I have 4 boys that I love with my whole heart and they are part of who I am today! Never did I know just how much boys steal their moms heart away. I would love to have a copy of this book, always always pray for my boys! My heart and soul is with them!
Thank you
I pray for insight to my four year olds heart– to know the words he needs to hear and the words I need to say.
Philippians 1:9
9And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, 11filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.
Praying my son (4 next week) will always put God first in every decision of his life. Friends, Spouse, career…. And that I will be a godly mother and example for him. He is an answer to a 12 year prayer, I don’t want to fail The Lord in his willingness to lend me a child.
My sons are now 17 and 16. There are many times when I feel that we aren’t on the same team anymore. They are almost grown men. Within a year, my oldest will be preparing to leave our home and go to college on his own. I have many prayers in my heart for them. Today I pray that they listen to the way of wisdom and walk in paths of rightousness. Thank you for a wonderful article. Enjoy 8…because soon it will be 18.
After 5 girls I need help to know how to pray for my youngest, my son!
I am praying Deut 13:4 for both our boys.
My son Luke is my miracle baby. When I thought there never would be a child for me to be a mom, God gave me Luke. I pray that I am a Godly mother that Luke grows to have a heart for the lost. I pray his compassion overflows for those in need. I pray his character will always set him free of any evil. But most of all, I pray his heart is so filled with the Holy Spirit, that he not only knows he is my miracle, but that he is a miracle on Earth to be God’s hand and feet.
I love #3! I always pray that he will be confident in himself. I know I struggle with this daily and hope that he is blessed to feel the confidence with in him to be a strong person!
My prayers for my son are that he continue to grow in wisdom, stature and favor with God and those around him. I would love a copy of this book to learn how to pray for my son who is 5. As he is beginning school I’m seeing even more the need for prayer in his life snd I know that is part of raising him and his sister but I definitely need help in guidance in this area and would love to get s copy of this book.
Amen!!
Proverbs 3:5-6
These are some powerful scriptures ! I’ll be praying all of them over my 18yr old prodigal son whose lost in the world among his friends. A world that’ll destroy and poison his youth. Lord hear my prayers!!!
I have just become a single mom to my 10 month old son. I am praying that God gives me the knowledge on how to raise a son for him.
I too am a mother of four sons. These are all my perfect prayers in one place! I prayed extra on #2 for a son on his way to move to the Big City right this minute! After many struggles he is moving in the right direction, praise God. He has been with me the whole time and provided a way of restoration for this son. Just prayed #7 for the baby son who called the morning from college and he is dealing, right now, with a bad decision he made! I would love the book especially for my oldest son and his wife for my 11 month old son!
My son Jackson just turned 3 last month. I don’t pray for him as much as I want to. I don’t pray about anything as much as I really want. But when I do, I commonly ask that he would grow up to love and serve the Lord, for protection, for guidance, even for his future wife (no pressure at 3!). A few nights ago, I knelt down beside the couch where he had fallen asleep watching Scooby Doo. I cleared the hair from his eyes and kept my hand on his head, heart wrenched and open before God, crying out for Him to make me the mother that with His help I can be; for patience and courage and love and wisdom–the same for his father. Thanks for your blog on specific scriptures to pray over him. I’m learning how powerful that can be.
As a mom with boys that are starting out in the world of dating I have been praying #5 over my boys for some time now just in different words. I pray that people around them will see the love of God by how my sons hold themselves. I have also been praying for my boys to stay strong in their decision to stay pure for their future wives. The world wants to tell our teens that “casual sex” is normal and ok for teens and young adults to partake in. This is such a lie from the enemy and as mothers we can not pray enough for our boys to stay pure until the intended one that God has hand picked for them in marriage.
My son is almost 4. It is our prayer that he, mommy, and daddy have good manners. As a mother of a toddler boy I feel that some days I get it right, and some days I fail. I want Trevor to know that he is loved by his family and Jesus. His favorite story in his toddler bible is about Moses and the golden calf. It is my prayer that I can teach him to have love and compassion For others and I am blessed to help sow those seeds.
Philippians 4:8
As the mother of 5 boys, I have realized that each one is different and each has his own needs. I pray for each of my sons individually, that they grow into fine young men of God.
I pray Deut 31:6 for my boys.
My son is 19 and a freshman in college. I pray everday for him. He is an amazing young Christian man but I know what the world is like. #5 really struck a chord with me. May my son be an example to believers in speech ib conduct in love in faith and in purity
Praying for both of my boys to feel extremely loved, adored and confident in Christs love for them!
I have a 2 1/2 year old son and a 5 month old son. I pray every day that they will come to know Jesus and that they will be on fire for Him.
My son is 3 months, I pray for his salvation and future spouse. I am now going to begin paying these 10 prayers over him!
