Friday Favorites: Cuteness

April 5, 2013

To start this Friday Favorites, I must advise you first and foremost not to forget to wash the conditioner out of your hair. It’s never a good idea. And then deciding to just blow dry it and hope for the best?

Well, that’s just a whole ‘nother level of disaster.

I speak from personal experience people.

It’s the opposite of this week’s theme, cuteness.

blog post-2

First, the shoes. I’m not typically an animal print kind of gal. But I adore the cuteness found in the leopard flat. I’m not sure at all if you can wear these into the spring and summer so I may be a day late and a dollar short on including these. But at $19.99 I couldn’t resist. Thank you Target.

The earrings. These just make me want to be nice to somebody. Not that I’m typically in the mood to be not nice. But slipping these on with a casual white t-shirt, your favorite jeans, a few slim gold bangles (and maybe even the leopard flats) just might make me want to hug you.

And that’s big. Because while I do love a good handshake, I’m an awkward hugger. But not in these earrings. I’m convinced.

The bag. This is one I’ll have to save for. It’s a bit pricey. But I think I could just casually sling this on and it might make even a grocery store trip fun. Oh who am I kidding. Grocery stores are never fun. But maybe with this purse they might be?

The necklace. Y’all know I write for and adore my friends at (in)Courage

Well, they recently came out with this “Redeemed Necklace” that I think makes for the perfect birthday little something-something for a friend. I love the layered charm look and the meaning of “redeemed.” I might have just bought one for you. See details below.

The Tea. I have no idea if I’d like the actual taste of this tea but I sure do like the thought of it. I’m trying to drink less sodas (I know, I know all my organic friends are just horrified that I like carbonated chemicals. They are all the time giving me scary articles to read. But the delight of the fizz just sometimes calls my name.)

Think of how impressed they’d be if they saw me just casually sipping on this tea with fruit hanging off the side. Is lemon a fruit? I’m thinking yes.

And finally the notebook. I just love something cute upon which to scribble my lists and thoughts and ideas. Life is too short to use the backs of receipts to entrust your most profound ideas, or absolutely not profound at all ideas.

So, back to the necklace I mentioned above. I’m giving one away today! Just leave a comment below telling me what you’d like to see covered on future Friday Favorites posts and you’ll be entered to win. And then the next time we see each other we could both wear them and be twins! Or not.

Smiles. Happy Friday.

I’d like to see something to help generations “meet” – younger women really want the life messages of older women; older women open up more to younger women. Maybe the generational divide is “normal,” but it’s not Titus 2. How to fix this … ?

I love these ideas! I pulled a cute top out of my closet today and had a friend tell me I looked so stinkin cute! Made my day. Plus the fact that my 9 almost 10 year old said, mom, you look cute!! I love all the ideas you suggsed and am ready to shop. I want some leopard flats, just not sure I can pull them off because I think along the lines of matchy matchy. Love you and your blog!

Hmmm…I like seeing things you love, but don’t need encouragement to spend money. 🙂 I do love the necklace though!!!!! Creative free or low cost ideas of things you’ve actually done with your family. You don’t have to invent something new, just personal stories or rainy day/snow activities, summer ideas, etc.

Can I just say that I really LOVE the necklace? Because it reminds me of the song by Big Daddy Weave “I Am Redeemed”. I’ve heard that song, SOOO many times….but last Friday I had the chance to just really listen to the words and let them speak to me like they never had before….I was a big sobbing mess, thanking my God for redeeming me. This necklace would be a great reminder that yes, I AM redeemed.

