One Word Prayers

Last week, I heard the most interesting concept about making one word resolutions for the new year.  As I let this idea bump around in my heart and brain, I decided I wanted to take this concept and come up with one word prayers for each of my children.  So during 2011, I will have one word chosen specifically for each of my kids as a focal point when I pray for them.

I haven’t come up with the “one word” for all 5 kids yet, but I know for sure what my oldest son’s word is for this year:  Revelation.  So, I wrote him a letter explaining why I chose this word and how I’ll be praying for him this year.

I’m praying that he have a strong REVELATION of three things during 2011:

1.  God’s vast love for him.

2.  God’s amazing plans for his life.

3.  His identity in Christ not his circumstances.

I am so excited to have this word to pray over him this year.

I’m also excited to choose a word for myself as well.  I’ve really pondered what my word for this year should be.  There are many that instantly popped into my brain.  But the one that seems to rise to the top is “Crave.”

And it’s not because my book is titled “Made to Crave.”

It’s because what the word means in a Biblical sense.

My friend Wendy Pope  sent me this amazing e-mail a couple of months ago explaining something I never knew about the word crave.  She is smart and loves to poke around the Greek and Hebrew origins for words in the Bible.  She found many references in the Bible encouraging God’s people to “seek” Him above all else.

When she studied the word ‘seek’, she found it came from the word, Zeteo… which means ‘to crave.’  Amazing.

So, this will be my year to seek…zeteo.. to crave God like never before.

What will your word be for this year?

Oh and one more thing that made me laugh and then shudder all at the same time.  I got an email from my publicist last night.  “CNN thinks your blog post is a home run and they’d like you to write more posts over the next year.”

Oh my.

Zeteo for sure.

So – it took me a couple of weeks but I’ve been praying and asking God what my “one word” is supposed to be. I was reading something just now and it hit me that this was my word – my one word prayer is LISTEN. I need to spend more time learning to LISTEN to Him and what He wants to say to me. I need to learn how to LISTEN to others better. He gave me two ears and one mouth for a reason – He wants me to LISTEN twice as much as I speak. I’ll let you know how it goes :)

    Still praying for J&J