I pray for my children daily that God reveals his will to them early on. That his uses them in a mighty way. I also beg God to let them Marry the rt person bc what a difference that will make ….:). Would love Gods favor with a copy of your book too. In his Grace:)
My son just married this past year so my prayer has been for their marriage & finances & blending families.
That my son would turn his heart back to God. I wish he was the age where I could send him to his room but he isn’t anymore, he is an adult struggling with depression and many problems that, if he would chose to serve God, he would have Him going before him.
Im a mother of a 17 yr old boy & 4 ur old girl. My son & I are always butting heads. Feeling weary. Thank you for the 10 prayers. God bless
I have three sons – 10, 8, and 3. I am praying that they honor their mom and dad and honor God and that they will always know that God is there for them.
I guess Deut. 13:4 says it all. My 14 yr old who loves me so much until I say no. Then the Devil seems to come into our home and take my wonderful young man for a while. He always comes back, however, I need the Lord to envelope him each and every day. For my son to see God in each and every moment. (me too!)
Thanks for this awesome post.
My son Max is 5 days old today. I am committing to praying for him daily, to believe in & rely on God ad he grows older!
I have twins who are 17 and have backed away from their faith, so my daily prayer is for God to draw them back to Him with repentant hearts that will seek to serve Him the rest of their days.
#5 for sure. I have 3 sons so I’d love a copy of the book.
I needed this today. My son is 5. Ezekiel 36:26. I qill clean out the stones and give you a new heart….
They are all so good. My son is almost 3 and very strong willed, affectionate and spirited. I am praying for wisdom to use these for good.
DS is 3 and we are constantly praying he can learn to honor your mother & father, and that we can be good examples of God’s love & forgivness and teach him that with wisdom.
I have 3 sons. Amongst my daily prayers I pray the truth that, No weapon formed against them will prosper. Isaiah 54 17. And Psalms 17 8 Protect me as the pupil of Your eye; hide me in the shadow of Your wings.
Hi Brooke and Lysa,
My baby boy is not quite 20 months, and my prayer, as he’s finding his lil’ Irish temper, is all of the above!!! My children (I have a nearly 7 year old girl) are blessings and I pray with all my heart that they grow up into the Lord and make this world a better place on their way to Heaven. May we all! Thank you for what you do.
My son is 4 right now.I pray to teach him about Jesus, & that he may grow to know him in a personal way. I pray for his life & well being, & that he will have friends to encourage him in his walk with God as he gets older. I pray he will have a heart for God, a heart for loving people, & helping others. I pray as he’s little these teachings will be planted in him, & that he will always know the truth!
I have been praying for my son to find the right friends in his first year of Middle School. For him not to be influenced by others and to stand for his beliefs. And, not only stand for his beliefs but also the beliefs of others. In standing for others that he will use his words and knowledge to influence others. I pray daily for this and that during these trying years that he will not become jaded or negative about life and give up. I have already had God answer one of these prayers by placing good, well-mannered, christian boys in his path. Thank you for this blog as I felt I was the only Mother feeling this was about my son! God Bless!
Mainly Phil. 4:8, my son is almost 14 & really struggling with all the changes in his body.
My first child (a boy) will be born on or around 2/16. Right now, I am praying that he will be safe and protected, and that his Dad and I will be good parents.
I pray God make him very uncomfortable with sin.
My son is 20 and in his second year of college. I pray that he stays true to the teachings of the bible, he will continue to grow in his faith and he will continue to use the gift of his singing to honor God.
1 Timothy 1:5 may he have love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and a sincere faith. I would really love to have that book for my grandson due Jan. 27, 2014. 🙂
I have a 17 year old son that holds the main key to my heart. He is at the age that I as his mom irritates him with every word. I pray daily that God will show him that I am not his enemy but that I am trying to guide him in life’s journey.
I meet a new obsticale daily and who great frustration. I feel that I am the only mom that deals with such “disrespect” but he is so polite reasonable responsible strong willed hard working and helpful with everyone else.
I know that many say this is normal but yet it still tears a mothers heart apart
I have a 5 year old son. I pray that honors his mother and father, to be courageous and not fearful as he has numerous nightmares and to know and have a revelation of who he is in Christ.
This books sounds great!!!
I am praying for wisdom for my son. Wisdom to make the right life choices as he approaches adulthood. I am praying that he follow after God and seek the Lord with all of his heart. He wants to join the Marines and he will need the Lord’s angels surrounding him day and night. I pray for his salvation.
Praying that God would fan into flame the gift of God that is within them for my two boys, ages 9 and 5. Praying the same thing for my daughters ages 12 and 21 months.
I pray that my 15-year-old son will hear that still, small voice of the Holy Spirit through all the noise of technology surrounding him.