I love the necklace! Never seen those before. On Friday favorites, I’d like to see some products that help us get scripture in front of our kids and families more – pretty erase board easels for the breakfast table, flip calendars, stickers, restickable wall art verses, etc! We are over-saturated with quotes and sayings from the world – we need more of God’s Word in our houses and lives 🙂

What a fun post! I love the comment from the other ladies, and think that having ideas for favorite things to do outside (in all seasons) or ways for generations to “meet” (I am personally a big fan of spending time with grandma aged ladies, they are always so amazing to listen to and have so much wisdom to share!), but one thing that would be great for me would be favorite ways to include your kiddos in your Bible study/devotional times. I’ve realized recently that I tend to do my Bible study and devos time when my little guy is napping or after he goes to bed, because that’s when I can really concentrate on it… but I’d love to include him in it, and help him to see how important that study is. So – I’m open to hearing ideas on how that might work! =-)

Love this. I would like to see a “go to” little dress that is flattering and not too short. I had one years ago and wore it out and they no longer make the style. Also, I have yet to find a bag/tote that works, without being too cumbersome to carry my Bible and study materials in. You always have such wonderful items, I am sure you have suggestions.
BTW, we have a wonderful little tea shop where I live and they serve iced and hot tea. Hot tea is an acquired taste, but is such a comfort at those times I do not want coffee, but want something warm to sip on while I have my quiet time.
Thank you for all that you do. You are a blessing to so many!

We have a spring and fall getaway each year with a casual meal and speaker and a “fun” special feature included (accessorizing for spring, etc.) We also have a Festival of Tables where the ladies are in charge of decorating their table and inviting other ladies to be seated at their table. This event also involves dinner and a speaker and fun feature. Just wondered what other ideas you have for bringing all ages of women together for fellowship in their church. Thank you!!! But maybe you could talk about your favorite girlfriend things to do, best low cost gifts for: weddings, kids, family, friends; ideas on how to not overcommit/over extend yourself when so many things look good, and favorite little shops or hidden treasures that you’ve stumbled across in your many adventures!

I love these Friday posts. They are fun and inspiring. I’d love to see quick fun day trip ideas for the spring/summer. Also some fun things to do with the kiddos. I have a 10 year old granddaughter that my husband and I have adopted and are raising. It’s not as easy for me to think of fun ideas that she’d enjoy as it was with my two daughters. Thanks for the give-away. I’d love info to be able to order one in the event I do not win this one. Thanks for all you do. I enjoy every post you have made.

I love your Friday favorites. They make you so relatable…. but again, you already have seemed relatable without the Friday favorites, so again, they aren’t really needed…. just FUN!

Your blog is great and the opportunity for a give-a-way is great. One of my best friends (who moved away) called today and during our discussion mentioned your name, letting me know that she recently participated in the UNGLUED Bible study in her church in Georgia. She then suggested that I get this book as it related to many of the things we were talking about as we caught up on our lives.

I’d love to hear more about confirming God’s call on our lives and steps to take to move forward in that call. How do you know when that “nudge” inside you is really a call?

Well I do love your Friday favorites also I think you and I have similar tastes. I own those leopard flats already but do love me some animal prints. The Friday favorite segment I don’t know really know thinking any encouragement is good. Maybe a real event from your week that God used.

Oh, so many options! There are so many things that could be listed under Friday Favorites- hobbies, date night, family vacations, books, time with girlfriends. But I just can’t decide! (I even walked away from my computer and came back hoping that would narrow it down.)
Instead I realized that whatever you post Lysa would be funny, encouraging, and/or inspiring. God has given you such a gift and I am so glad that you choose to share it with us! I pray that God will use me in my brokenness and imperfect progress to inspire and encourage those around me. Thank you!

Your Friday Favorites is my new favorite! I’d love to see a gardening theme. Please know that I am not a gardener (my house seems to be where plants go to die), but I keep thinking that if I could find really fun tools and gloves and pots, I would become the most amazing gardener ever! Or, at least dream…

I love the random-ness of Friday Favorites. I like how there is something that appeals to everyone. I like seeing jewelry that does not cost the moon and the stars, and writing paraphernalia, all sorts of girl stuff that makes me feel good. So as you can see, I’m liking it just as it is – more random nuggets of goodness that are well within my reach.

It’s encouraging to know that it’s important just to do something or have something because you like it (like your notebook). I have a set of utility knives with black handles and zebra print blades. Somehow they make slicing veggies a lot more fun!

