A Message From Hope And A Giveaway!

Hey everyone! Hope TerKeurst here – I’m taking over my mom’s Encouragement for Today devotion AND her blog for the day. So we’re gonna have a lot of fun together.

If there’s one thing I love to do, it’s spend quality time with others. Whether it’s with my friends, my family, or someone I just met, I love to take time to see what’s going on in their world. It’s fun and I find a lot of fulfillment in it. So when my mom and I had the opportunity to work on a book together, I was really excited to get started.

Now that What Happens When Young Women Say Yes to God has been released, I want to share a little excerpt from the book with you. Maybe it will help you to have an encouraging conversation with a young woman in your life about her relationship with God.

“What do you want to be when you grow up?”
Believe me, this is a question you’ll hear often as you make your way through high school. I have friends who let that question take over their thoughts, decisions, and worries, but I want to share with you a different way to look toward the future.
Try asking “Who do you want to be?”
That’s the question I focus on because it challenges me to find my identity and path in God and not through circumstances. Maybe another way to say that is: Whose do you want to be?
I want to be God’s daughter now and in the future.
At any given moment, if I’m striving to seek God’s will and trust His leading, I am doing the right thing. Someone recently asked me how I made the decision to do my first mission trip.
When I look at that time in my life, I clearly see God’s leading and intervention. The opportunity presented itself through a school requirement. I’m a planner, and I always think through my next steps, but in this case, I just went for it. I had no idea what I was heading into, but God gave me a great peace and the strength to say yes.
This ended up being a life-changing, faith-building, passion- forming event. I would’ve missed this vital part of my story if I had given over to fears sparked by the “what” questions. What will happen when I’m there? What will it be like to not have the comforts of home? What if I’m not good at this?
We can ask these questions until we make ourselves sick with worry, or we can embrace the yes life and the extraordinary story God is calling us to experience. As for me, I plan to keep asking who I want to be and whose I want to be. When I look beyond the world’s expectations and toward God’s best for me personally, the future is bright, exciting, purposeful, and incredibly inviting.
Will you join me in the yes adventure?
Let’s look forward together…fearless and faithful.

I know my mom usually does Friday Favorites, but this week, I’m doing a fun giveaway with all of my favorite things to enjoy the Spring weather!

Hope, I am sitting here thinking about my friend Amanda Reeb as I am reading your post and how she would be the one that I would give this gift pack to. You see I have known her since I was only 6 years old, her dad and my dad worked together, her brother and my brother were the same age and went to school together as did she and I. I have been through a lot of heartache and grief in my life and she has always been there for me and not condemed me or judge any of the not so wise choices that I made. When I was just 13 years old I lost my only brother in a car accident I thought that my life was over and there she was to help me try to make sense of it all. She stayed by my side through thick and then; and then just 4 1/2 years later my mother who just couldn’t take all of the depression and the demons that haunted her mind any longer committed suicide. Needless to saymy life began to spiral out of control Amanda was right there for me to hold my hand and tell me that everything was going to be okay and to let me vent to and cry on her shoulder anytime I needed. She may not know all of the ways she has touched my and still does to this day 16 years later, however I wiull forever be endebted to her kindness, gentleness, compassion, non-judgemental love that she has always shown me. That is why I would give this gift to her and no one else. Thank you Hope for taking the time out to read this little story of the most wonderful woman I have ever had the blessing and pleasure to call my friend.

I would give this to my friend Jordyn. She is an amazing teenager who is just about to graduate and head to Johnson Bible College. I love her amazing heart for God, from it flows peace, love, and leadership in ways most never achieve but for her it seems so effortless. She is also the oldest of 5 siblings and she sets a great example but also cares deeply which shows through her actions beginning in her own home. “Jo Jo” is one amazing young lady, excited to watch her continue to grow and be molded!!