So important!! I don’t have kids yet but I will hopefully remember this when I do!!

I pray daily for my 9 year old son who has had his share of difficulties at a young age. First we were told he has sensory processing disorder and now we are getting ready to test for Asperger’s. He lost his dad in November 2012 due to a motorcycle accident. He has a twin sister and they both are saved and love the Lord. I thank God for that. His dad had a lot of issues before he died and when I had to tell him he said, “Mama, daddy is finally with Jesus and healed!” Just when we think they aren’t getting it they do. I just know I do the best I can every day for the both of them and I do home school them. With God’s help we have made it through some dark valleys!
May my son be strong and courageous and not fear or be in dread, for it is You, Lord, our God, who goes with him. You will never leave him or forsake him. My son is 13 & really struggles in middle school with depression & anxiety. I pray that fear be lifted & that he can shine like the young man God sees.
I have two sons and two stepsons, aged 16 to 27. My oldest stepson is not a believer, my second stepson is a seeker. My teenagers thankfully have accepted Jesus as their savior but I pray that all of them will respond to the call of the Holy Spirit and serve the Lord, not relying on their own might or wisdom, but yielding themselves wholly to His will for their lives.
I have been blessed with three boys (and a little girl) whom I love dearly. There are days, as a mom, I feel like pulling my hair out with this age (middle school is quickly approaching) and the situations that arise. Instilling them as a child of God is difficult on some days. But then God reminds me to find joy and give thanks when these things happen. That there is always a lesson to be learned in growing. No matter how old you are. Leading them by example and diligently praying over them is part of what being a mom is all about. Its about loving them thru that extra mile.
Thanks for sharing your story in knowing we’re not alone in this 🙂
Praying my two boys will put their faith and trust in Jesus. To be bold, faithful and courageous.
Today, I am praying #3: May my son be strong and courageous and not fear or be in dread, for it is You, Lord, our God, who goes with him. You will never leave him or forsake him (Deuteronomy 31:6). My son often battles with fear of the unknown, unwilling to take on new challenges, but always loving it once he does!
I am a mom of 6 boys and it’s always my prayer that my boys would grow deeper in love with Jesus and live their lives serving Him!
I try to pray daily for my 2 sons and love the prayer from prayingforboys.com based on Jeremiah 20:11, may those who persecute our sons stumble, and my our sons not be overcome. Would love her book to further deepen my prayers for them! Thx for posting these prayers too!! They are very helpful!
A bold heart for The Lord and a gentle and kind spirit.
Wonderful and timeless article! Our only son is 21 and a USMarine! I still pray for him daily! He became a follower of Christmas at a very early age but prayer will keep him going strong to finish the race. Thanks for the Scriptures to pray. Blessings!♥
I am a sahm mama of 4 lil princes under the age of 9… a 9.5year old, 7.5year old, 5 year old and 2.5 year old… Every day I pray that God will create in them a heart for him… and that he knows the plans he has for them.. plans for good and a future! And thank you for the opportunity to win a book catered to our lil boys… I would love to win! 🙂 This Canadian mama has a lot of fighting to do… may it be for God’s will and not mine!! Hugs xxx Canadian mama of 4 lil princes
I have a biological son and a bonus son that I pray for with diligence. Both live with us full time and we do not have storybook partnerships with their other parents. We make do and keep the kid best interest at the forefront, even if no one else does. I pray for them that they honor God in their relationship with the helpmeet that He has for them so they are never in the adult end of this situation. It’s hard to send them out knowing that their hearts aren’t guarded against the world when they aren’t with us. And I never want them to suffer the heartache of not being able to be the father that God designs them to be. It is hard to watch your child hurt because of decisions that you made and I pray that they honor God differently than we did so they aren’t in our position.
My prayer for my 3 boys today us that I may be the mom they need at this moment. I pray they will turn to me when they need to and walk on their own path with The Lord when they need to.
my sons are 19 and 22. I ask God for every single prayer available. my oldest is suffering from a mental illness he refuses to get treatment for and he might spend his life in prison instead of treatment. he has been trying to place God in his life but the mind takes over.
my youngest has health issues and is struggling against satan’s words. he is on the verge of giving his life to God. So anything and everything works for us.
Praying for his decision-making ability and that He will allow God to guide Hus path. These teen years ahead are scary but I will trust God to help me parent and prepare Him for His unique calling in life.
1 Kings 2:2,3
“Be strong, and show yourself a man, and keep the charge of the Lord your God, walking in his ways and keeping his statutes, his commandments, his rules, and his testimonies”
I am praying Phillipians 4:8 over my 2 boys. They are 5 & 7. School is so rough but they are trying to make good choices. I am proud of them. I know it will get increasingly harder as the years go on.