Hey Lysa, I absolutely LOVE your posts! They are always so encouraging and for some reason, I can just relate to you! I love getting to hear/see you at the EWomen Conferences in Roanoke, Va and I really enjoyed hearing you speak at our church (Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg Va) earlier this year. I get a kick out of hearing you talk about your hair and not “honking at your mama!”. You are just too cute and I absolutely adore how you share your heart for God with all of us. Proverbs 31 Ministries has been such a blessing to me and MANY of my friends! What a Godly example you ladies are to the rest of us! I love the necklace giveaway that you mention … what a sweet and thoughtful thing to do and one more way to shine your light for Jesus Christ! God bless you always!

Hi, Lisa! I love your Friday favorites. Inspires me to make a Target run! haha! I would love to see some makeup or skin care faves. I am always searching (or making my own) creams and moisturizers. I like to hear what others have to say about what they do. I had this conversation with some friends a few weeks ago and some said they used a tiny bit of hemorrhoid cream under their eyes each day. I was grossed out a little but they had been doing it for years to reduce puffiness. So…I may have to try it to see how it works for me. 🙂 Happy Friday!

I attended a womans event in houston where you were speaking and heard your amazing adoption testimony! The Lord used that to begin working on my heart to adopt. We have since adopted 2 little boys! Thanks for all you do and the heart you have for women! Happy Friday 🙂

I really like the qoute idea that someone else already mentioned! I LOVED quotes, I have them posted ALL over my office, they help me get through the day! Some are spiritual and some just make you smile. For example, “Having a two year old is like having a blender that you don’t have the top for-Jerry Seinfield.” How true is this!?!? Another idea is a positive or inspirational true story 🙂

Love the Redeemed necklace, wish I would have had it to give to the Kindergarten teacher today… tomorrow is her birthday! One thing I think would benefit me (especially my husband) is how to gracefully bow out of an argument… and NOT come Unglued! How to save face, to try and take my blood pressure down a notch, when I want to keep ‘having the last word!’ Can you tell, my sweet husband and I came unglued and made a sticky mess this week? 🙂

Had to laugh about the conditioner-several years back, my son’s hair looked greasy & I asked if he washed it when he showered, he said “yes.” Next day, still greasy. I asked him if he was sure he was washing his hair everyday. Again, “yes”. I asked a fw more questions, and come to find out, he was “washing” with conditioner. Doesn’t work very well, even if you do rinse it out! He was a teenager at the time, too!

I’m excited for Jesus today and working towards a closer relationship with him through your M2C book and devotion. I have lost 14 pounds in 19 days. Now while I know that sounds fast it hasn’t seemed like it. I feel like I’m just simply eating to live instead of living to eat. I have already started getting compliments but I am doing my very best to keep this about the Lord and not vanity. I have to admit the compliments are nice though.

I love “Friday Favorites”, how about this for a different idea. What about some of the favorite ways people have made your day. For example, I had applied to work in a Spa, and one of the nice things my boss did was to send me a bouquet of cut flowers in a vase. On the card she wrote ” Welcome to the Spa!” That’s how I knew I got the job. Isn’t that nice! So it inspired me to do little nice things like that for others, because it was an unexpected way to learn about employment.

    Lysa,
It really won’t matter to me what your future Friday segment contains. You speak to me and my heart with all you write. I believe we may have been separated at birth! I struggle with so many of the same issues I read about on your blog, your devotions and your books. I thank God that I found you and Proverbs 31 Ministries. As the result of feeling convicted after reading one of your devotions about a year ago, I have repaired the relationship with my estranged sister. And I am using a verse you recently included in a devotion as the basis for our family’s mission statement, which is hung in our entryway for all to see. You see, you inspire me with so much of what you write that I’ll enjoy all of your Friday segments, no matter what. One difference between us is that, while I have four children, mine are in the depths of diapers, night-wakings and naps while yours are teenagers and young adults. So perhaps a topic for us moms with younger children, you could share your motherly advice on surviving these difficult and exhausting years. But truly, whatever God puts on your heart to write will surely speak to me. It almost always does.
And BTW, I’d LOVE that Redeemed necklace. Thanks!

