If your name is Joel, don’t read this…

June 19, 2013

Happy Wednesday my bloggy friends!

I thought I’d take a break from writing my book. But we’ll keep that a little secret between you and I since my deadline is quickly approaching.

Or it might have actually passed. And I am holding my breath that my editor, Joel, is going to call any day now. Or show up on my doorstep. And with all the love in the world (because he is incredibly smart and kind) demand this manuscript right now. Yikes. Gulp. Prayers please?!

I’m at 47,000 words.

And I need to be at 55,000 words. Or maybe it’s 60,000? Have mercy on my soul.

I was awfully close to finishing last week. But then I cut lots of words after writing this post. Because the person that needed to read that the very most was me.

So. If your name is Joel might I offer you some cookies today and a manuscript next week?

Sigh.

Back to my blog friends. Might I mention today that your hair looks lovely? I know that to be true because mine is currently in such a state of total discombobulation that in comparison, anything would be a step up. I cannot lie. Mine is a situation right now.

But let’s not talk hair.

The real reason I’m writing is to tell you about some fun things going on in the ministry world.

First, Proverbs 31 has… drumroll, please… a brand new logo!

P31_LOGO-01

We’re moving into a whole new website design and adding departments to the ministry. Stay tuned for more details on what’s to come!

And here’s another exciting announcement… Women of Faith is taking over my blog on Tuesday, June 25 at 9PM (EST) for a free, encouraging webcast on living a life of significance.

Do you ever have those days where you just feel drained and insecure?

Me too.

That’s why I can’t wait to be with my friends Sheila Walsh, Lisa Harper, Holly Wagner, and special guest Roma Downey to talk about what to do on those days.

Sign up below for a reminder e-mail, and I’ll see you right back here next week!

Now it’s your turn. Do you have any exciting news or praise reports in your life? Or hair suggestions? I’ll take those as well. Let’s chat in the comments below.

That new logo is just right! I’m so looking forward to the Women of Faith webcast on Tuesday. But mostly because, no on has to see MY hair! Summer does not love my hair. Although, I’ve been hearing an awful lot of love being thrown around for the blessed bobby pin lately. I just need to find and industrial strength version.

May the next 8 or 13 thousand words fly from your fingertips to the keyboard. Yes Lord!

I ask for prayer for patience, I’m waiting on something to come back so I can start a new job, and I’m nervous that it will come back and I won’t get the job.

Try WEN for your hair. Little pricey at first but eliminates a lot of other products. I love it – been using it for over a year. Tamed my frizzy head. You know it is good when your husband compliments you the first day you use it! QVC usually has some really good deals on it too. 🙂

Good luck with the book! Praying for you!

    Hi Lisa,
I enjoy your devotionals. I just finished your study “What Happens When Women Say Yes to God” all I can say is I loved it! I have a steno pad filled with notes, thoughts and verses with the Bible commentaries. I do this so that I can leave something for my children & grandchildren to hopefully help them along life’s path. I am half way through your study “What Happens when Women Walk in Faith” “loving” it also, again taking notes and such on the 2nd steno pad for this one. God Bless you and all the work you do.

Well today my hair cannot possibly look better than yours, and all I can say is thank goodness when I opened your blog post it was not a repeat of your mom answering her Ipad call (hehe). I do have a praise, I have been praying for almost six years now for God to open a door in my ministry to allow the orphans I serve to have a group home to transition to once they “age out”. Not only has God begun to move, but the home will be run by the local christian church (this is a communist country btw). So these children will know the love of a family AND the love of God at the same time. Praising God for His answered prayers and for anwering them beyond all that I asked or could have imagined. (Eph 3:20-21). Love the new logo and as for hair tips, one can only assume this is collateral damage from the hot, humid NC summer air :o) Have a great day Lysa and I know you will get your book finished in time!

The new logo is fabulous just as Proverbs 31 Ministries is 🙂 My continual praise is for your ministry and the inspiration and hope it provides to me daily. Thanks for all you do.

I also have two big PRAISES today. Today is my 3 year anniversary with my husband Brock. He’s my best friend, favorite person and gift from GOD each day. I’m so thrilled I get to go through life with him by my side. Secondly, we’re expecting our first child in November! I’m just about at the halfway point at 18 weeks and feeling wonderful. The little blessing is a perfect baby thus far and I’m so blessed to be their mommy!

Love the new logo. Thanks for the compliment on my hair…who knew that the sponge roller look was in because that’s what’s happening on top of my head at the moment (thanks to a Pinterest experiment). 😉 I’m already feeling like it’s gone awry but I’m sticking with it to the end. Anywho…excited about the webcast! I put my email in your little box thingy to get a reminder. And for a praise report…I’m deadlining right now for my first manuscript due at the end of July. The goal is 50,000 words and I’m at 35,000. I’m feeling good!