My little man is 5. I pray that he will have a heart after God. That I will be the mother God has for him, that he will grow is wisdom and truth. I pray for his protection in every area, physical, mental emotional and spiritual. And for his future wife and her family.
When I read that I needed to leave a comment about what prayer I say for my son, my heart sank. I know that more times than not, I don’t choose to pray for my son. I home school. I let the frustrations with him from the day exhaust me and put a wall between me and my son instead of choosing to take it all to our Heavenly Father. I too often see my son as the enemy and let my heart harden against him instead of letting God change MY heart so I see my son as God sees him and therefore lift my son up in prayer. Thank you for this reminder that my son is NOT the enemy and for the encouragement to pray for my son.
I will be incorporating all those prayer when praying for our son… I pray for him daily that God had made him a mighty warrior of God and that he walks out his faith with boldness.
#5 & a pure heart.
Thank you for a wonderful post! I pray that my son will always put God first in his life.
I’m praying that my two young sons search for Jesus and have hearts of service for others.
I pray that they know Jesus hear his voice and that God always protects their hearts and minds
I pray each day for my 3 boys’ hearts and minds that they will be protected and stay pure!
My son just turned 18 and is the midst of college choices. I pray that he can hear God’s voice guiding him in the right path about choosing a school and continuing his football career. I pray that he remembers the foundation that his father and I have tried to lay in regard to personal choices along the way. As hard as life has been at times as he has grown, I think that letting go and knowing when to interject and when to step back is the most difficult part of parenting I have experienced.
I have two sons and I pray daily that they will come to know Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. I also pray for them to learn to hear the Holy Spirit speaking to their hearts so they can have wisdom to make good choices when they are away from me! Thanks for wiring this book! I can’t wait to get a copy!!
All of the above… And teaching his son to be honorable . Phil 4:8
I am the proud mother of three sons – no daughters. My oldest 27 has a traumatic brain injury – he was hit by a minivan while riding his bike at 15. Wow – did life change – he so needs Prayers – all of them especially for peace, exceptance and guidance. My middle son 21 – needs prayers for guidance in his decisions and of course to keep evil away – I also pray for connection as our relationship sometimes feels disconnected. My youngest son 18 – I pray to keep him safe ( as well as the other two) to keep him close to God as he is , to protect him from evil and keep the pureness and compassion for people he possesses just as it is – guidance and his love that is warm as he makes our family better by his example and sharing his love . Thank you Jesus for loaning me my sons – I pray for me to continue to be the best Mom I can and help me forgive myself when I am not thee Mom of the year. May God watch over my three sons. Amen
I pray for God to protect my children’s purity. For their eyes and ears to see and hear purely and for their minds to be pure.
I pray daily for my sons (26 and 20). I pray that they make intelligent choices and thoughtful decisions in their lives, that they live a Godly life and will continue to pursue God, and that they will treat all of the young women that enter their lives with respect.
But in addition, I am a childcare provider with six little boys in my care 8-10 hours a day, five days a week. My prayers for them seem to be never-ending in what they need. I watch many of the families deal with divorce and other family issues and see how it affects these little guys. There are times, when I think, coming to daycare is the only “normal” part of their lives. Please keep these little guys in your prayers.
Like it said above, I often feel like I’m battling my, 11 y.o., son. Thank you for the reminder, that it’s not him I’m battling. Thank you, too, for the reminder (and handy list) that God’s Word gives me the tools to fight the real battle!
I pray continued blessings for you as you continue to minister!
I pray that my little boy will have a heart that yearns for the Lord. That he will have a relationship with Him from an early age and grow in wisdom, gentleness, and love.
I am praying for my 5 year old that he continue to grow loving the Lord. That his anxiety eases and he trust that God is with him always (something his mama is always working on too!) And that I continue to have patience with him as he figures out how to navigate this world without me but always with God.
THANK YOU for this beautiful and timely post! God bless you and your family!
I am praying dor both of my sons that they come to discern Gods voice for themselves in a world that wants to be the loudest voice. I pray that my sons learn to understand the value of hard work and trying their best. I am praying that their independent spirits will transfer to the things that need that spirit the most!!
I have 2 adopted 19month old boys. My prayer for them both is that they will love Christ and be an example for him even when it’s not popular. I pray that they will grow up with a healthy prayer life and stay in constant conversation with The Lord.
I pray for both of my boys to have a heart for The Lord . My oldest 22 is an antheist and has attempted suicide and my youngest is 11 and has severe ADHD with severe oppositional
Defiant disorder since the age of 2! Every day I have a battle and without my faith and trust in The Lord I could not do this .
I have one son and five son-in-laws. I pray for each of them everyday. It has taken a long time for me not to “fret but let” God work in their lives.
Thanks for your list….may all of us as mom’s truly recognize the power of God to work in and for our sons when we stand in the gap for them in prayer.