I really like to wear things ( as they did in the Bible/writing the scripture on your forehead so to speak) that remind me of who I am. I have a necklace that says Be still ….It reminds me that I need to do that! One of the things that God is doing in my life is teaching me how to love my neighbor ( that I might inherit eternal life). We have had many tragedies in our “kingdom family” recently and sometimes we need to be reminded to love others when they are not in crisis mode. Ideas on that topic would be great on a Friday to have the weekend to put them into action:)

How about fun and spontaneous things to do at home with the family when the kids come out with that line…”Mooooommmm, I’m bored!” Here is one I can’t wait to try that I recently saw on a movie, it’s called “The Peanut Butter Game” and everyone takes turns lying on the floor and putting peanut butter on their face and letting the dog lick it off! It looks hilarious!

The Redeemed necklace you mentioned doesn’t have the word “redeemed” on it (at least not that I could find), and even though I love it, I’m still in search of jewelry or bags or accessories that say “redeemed”. So in future Friday Favorites, if you come across something like that, maybe you could share that with us. Thanks and y’all have a God-blessed weekend. Linda from Texas.

    Lysa,
    Thanks for the Friday cuteness!
It’s been a rough day and I’m glad I started it in your unglued devotional, and now for the addition of some cute things to bring a smile…
Hubby had to have a surgical test done under anesthesia at the hospital.
As we were leaving to go to the hospital, we got a call that our son who lives in another state fell 20 feet and landed on his head…cracked his skull, some blood pooling and we couldn’t talk to him because he was knocked out on pain meds for the severe pain.
While my hubby was in surgery 2 nurses came to check on me in family waiting because I finally got to talk to my son and was sobbing.
Both have a good prognosis, but it’s been a rough month today, so thanks for the good Word in the AM before all this fun hit and for the sunshine this afternoon!
Love the shoes and for the Target tip!
May have to get my daughter a pair, and, hey, may even check out a pair for me!
I would love more info on the in courage…I have a friend who has a birthday this month!
Thanks for all you do, Lysa!
I’m in full time ministry myself and know how hard it can be!
Keep fighting the good fight, girlfriend!
    Love and Blessings,

One of my friends and I were talking about how we love things that are soft. We love soft blankets, soft robes, soft shirts, soft night shirts, soft socks, etc. The funny thing is this past year at church we were each other’s “secret sister” and I bought her a really soft blanket that she now keeps on her sofa and she bought a really soft robe for me that I absolutely adore.

I just want to thank you for staying real and staying true to your faith. I’m so glad we’re sisters in him because we’re both Redeemed.

I’d love to see your favorite bloggers… who do you subscribe to? And Lysa, I NEED one of those Redeemed necklaces. Years ago I was in church and we were singing “There is a Fountain Filled with Blood.” When we got to the line that says “redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die,” I began to cry. I realized that redeeming love had not been my theme! If by theme, we mean what we talk about, think about, value the most…. it had not been my theme. But I vowed there and then that it would be. So you see, because God’s REDEEMING LOVE has been so precious to me, my theme(!), I simply must have the necklace to document it! Love you, girl, and praying fervently for that crazy ear-ringing to GO AWAY!

    Hi Lysa,
I have been following your ministry through Proverbs 31 daily devotions, I’ve purchased a couple of your books, and love your sense of humor. I have recently chose “I am redeemed” due to God’s mercy and grace in my life. I unfortunately am going through a divorce which I never expected nor would have ever considered. I got married before my 42nd birthday and thought I would be married “until death do us part”. My husband made other plans. Last year in July, he reconnected with his first love from high school on FB. I am completely devastated, heartbroken, and emotionally distraught. I pleaded and begged him to commit to our family, and I’ve sought counseling from my pastors and fellow shipped for support with women at church. Even after his infidelity I still thought we could save our marriage, he did not. I am trusting in Lord and seeking his guidance moment by moment. I pray continually for our 13 year old son that his heart will be guarded and the effects of all this doesn’t harm him emotionally. Pray for us in the Mighty and Powerful Name of Jesus.