I would give this package to my daughter, Courtney. She is so amazing & deserves a special package just for her. She may only be 16 but she already knows what she plans to do with her life. She is attending online High School as well as a East Valley Institute of Technology in Mesa, AZ for a Certificate in Culinary & Baking. She plans to be a Pastry Chef & eventually own her own Bakery. At the age of 16 she has already made several cakes for baby & bridal showers as well as cupcakes for weddings & birthdays. She has such a passion for Christ & lives by the Purity Oath she took several years ago. Courtney recently made a decision on her own to switch from one Wednesday night Youth Group to another because the first was not meeting regularly nor teaching lessons when they did meet, it has become more of a fun time for the most part. The new Youth Group she changed to she feels more comfortable in & loves the lessons & learning she is now a part of. Courtney is a very hard working & loving daughter & I admire her for her desire to learn more about God & not just to meet each week with friends. God is her #1.

One summer sanity saver tip I’m excited to utilize this year is . . . de-cluttering the entire house by giving away 1,000 items! Seriously. It’s now or never and once it’s done, our lives will be a bit more simple 🙂

  7. Tara Deese says

I would give these items to my mom. She is a breast cancer survivor and yet, does not know Jesus ad her personal savior. I believe this book may be able to open her eyes and close down some of the fears and doubts she has. Even if she doesn’t get the gift, I ask you all to continue to pray for her and pray she says Yes to God!!!

It is do encouraging to see a mother and daughter working together to touch lives! I would give this to my daughter Christine who works with a group of young ladies in our church. My daughter is a light on her secular campus as well. She tries to be Jesus hands and feet to others where ever god takes her and he is using her in a mighty way!!! Thanks for a much needed ministry!

I would give this to our youngest daughter, who is also the mother to our 10 year old granddaughter. Our granddaughter was saved at a young age, and has such a love for the Lord. I know it would be a well received gift.

I would like this for myself! Good morning, as a teacher I can think of several young ladies I would gift these items too but right now I am pulled to my sister. She is a single mom of three that has just started going back to church in the last month. She has a 13 year old daughter that needs to see her mom find confidence and her comfort and faith her savior. I gifted my sister your moms book and feel a follow up for her and her daughter is the next step.

Good afternoon, I love to read your mother’s blog. I have a 16 year old God who is following her heart. She has had her heart set on going to Africa for the past two years. She kept telling us that God was going to send her to Africa when it was time. Well God is sending her to Africa in 7 days. She will be gone for 10 days working and loving on the little African children. We could not be more proud of her and her love for God. With this gift pack I think it will just help her in her everyday life. Next year she will be a Senior in high school. It is so hard to live life for God with all the drama and bullying in the wall of your high school.

I would love to share this gift with 4 fantastic ladies I dearly love. My Mom, because she deserves a little something to brighten her life and add pep to her days. My Mother-in law because she has taught me strength and to never give up. My sister, who offers support even when she has to step out of her stoic ways to do so. My oldest daughter, who leaves for her first trip requiring a passport in 1 week. She is only 14 but continues to inspire and humble me on a daily basis. These women compliment my life and I want to have something to give them all. Sometimes I feel like I have nothing left to give and treating each of them to an item in your giveaway would bring me joy.

I just posted a comment and forget to include the scripture that has been on my heart to share. This verse helps me when things are not beautiful and good in the present.
    New International Version
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.
    Ecclesiastes 3:10-12

Our women’s’ Bible study recently finished your study, When Women Say Yes to God. When we decided on this study months before, God knew I was going to need this study to know he was calling me to a mission trip to Liberia with our church conference. When I was reading the book along with the study, I came to the part where you said you had adopted two boys from, where else, but Liberia. There were other confirmations as well. During the trip, we will be delivering birthing kits to the women there. I, like you, had an abortion before I was married. Very few people know about it because I cannot bring myself to say it out loud. I did tell my Bible study girl friends and they were so supportive. I feel delivering the birthing kits will help me to heal and come to peace with that decision I made so many years ago. Please pray for me next Sunday (11th) when I speak in church about how your study led to me to know that God was calling me to this trip. I am not sure I can bring myself to tell my church family what I did. I am so ashamed of this selfish act and have pushed it so deep in the depths of my soul that I am not sure I can do it. I thank God for your gift of this book and your study.

I would share this with our pastor’s wife, Michelle. She is in school completing her masters in marriage and family counseling. Her daughter is getting married this weekend. Her son graduated from high school in May and is headed off to college. Her youngest daughter begins 6th grade on August 8th. I think she could use an extra-special blessing!!