Today is my Timothy’s 14th Birthday. i am praying prayer 2 and 5 over him. He lives with dad and is burdened with a very unhealthy chain of loyalty that is in his dad’s family line. My heart breaks as I see my boy struggle between who to love…mom or dad. That should NEVER be a choice a child makes. So I pray, I give freedom, and i let him know how much I love him and that I am here for him no matter what.
I pray for my 11yr old. He has a natural heart of gold but struggles with a stubborn side. I pray he remains close to God. I pray he stands with honor through his speech and actions.
I’m praying for health for my 11 month old son as he’s sick at the moment ! And that he would be bold and seek God in a culture that doesn’t always honor that. This would be awesome as his name is Josiah.
I have two boys! I am praying for strong godly men.
i just had my first baby after trying for over 6years with no luck. i finally was blessed with my baby boy january of 2013, it happened naturally with no help of infertility doctors or anything. God just answered my prayer. Im so thankful for my miracle baby and these prayers really hit home for me. Id love a free copy of the book. my prayers are numbers 1,3, and 9! ♡
Thank you for this rsource
I am praying for wisdom and motivation to work hard for my son. He is a 7th grader and has been struggling with school academically.
Praying for my 9 y/o son…to have a clean heart created only by God and for him to keep God’s commandments. These are difficult days we are raising up our kids in and they are definitely fighting and will fight against more than flesh and blood…we cannot ever quit praying for them…
I pray The Lord will cast night terrors from my youngest’s life and that He will be by my oldest’s side as he boldly proclaims his belief of God at school.
Lysa- I have 2 precious boys. I pray for these boys to just have a heart for The Lord. My 13 year old and I butt heads daily. I could use all the help I can get and would love this book.
I am praying for my 13-year-old son to love the Lord with all his heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love HIs Word–desiring it more than his necessary food. Praying that he will be tender toward the things of God and that God will guard his heart and mind. Praying he will be, like David, a “man after God’s own heart.” Praying for that strong will to be rightly directed!
Thank you so much for this! What powerful prayers over these future men of God! I’ll be praying all of them over Jake but the one that caught my eye was, “May my son walk before You, God, as King David walked, with integrity of heart and uprightness, doing according to all that You have commanded him and keeping Your statutes and rules.” AMEN!!
Praying for my son to have a clear understanding of the ways of a Godly Man. Refusing to accept the temptations of the Devil and all of the bad influences that make drugs and alcohol glamorous to a teenage boy. Making the decision to accept Christ as his savior and getting saved. Let him learn from those who have made bad mistakes in there life and not wanting to have anything to do with drugs that do not make anyone happy and only bring bad things and experiences into those that use them lives. Praying for him to learn to set and achieve goals by prayer and accomplishing milestones along the way so he can look back one day as to where he was and to where he is. Pray that he will choose a Godly woman to marry and raise children. For him to teach his children and grandchildren to live and walk on a Godly path and they will never stray.
A young expectant mother asked me if I felt it was odd for her to worry about her unborn child. My response was that you will worry about you child every day of your life until you die but through prayer it comforts all.
I am praying that my son will know that God will never leave him
I have 3 boys- ages 10,7 &3. I pray so many things over them but the one that speaks to me most of your list is #10 phil 4:8. So many of our battles begin in our mind & before long we start to act upon them. For this reason, I feel so strongly about praying over their minds. I pray that they think on things that are pure & honorable. I also pray that they have a heart for Jesus- just as David did!
This could not have come at a better time for me. I am the mother of four boys living in Arkansas. I just returned home last nightt from California taking my 18 yr old to attend Azusa Pacific University. A Christian university. While on the two day journey home my prayers were not of just his safety and money…but of his spiritual life to flourish first. His personal life in Christ to shine and the staff to help develop the gifts and talents God has placed in him to succeed as an evangelist for Christ and servant to his fellow man. Thank you Soooo much.
I pray that my son will always love and honor The Lord and keep his eyes, ears, heart & mouth open to The Lord and his word & love
Can’t wait to print this out & have handy, especially on the hard days. Thank you! !
I have two boys… 6 & 9. My husband and I recently separated and it has been hard on all of us but especially the boys. It is amazing to watch my 9 year old pick up the devotional bible his grandpa gave him and read it every night. My prayer is that my boys will cling to God and truly experience a relationship with Him. A dear friend actually just shared a prayer for me to pray out of this book. I would love to have one!!
I am praying for my 13 year old. There are ways I have failed him and times I have allowed frustration get the best of me. I pray for his heart to turn to God and for patience for me. I feel the next 10 years could be very difficult. Thank uou for sharing this today!