I know I have a writer inside me and sometime the words will start pouring forth and I will need all the notebooks and pens I have bought.
Dream rooms, vacation spot, backyard, porch….something to think about, imagine.

You know what would be great? Friday Favorites that are all Christ centered activities to do with kids! I am always looking for fun ways to share about Jesus with my three year grandson. The ideas could be an experience to share or making an art type project. Thanks for all you do to encourage and teach women, Lysa!

We had a conversation today during a rare family lunch at the table. “What’s your favorite __________?” was the topic. My sweet 7 year-old asked, “What’s your favorite picture?” That led to a great conversation about memories.

So, Lysa, what’s your favorite picture?

How about giving a necklace for a soldier. Just saw my tooth surgeon today. She was stationed in Iraq for years. Lived in a tent with 40 women, no showers for 3 weeks at a time, no toilets, until someone made them one. A bucket and two wood planks to sit on. She performed surgeries on the Marines in the middle of Iraq with no air conditioning in the scorching heat. I would love to give my Doctor a necklace to thank her for her service to our country in worse than primitive conditions. She is one in a million!

    Lysa,
Sorry to post here b/c my question is off-topic for your Friday post (Although I LOVE it!) I couldn’t find where to message you regarding a Made to Crave question… Do you still struggle with food? Boundaries, thoughts of food, your spirituality when it comes to food, etc. Or through all of your writing, overall journey with this issue, do you feel you’ve overcome this? I’m asking b/c I’ve been struggling for a long time. My process of overcoming started at age 16 and while I’ve come a long way, I’m not fully 100% freed from this. I think I “get it”, what I still need to do, pray each day for the “want to”, boundaries to set, etc. but it has just been so long. I believe in God’s promises for me regarding this so I thought I’d ask you where you’re at now and if you struggle still. Thank you!!! –Nicole (Still very hopeful but feeling a wall at times between me and God. Always have and I KNOW the wall is this issue. 🙁 )

I wanted you to know that I just finished your book when women say yes to God. I choose to be a women who says yes to God and I told him I would go where he takes me. During that time I spoke at a small retreat and I told my pastor it was the desire to speak to women if that was God’s will. While at my study on your book I asked the ladies to pray that if God wanted me to speak he would open the door. I had said yes to God and was willing to go where ever it would be. I loved your book, love the message in it. I cried and allowed God to do a great work in me as I healed from a very violent act upon one of my children. Four days after praying with my bible study God open the door, no he kicked it off the hinges. It was just after the week that you talked about Ruth Graham and shared how you were part of her family. I though wow I would love to hear Ruth Graham or you speak someday. Because I was now a women who says yes to God I am now walking through the door that he kicked wide open and I will be seeing Ruth Graham speak in april because I was asked 4 days after to speak in a media seminar where she is speaking. Holy cow. I am out of my comfort zone and trusting God. I am now worried he may take my favorite bible or ask me to sell my house for something like that lol. I will be trusting in him as I do this. I have had confirmation to write my book and to get my blog going again. God is good and I am saying yes to him. One part of me wants to slap you for getting me into this (just joking) and the other side of me wants to hug you and tell you thank you. I will go with the second option. Thank you for writing your book. I have had it put on my heart to write a study for new believers and your study was behind that. Blessings to you!

I love the favorite kitchen things but if you don’t like to cook, it wouldn’t be very fun! Or how about favorite vacation places, themes, times.

Are you into painted furniture? Restoring and painting old furniture is such a thrill. It reminds me of the restoring of my soul upon occasion, when I have drifted away from my first love, and then the thrill of painting over the old, squashing it into nothingness like the forgiveness of God, wiping me clean, and starting with a beautiful new ME. I love painted furniture.

I would give it to my niece Savannah she is 15 going on 25 and she is in that faze of her live where she is searching for herself. I just hope that she find herself in God’s arms and not in the arms of something evil! I pray that every day.
