Here are some helpful points and verses from “Made to Crave” to consider in moments of temptation.

Healthy Eating Go-To Scripts

God has given me power over my food choices.  I’m supposed to consume food.  Food isn’t supposed to consume me.

2 Corinthians 12:9-11, “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness… For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

I was made for more than to be stuck in a vicious cycle of defeat.

Deuteronomy 2:3, “You have circled this mountain long enough.  Now turn north.”

When I am considering a compromise, I will think past this moment and ask myself, ‘How will I feel about this choice tomorrow morning’?

1 Corinthians 6: 19, “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?  You are not your own; you were bought with a price.  Therefore honor God with your body.”

When tempted, I either remove the temptation or remove myself from the situation.

1 Corinthians 10:12-14, “So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!  No temptation has seized you except what is common to man.  And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.  But when you are tempted, he will provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. Therefore, my dear friends, flee…”

When there’s a special event, I can find other ways to celebrate rather than blowing my healthy eating plan.

Revelation 3:8 “See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut.”

I have these boundaries in place not for restriction but rather to define the parameters of my freedom.

Romans 6:19-20, “I put this in human terms because you are weak in your natural selves. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness.”

My prayer partner and best friend, Pat is who I would give the 2nd copy to. Just today, before I read your blog about the new bible study to begin in Jan., we met for prayer, and the topic was exactly this! Needing to lose weight and get healthy to honor God, wanting to crave Him more than food, and just not knowing how to do it!!! I believe God led me to your blog (because I found it through taking many different rabbit trails!!) because Pat and I need this!! Thank you for being a vessel for God!!

I would give the second copy to my sister and invite her to do the webcast with me. I just gave birth to my third child and have gained weight through that, but before that and now I can relate to your post about craving food and not God and that I am using food to fill in for the emotional needs I have. My sister and I are both talking about this subject and how it makes us feel. This would be a perfect tool to use for both of us to put God as the priority and not other things. 🙂

I would give the second copy to my Mom who is a diabetic and has a ton of other health problems and I have also invited her to the webcast!!

I just pre-ordered your book. It really sounds like exactly what I need. I’ve been in this dessert for forty years wondering around. I pray your book will help me finally get right with God about food.