My son is almost 2. I pray everyday for he to be drawn to God. I pray he walk after The Lord. (#2) To serve God and to obey Him. I search the Scriptures every week and pray I’m the mom I am called to be. To train him up in the way he should go. Not being raised in a God-fearing home this is an intimidating task for me! They need “observing hours” in Christian homes. 🙂 haha
Praying for my son to turn his life around to live for Christ & have the strength to fight the demonic spirits that are deceiving him about his faith & sexuality.
I am praying he will be strong in his faith and be a light to those around him.
I am praying that my son will understand the gospel so deeply in his life that it will transform every aspect of his life.
I really like this! I have three young boys and my daughter is having her first in about 8-9 weeks! Oh how we could both use this tool. I pray for my sons and their future choices, be it the ways of the world today temptations, drugs alcohol, casual sex, academic choices, career choices, future spouses. I pray that God will light their path and steer them in the right direction with each choice they have to make each and every day from now until we are all in heaven! What a journey we are on! God Bless you both and your ministries!
Thank you for this post! I love all the encouraging truths for raising boys. I need these reminders daily for my 3 boys. My biggest prayer for them would be the verse from Philippians. “…whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is commendable; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, may he think about these things.”
I am praying that my son be strong and courageous. He is a freshman this year at a new school. He has yet to make a good friend. He is a strong academic student but no longer enjoys school because he walks into a building of almost 2000 kids each day with no excitement about seeing a friendly face or sharing a true laugh. He dreads school and it breaks my heart.
Thank you for these Scriptural prayers.
I have 3 sons, 16, 13 & 11. Each with their own personality. I appreciate the prayers will start implementing them quickly. Each day is a new adventure. Thanks!!
I have 2 daughters…no sons…yet! Some day my cherished daughters will marry and so I will have sons-in-love. I pray that they will be men after God’s own heart. Men who will lead my daughters in the ways of God and that they will cherish my daughters as much as I do.
my son is 28 yrs old.Has went in so many wrong ways.I pray for him everyday that he will bring god into his life ans remember I love him and want the best for him.not to hurt him but to help him.
My son is an adult but has fallen away from God in many areas of his life. He knows we are praying for him and he says thanks but with his family situation we haven’t been able to have the close relationship that we used to. Reading the list of prayers, I can say that I’ve either prayed them all or will be. Thanks and I can’t wait for the ones for the daughters as well.
May my son walk after You, God, and fear You and keep Your commandments and obey Your voice. May he serve You and hold fast to You (Deuteronomy 13:4).
My son is two years old, and to be honest, I don’t regularly pray for anything specific when it comes to him; of which I’m quite ashamed to admit. However, this post was a great eye opener, reminding me that prayer is powerful. Looking forward to praying many prayers for my son!
I am trying to revisit your recent post “5 Scriptures to Pray Over Your Marriage”, and it will not open. I’ve tried three different computers. Do you know why? Could you please send me a copy to my email? Thank you so much!
I pray my son’s (3 and 5) follow their heart and not the world. I pray their heart has Jesus. I pray that as their mother I can make the right decisions for them till they are old enough to understand and make their own and when that time comes they don’t lose direction. I pray for their salvation.
I have 2 sons ages 8 and 17. I pray that they will be bold witnesses for The Lord. When the world tells them to compromise, I pray they will hold fast to their convictions.
We have three boys! “The Charmings” as we call them! We pray LOTS of things for the Charmings, every day, since they were in the womb, and audibly praying over them. We pray for their future wives, we pray for them to be bold & courageous men who know & love Jesus. We pray for them to be gentlemen, loving & tender, but tough, hard working & protective men. That they have a heart for serving people, men of integrity & men who are selfless. What a blessing & high calling it is to raise boys!!!
I have two boys one is 19 and i pray with my heart nd tears inmy eyes #1 proverbs 51:10… the other is 15 nd 1 Timothy 4;12.. i pray for both constsntly with the enemy already attacking one that’s my only strength!! Thanks because i really needed this.

#5 for my 5 boys . 14,13,10,4,&2
Thank you for this article. These are all so good. We have really struggled with our 8 year old so this was very encouraging. My current prayer for him will be: May my son listen to the way of wisdom and be led in the paths of uprightness (Proverbs 4:11)
Wow! I can’t say thank you enough for this post. I’m a mom of 2 boys ages 7 and 4. I pray right now that they remember that they are Gods Workmanship and God created them to be exactly who they are and He loves them. I also pray they continue to have hearts that seek after Him.
With 5 sons ranging in age from 13 down 7, I need to pray all of these daily. I homeschool them as well, which is a relatively new adventure for us, and I can get frustrated with them. I have found myself quoting them the last one more than once, as well as a few others. Thank you for this post!!