Hang in there! Lots of us are rooting for you and sending up prayers right this minute. …And remember if you pull all of your hair out, it might not look as good, but it will be easier to style! 🙂 Seriously, I know what you mean. I used to work for a small newspaper and there were days my deadline was counting down and it seemed like I was doing ANYTHING but put words on the page. I used to set my timer for 5 minutes and play Sudoku. Okay, sometimes 10. But, It gave my conscious mind something else do so my subconscious mind could work the kinks out of my story. Maybe you need a mental distraction for 5 minutes. 🙂

Love the new logo. I’m sure your hair is just fine. Besides washing mine this morning all I did was let it air dry. I was hoping for a hair cut but couldn’t get an appointment until tomorrow. If that is the worst thing that happens, it is a pretty good day. I praise God for allowing me shelter and quick exit from an abusive marriage. I do request your prayers for my husband. His turning to God and accepting Christ as savior is his only hope.

Change is good…we feel refreshed even if nothing was wrong with the old way. Now about this deadline thing. GLORY…can’t even imagine. Interesting the requirement for a certain amount of words. As I know NOTHING about that world it makes me wonder about all the books that I sometimes feel just went too far in repeating or stuff not so stirring. Aren’t we better sometimes with fewer words that hit the mark? Perhaps they expect to take all those words and whittle it down to the gutsy stuff. I’m in awe of God speaking through His peeps. Praying Joel will go for the cookies as he waits. 😉

And lastly I love how you and Ann Voskamp have crossed paths. I love when my fav authors come together. what inspiration I get from you sweet ladies.
And on a final note, man have I seen God moving since I read your Unglue book (and gave myself a break) and began my joy dare journal after reading Ann’s book and God is just everywhere. He is in every nook and cranny. He was with me as my grandfather left this earth and passed into Him. I was beyond blessed to see at 41 the depth of living and dying well all come full circle. How my heart misses my grands but oh how my heart rejoices to have seen such glory, purpose and peace in my grandfather and his final days. God was glorified and was grown and we all saw Jesus sitting on the bed beside him talking him through the final process of life. May we all be so blessed in our lifetime.

I have a praise report!!! During the past couple of months, I have really struggled with some issues in life that DID leave me feeling insecure of my purpose or “significance” in life. Some of those issues, I have been able to share with others, some I have not been able to share. However, the past week or so… I’ve been communicating with God more about those things. I am here to proclaim and tell everyone that it is through the storms of life that we find our purpose. God never wastes a hurt. I am just grateful to serve A MIGHTY and EVERLASTING GOD!!! When we give up, I’m so glad that He does not! When we stumble, I’m so glad He is there to pick us up… to dust us off and to remind up why were are here!!! I am SO thrilled about the livecast next week!!! I expect great things to come from it!!! Praise God that it has been during the past couple of weeks (one of my toughest moments in life) that HE has revealed Himself and given me the outline to the book I have started writing on the topic of purpose (significance). Grateful to have stumbled over Lysa’s FB page, through a link shared by a dear friend. I have been a FB fan of P31 Ministries for a while! I do not believe in coincidence.

He was on life support for 10 days and able to return home two days ago. He still needs a walker to move around and is getting the Stent removed tomorrow. Hi, Lysa! Thank you so much for all of your encouragement, always pointing me back to Christ. My family is about to go through a big move. We are relocating from Illinois to North or South Carolina! We are not sure which one we will live in yet. My husband’s office is close to the border of North and South Carolina. We have been through lots of hard things in the last several years. I do not even want to think about where I would be without having a relationship with Jesus through it all. There have been so many times that I have felt like giving up and then I would read a blog post from either you or Ann Voskamp with such life-giving Truth, helping me to just keep going, keeping my eyes on my only Hope, Jesus. I feel like God is doing something new in my life. He has been working in me so deeply the past several years. I am excited to see what He has in store for me and my family in the Carolinas. I hope to be able to meet you one day, sweet friend. Thank you for being wonderful you! 🙂

    Lysa,
I’ve been trying so hard to get in touch with you…… I just need you to know God keeps laying it on my heart to keep pursuing you… You are my mentor and I truly believe that God made you an author to speak directly to me. I have always struggled with my weight always been at the forefront of my daily life. When I had my daughter a year and a half ago my weight sky rocketed…. I had to do something it was controlling my whole life. In January of this year I started the Run for God program and your book Made to Crave and since then I have lost 27 pounds depending on God. This is the only thing that has ever worked for me. I’ve lost 62 pounds all together since the birth of my daughter. You are such and inspiration to me that I always credit it to God and you. Since then 8 other women has bought your book through my inspiration and started reading it. I have read it 3 times since then I just feel more accountable when I read it. I teach kindergarten and being out for summer I have already read What happens when women say yes to God and I am currently reading What happens when women walk in faith. You have changed my life so much! Thank you for all you do! God has a plan I will meet you and talk to you one day!!

Strange request. This morning, June 21st between 5:05-5:20 AM K-Love radio played a promo with you speaking about “waiting” in our lives. This is what was playing when my alarm went off. I felt like your words were answers to my prayers. Could you email me the wave file so I can listen to it again and write your words down? If you don’t have access to the taped file, can you email me the words you said? Thanks.