I would love to give this gift to a lovely young lady called Laura. Laura is about 13 years old and has recently started coming to our small church, kids club, youth club and Sunday school. My Pastor and I also see her on a Tuesday afternoon when we visit her school as an out reach team called “school angels”. Laura comes from Hungry and although she has only been in England for three years she has mastered the use of the English Language enough to interpret to her parents who she has now invited to come and join us at Church. She gets on very well with everyone at the club’s as well as the adults in Church, everyone likes he big personality and kind nature. I spent a lovely day with Laura quite recently and we talked all afternoon about her parents, England, Hungry her likes dis likes etc etc. Laura has a wonderful way of expressing herself , she has a relationship with her mother that i wish i had been able to have with my own mother. Her parents mean the world to her and she listens and obeys them. her mother has given Laura some strong values which she tries very hard to keep. Laura has a passion in her heart for Christ she is always asking her friends to come to Church on Sundays as she thoroughly enjoys the Sunday service and is often seen after the service singing the hymns with her friends. Her mother and Father are coming to church this week even though they do not speak English very well. Lura will interpret for them so they will not miss out on the message. We are all so looking forward to meeting them and Laura as a new family in our Church and I thought this would be a lovely gift to Laura for all her hard work, tenacity and dedication.

I realize after having a really bad day it was probably a direct result of the little time I spent in God’s Word and in quiet time Just for Him and listening to hear His voice. I was not tuned in but I know He was there waiting for me. That is what causes the bad day and then I end up taking it out on others who love me the most. Especially my spouse, Paul. He is so good to me, will do anything to help me when I am in physical or emotional pain. He is definitely a Man of God and I need to tell him how much he does bless me every day. I will do that today for sure. I know that is what I should do. God would want me to do this.

She is my go to in a world that is always throwing me curve balls!!! I love her with all of my heart!!! I would love to give this to my “daughter” Cheryl. This past summer, our church went on a mission trip to the Navajo nation in Arizona and on our Mission trip, I was one of the adult leaders for our group. We put on a Bible School during the day for the Navajo children and also led a sports camp for teens and crafts, and an adult ladies crafts group. It is something that we do every other year, and ongoing mission relationship with the Navajo Lutheran Mission in Rock Point, AZ- we all look forward to it. We are blessed so much by these wonderful people, and have enjoyed the initial group of children from years past growing up with us! One of these kids has been with us and has grown so much in her life and her walk with the Lord. She was abandoned by her Mother and never had a father, a family in her tribe took her in and is raising her. We grew so close, and she tells me that I am like the Mom she wanted. She is a wonderful girl, and she has grown so from the first time that I met her six years ago. Keeping her encouraged at age 15, and walking in His love is so important. I think that this would be something that she would hold as precious. On the reservation they have so little, that the smallest of things are treasured and held dear. Cheryl is a very precious child and she is a light to her people!

    Hi Hope:
I instantly thought of my mom when I saw your giveaway. I began teaching Lisa’s Made to Crave series a few weeks ago at church and invited my mom to join me. She has struggled with her weight for years. To my surprise, she said yes. And has embraced this new adventure. She was raised with a little knowledge of God, but has never truly experienced his awesomeness. I’m trying to instill as much of God into her life as possible in the time we have together. In January, she leaves for Arizona (from Minnesota) where she spends the winter. The beach bag and hat would be perfect for her time there. And she always loves a new nail polish color. But my biggest thought is the book. I think the Made to Crave series will be the catapult to launch her towards and amazing relationship with God. After I read What Happens Whe Women Say Yes to God, I know this book would have a profound impact on her and help her make her next step toward shining her beautiful light to the world. I am truly blessed to have an amazing mom and I want to give something extra special to her and this would be a perfect gift. By the way, her name is Ruth…

I thank you for your giveaway. I would give this to my granddaughter Makayla 13. she loves starbucks but whats most important is that she would start growing in the Lord Jesus Christ and loving Him as He created her to. It’s not much of a comment but huge to our Lord it would be one more that would glorify Him.