Such an amazing post. Thank you for sharing. I have 3 sons (Braden 5, Kage 3 and Chase 1) and sometimes it feels like I am way outnumbered in my fight. I am excited to pray all of these over them but starting with Deuteronomy 13:4.
I am really praying for my 20 year old son who is in jail right now. He knows the Lord. I pray he turns to Him and becomes a stronger person from all this. Then, I am praying for my 8 year old son to grow closer to God.
My son is 2, nearly 3. I pray that he will realize his need of a Savior, and that God would show him that Jesus Christ is that Savior. I am praying that he sees God’s grace and mercy extended to him at an early age, so that he can bring God glory all his life.
For my son: Listen to the ways of wisdom and be led in the path of uprightness!
I pray that my son, 5, grows up to be a man that loves God, his wife, and his family.
I pray that when my son does wrong that he would be caught.
Praying that my son would listen to & follow wise counsel.
Each day I pray that my 20 month old son falls in love with God as he grows up. That his heart is on fire for our Lord in a way not even he can understand.
I mean truly prayed. I took your words to heart and prayed them all over my two boys (4&6) as they lay sleeping. It was powerful. So powerful I’m kneeling & crying now in their room. I’ve usually prayed the daily for them- thankfulness for today, direction, discernment, wisdom, caring for tomorrow, RTC. But I feel like I was given a major picture of what their future can be with the power of a praying mom. Thank you.
Oh wow ! This sounds just like me and my 8 year daily!! I have just completed the Unglued series and most of my “Unglued Moments” were escalated from my sons behavior and my actions! Very excited to post these throughout my house for daily reminders!! Would LOVE to get a copy of this awesome book! 🙂 Thank you for sharing!!
Lord please place your hedge of protection around Landry – help him to be safe, healthy, and happy – rise him up Lord to be a Godly leader for YOU – help him Lord to serve you in everything he says and everything he does – help Landry live so others will see You in his life! amen
I often pray for my son to be brave and strong and know the strength of God’s love. These 10 prayers are powerful and I cannot wait to pray scripture to the Lord for my son.
I am praying each for my beautiful boys, ages 1 and 4. I am so blessed to be their mom, and pray God will help me do my best with his gifts.
That nothing would hinder my sons from coming to Christ when the are young.
I have two girls, 6 and 4, and one boy who is 19 months old. I loved being able to write these scriptures down in my journal so I could pray them over Gabriel. There is so much power in speaking God’s word. One thing I pray over all my children is this: I pray that God protects my children from all evil and harm, and that all evil men’s eyes would be blinded and all evil men’s plans be thwarted in their lives! Amen!
I pray and thank God daily for giving me my son. Needing a heart lung transplant, my prayer is for him to know Jesus as his support and strength as I have. Our fate is sure. Our hopes secure, come what may. I pray for a miracle and that God decides to let my son stay here with me.
Loved this post…great reminders of all the ways we need to pray for our sins. From tiny babies to big boys.
Wow! It’s been quite a day with my sweet 6-year-old…this is just what I needed! God knew! I pray that his strong will will one day help him be a great leader. I pray he will love others and that they may see Christ in him. I pray he will remember that his words and actions do affect others… For good or bad. I just pray for this little life that God has blessed me with.
I have 3 sons – ages 14, 10, 8. I pray my sons would feel Your constant gift of grace in their lives. That they would realize they are weak and You are strong. Praying 2 Cor. 12:9.
I pray every morning for my teenage sons. They are becoming mighty young men of God. I’m so proud and often complimented and asked my secret….prayer, prayer, prayer and more prayer.
My prayer is my boys will always keep Jesus in their hearts and keep him the center of their lives.
I pray all the time, as a homeschooling mom, that God would bless my sons heart and mind and that he would follow Jesus all the days of his life.
I am praying for my son’s healing.
My boys are 15 & 19. My oldest just transferred to a 4 year college and is own his own for the first time. I pray daily that God puts a hedge of protection around my boys and that he would draw them closer to him. I pray Lord, Let it Rain, Open the Floodgates of Heaven. I pray that God’s will be done in their life and not their own. I also pray for their future spouse. That God places a Godly wife in their lives at the right time and place and that they will be a Godly man for them.
I have one son who is also my only child I pray daily that he will be strong and courageous. I pray for his safety and well being. I also pray for patience and wisdom.
Phil 4:8 — what a perfectly ON TIME blog!!! God knows just what we need when we need it – thank you for being His vessel! 🙂
Right now, over my two young sons, this is the most applicable:
“May my son walk after You, God, and fear You and keep Your commandments and obey Your voice. May he serve You and hold fast to You (Deuteronomy 13:4).”
Thank you for these – the guidance is wonderful in how to pray more for them.
I pray for my 3 boys that they will grow up to be Godly men who will love The Lord with all their heart.