Lysa, thank you so much for your authenticity! I love reading your “real life” situations and so often think, “You and me both sister!” (In this case, specifically about the if-my-husband-comes-in-with-my-hair-like-this-he-will-probably-run-screaming kind of day). Thanks for a breath of fresh air!

    Lysa,
There are so many things about your book Unglued that I want to thank you for, but, by far, the most important thing to me is the way you are so REAL! Thank you. Thank you. That is such a tremendous help to all of us ladies who are struggling. And that includes all of us! It’s hard to be broken and honest, but you do it beautifully! Thank you.

I’m not even sure what I want to say. Lysa, I hope you personally read this. Last Saturday, one week ago today, I attempted to take my life. I overdosed on Valium. I was unconscious when my husband found me. I just got to come home from the hospital Thursday. Two days prior to my suicide attempt, a friend of mine had given me your book, “Unglued”. She knew I was struggling. I hadn’t gotten to read any of it yet. However, when my husband came home and packed my bags for the hospital, he packed your book and my Bible. Being in the hospital after a suicide attempt is a lot like jail. I had limited access to everything. There was an alarm on my bed if I got up in the middle of the night, I couldn’t have shoe laces in my shoes, you name it. I found some time to take your book and began to read it. The hospital would not allow me an ink pen or a highlighter, just a small pencil like you get when you go play putt-putt. I’ve underlined so much that I feel like the whole book is underlined! Your book has so touched my life! I’m such a mom that compares myself to every other mom. Every other mom who doesn’t seem to have financial difficulties, their kids are always dressed perfectly, they stay on their budget, their menu is made 2 weeks in advance, they go to the gym and still have time to work overtime at work! You were so brutally honest in your book that you were normal. You speak at events and lead others to Christ, yet you yell at your kids too. I so cried sitting on that bed in that hospital room by myself. I feel so guilty for everything! To top it off, I used to teach Bible studies at my church too. Now I’ve got multiple cuts up my arms, tears in my eyes, and trying to figure out how to end it all without my kids finding me. I’m so overwhelmed with life.
My favorite part of your book was about us being God’s masterpiece and allowing Him to chisel away at us. I’m not sure I’m worth it to Him anymore but I hope that’s what He is doing. I met a 19 year old girl in the hospital going through detox. Before I was discharged I wrote her a letter and told her about being part of God’s workmanship and His chiseling away at her and how her drug use didn’t define who she was. I used your words to try and help her. If only I can believe them for myself. I’m scared I’m not going to make it. I’m scared of what the future holds for me. I feel guilty for what I’ve done and the money this will now cost us. At times I feel like I couldn’t even commit suicide and do it right!
I just wanted you to know your book helped me through this past week. Thank you.
Will you talk to Jesus for me? Remind Him of me.

      Dana,
Your comment is an amazing testimony of God’s grace and you are a miracle! It never ceases to amaze me, God is ALWAYS there, but so is the enemy….. I will also pray for you and your struggle. I am glad you “couldn’t even commit suicide and do it right” GOD has a plan and a purpose for your life. He is working even when it feels like He is not there, HE IS THERE, HE WAS THERE, and HE WILL ALWAYS BE THERE! Lamentations 22-24 “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning! Great is Your Faithfulness Oh Lord! I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for Him,” The bible also tells us we are written on his hands.
      Thank you for your honesty.
      Praying for you sister Dana!

My heart still aches. I love your outlook and your hope. I’m having good days and bad. Do you really think I’m a miracle??Sometimes I think God is here and other times, so far away.
My heart hurts so bad sometimes!

      Dana,
Your letter to Lysa broke my heart but I can relate. I’m 38 yrs old & have had rheumatoid arthritis for twenty yrs. Sometimes the pain is sooo overwhelming I just want it to all go away.
But I know that I know that I am the apple of my Heavenly Father’s eye. And you are too!!!!!!! Believe me, you are still and will always be worth it to Him!!!! I will be praying for you & your family Dana because you are a miracle. God isn’t finished with you yet. He’s still got things for you to do. So get busy girl & let me tell ya, I’m preachin’ to the choir here! Ha!!
Let’s do what we know we have to do & get busy for His kingdom!!!!

      Your sister in Christ,
      Melissa

Hi Lysa! I’ve always been so encouraged whenever i read your blog posts or devos, particularly the ones on marriage. Thank you for sharing your heart and godly wisdom!
My best advice for hair is something i’ve just recently discovered…..invest in a good dryer! I seriously didn’t think that would make much difference but WOW…i spent $60 on a professional dryer and it was totally worth it! Just a thought 🙂

Praise…our church had VBS last week and we had 9 children invite Jesus into their heart as their Savior and 4 children who already asked Jesus to be their Savior but came for baptism. What an exciting week we had!

Wow – exciting news or comment. Which one to pick? Perhaps I can combine the two. This is my first comment on a blog post! Proverbs 31 ministries & Lysa have been an encouragement to my heart. I look forward to seeing that daily devotion in my inbox. I’m thankful that Jesus Christ has done such a wonderful work in Lysa’s life and in the lives of the other P31 staff. Love the new P31 logo! Have a beautiful day.