May he listen to the way of wisdom and walk uprightly. Hits so close to home- thanks for a great post!
Boy… I needed this and needed to hear its not just me… I snuggle my almost 8 year old ( only when he’s sleeping, because I can’t go near him awake) my heart is heavy with the distance he is suddenly putting between us… I pray that : May my son listen to the way of wisdom and be led in the paths of uprightness (Proverbs 4:11).
We pray that Levi will accept Christ as his Lord and Savior.
We have two sons that we adopted from DSS this year. They are 5 & 3 and we feel amazingly blessed and completely overwhelmed. Both boys were born addicted to drugs and struggle with impulsive issues and hyper activity. I pray that God can heal any unseen hurts and that He guides us to be the parents He called us to be.
Thank you for this post….it was so needed. ♥♡♥
Thank you for sharing prayers for boys. They have my heart ❤
I pray for God to walk ahead of, behind and next to my son leading and protecting him throughout his life.
My prayers for my two sons, now 14 and 18, have always been that they answer the callings for which God created them.
My oldest son is 13 & my prayer is that he does not conform to the world & believe the lies that are in it, but that he is bold to do what is right with the truth he holds in his heart. That he listens to the truth and follows it instead.
I seem to pray a lot for health and sleep because he’s 9 months. Please Lord, help me learn to pray great prayers for my son.
I’m praying that he will learn to clearly hear and obey God’s votive.
I pray for a peaceful heart so my sin can hear God speak to him. Also for his future spouse and that I raise him as God wants me to. I plan on adding these precious prayers to my current ones! Thank you! 🙂
Two of my sons are U.S. Marines. I pray that no weapon formed against them will prosper. I pray a hedge of wisdom and protection to surround them. I pray that they always seek the face of God. I pray that The Lord will bless them and keep them in His care.
I am praying that my son will follow God’s commandments and listen to His voice.
I pray for my two sons salvation and a long healthy life living for The Lord.
I have three boys under 5, and I have many prayers that get me through the day! Mostly I pray that they love as good as their daddy loves me and them, and that they stay as innocent as they are now, in the way the see the world and new things around them and don’t judge people based on looks but get to know people on the inside.
I need help praying for them right now, but especially my 3 year old. He seems to have combined the terrible twos with the threes and I’m worried for him. I know he needs to learn about his independence and has a mind of his own now, and I ask God to help him direct his thoughts and actions to those pleasing to Him. I pray that God will help him find the right path and that he will grow to be understanding and kind, sensitive yet strong, but most of all to be loving.
I believe God sent your article to me today! I had asked for prayer for my son last night at my women’s Bible study group. I have been having a difficult time with him lately…and he too is 8! Thank you for bringing my attention to the fact that it’s not him I am battling but the enemy!!
I pray that my son follows God and listens to his wisdom. He’s four and doesn’t listen to much but I pray God can calm his spirit
Love this! My son is 3.5. Today has been one of those days where I have needed prayer for him and me 🙂 ! Specifically, I am praying for him to listen to wisdom and always know who he is and to whom he belongs. Thanks!
Wow! This is awesome! I have often wondered HOW I can pray for my sons (Andrew, age 5 and William, age 3 months). As a mommy of only boys I loved this article! What a perfect example of how and what we should be praying for when we pray over our precious little boys. Thank you!
I pray for my son daily. Your list is great. I will specifically be praying: May my son walk after You, God, and fear You and keep Your commandments and obey Your voice. May he serve You and hold fast to You (Deuteronomy 13:4).
I am pregnant with my first child (a son) and I’ve already begun praying for him and one of the prayers I pray over him is very similar to this one: May my son walk after You, God, and fear You and keep Your commandments and obey Your voice. May he serve You and hold fast to You (Deuteronomy 13:4).
I am going to start praying this exact verse over his life. Thank you for this post.
I pray #7. I also pray for my son to have grace and a forgiving heart.
Being raised on a farm I pray that he will be a hard worker, one who manages his life in a way that is pleasing to God.
I have a very spirited 5 year old. I love him dearly, but he always seems to know how to push my buttons. I have printed this list of scriptures. I plan on writing them out on index cards to carry with me at all times. Thank you so much. This is exactly what I needed to hear today.
I have 3 boys 1girl. I pray for my kids to love God deeply, I pray for their spouses, and the husbands they will be. I pray that they know God personally. And I pray that if they do something wrong that they get caught. I pray that they will be drawn to the right kind of friends and kept away from the wrong friends. I got a prayer card from author Sharon Jaynes that inspires these prayers and backs them with scripture.
Wow, love the prayers. I have been asking God for guidance in helping us raise our children. This definately is what I have been searching for. Thank you for sharing, God is good and always answers prayer. You made my day.
I have 3 boys and a girl as well, and pray the same things.
