One Less

Every now and then a simple photo captures the essence of life.  Not just a moment of life’s experience, but something so much more.  That’s what this photo is to me.  It was a highlight in my son’s life.  Therefore, it is one of my greatest moments as well.

It’s my son Mark and his life long friend, Nyan, singing on stage with Matthew West at a concert.  Matthew invited Mark and Nyan to sing backup for his new adoption song called, “One Less.”

When I tell you this is hands down my new favorite song, I kid you not.  Now, that is a bold statement for me.  All of my favorite songs are from the 80′s— the decade with the best music and don’t even try to argue that truth.

I mean seriously any decade that gave us U2, Duran Duran, Rick Springfield, and Amy Grant- rules in my book.  My little izod wearing, papagallo purse toting, jelly shoes dancing self was serious about her music.  So serious that I sort of got stuck in the 80′s with my musical bent.  Thank heavens my hair-do progressed past that decade- and all my sisters said Amen!

But this song may actually make me go get an ipod and progress into the year 2010.  And yes, you picked up on that little factoid about me correctly.  I might be the only human alive today that doesn’t own an ipod.

However, that might change since “One Less” is being released on i-tunes today!  You can get it by clicking here

Seriously, you will want to grab a tissue and download this song.  You will love it.  It will make you dance.  It will make you cry.  And it will make you want to help the helpless children in our world.  Any song that can do that is the absolute bombdiggity in my book.

And, guess what else?

I have 3 CD’s of Matthew’s soon to be released new album called “The Story of Your Life” to give away today!
All you have to do is leave a comment below and you’ll be entered.

Feel free to comment on whatever, but if you mention something from the 80′s you might be entered twice.  And if you weren’t around in the 80′s, let me pause a moment and weep for you.  And now I am so in the mood to wear a pair of jelly shoes again.  Like totally.

OMG–I can’t believe it is 2010–I graduated in 1980 (thought it would be that time period forever!!!). I loved everything about the time. Being a teenager, the music, friends, thinking we were invincible. Blessings to you and yours…

Matthew West is great and what a neat experience for your son and his friend. I remember all the great stuff of the 80′s and as a new Christian I was trying to switch over to Christian music and was introduced to Amy Grant, Kathy Troccoli and Michael W Smith.

Kind? True? Necessary? Yes ,it is! I just went to a conference and the message was on kindness. It is anazing what a kind word will do. I work in a cancer center and the patients need all encouragement they can get. We start our day with a devotion and prayer before we greet our patients. Is spending time with Jesus necessary, ABSOLUTLEY!!!! It has brought our team of nurses closer than everand they have the same goal, creating the best atmosphere with kindness and devotion to our patients.

    Lysa,

The 80′s were all about a passing time … I remember them well. I graduated from High School at the end of that now bygone era: 1989. I truly thank you for all of your posts, even if I don’t get to read them the same day. You have such a love for God and you are a blessing to those of us that are still “learning the ropes”. I have known God for a long time, but I still seek Him as a baby Christian. My short term memory doesn’t help in that aspect either! But, I love God and praise Him for the fact that He has walked with me through some rocky roads. The 80′s gave me some great memories! I learned all about Amy Grant and other artists through church youth group. But yes, I did listen to U2, Duran Duran and Rick Springfield too! All I have to say is — that was a long time ago but it’s great memories!

I was downright convicted by your Kind, Necessary, True devotional today. I immediately thought – YES this Word is for my kids, YES this Word is for the kids in our church school!! But then not too long after, Jesus YES this Word is for YOU! And once again Jesus lovingly showed me where I have not spoken words of kindness to people!!

Just think in the 80′s my two daughters were born; here stands a mom who thought she knew all the answers until two little lives were entrusted to my care and wished my mom could give me advice – she was in the beginning stages of alzheimers. BUT, I loved seeing my girls in matching dresses, buying jelly shoes in all kinds of colors to go with every outfit! I can’t wait to read your new book – really wanting a new Bible Study to begin for the Fall – I may need to run to the store soon to buy it, I don’t know if I can wait to see if I get chosen to win it! Have a great day!

I saw Matthew West at the last EWomen’s conference and absolutely loved it. I was totally bummed when I didn’t get to go to his recent “Story of Your Life” tour concert. It’s entirely cool that your son got to sing with Matthew West. What fun!!

I heard this song Wed, the same day I turned in my application to an adoption agency. I can’t wait for us to be the forever family of a little Honduran girl! And what a great song!
Btw – I was a little kid in the 80s, but my favorite part of that decade was Rainbow Brite!

within 30 secs of this song I had goose bumps -I love how Matthew sings songs that are so mind awakening. Sometimes we pass situations that we can make better but don’t take the time to help where help is needed. I myself need to do this more myself.

I lived the 80′s I turned 20 in 1980 so I got the pleasure of living every year and remembering them! The memory that stands out is my spriral perms.. OH my how we all had to have them! Having Cyndi Lauper w/her new fashion statement put the (back then we thought) coolest clothes out there. The more mismatched crazy layered look was en eye catcher. OH MY SHOULDER PADS!!! Even my cotten long sleeve turtle necks had shoulderpads. I always had one that seemed to have it’s own mind and not stay in place. But hey I was styling!!! LOL I could go on and on, but I have to say my fav was the early 70′s —-BELLBOTTOMS…they wider the better and if you had some emroider on that bottom or write cool stuff all over them or make them wider by splitting the outside seem and adding a cool wild piece of material -well let’s just say you were then begging your mom to do the same or beg her to let you use her prized sewing machine!!!

Thanks for sharing Matthews song and bringing me down memory lane!

    Sue

Hey Thanks for sharing Matthew West’s new song “One Less” it is an truly amazing song and it’s so awesome that your son and his friends got to perform this song on stage with him…. The 80′s were pretty great. I lived through the 80′s and without a doubt the music was amazing. However I wish we had some of the Christian artist and Christian radio stations that we have today back then. Well thanks again for sharing.. :)

Matthew West is truely a gifted song writer and artist. I heard his song “One less” on Klove. It it beautiful! I love, love, love christian music. It’s all I listen too. I believe that a song can minister to a heart as well as any words could.
As far as the 80s go, I was an 80′s girl too :) I loved the big hair, spiral perms and teased bangs. I tell my daughter all the time, I wish it would come back, lol. I never liked bell bottoms. I liked the pants with the tight ankles. I also remember when we used to fold our pants legs over and roll them up, and top that off with a pair of high tops Reboks. We thought we were so cool, lol. Oh and Rick Springfield, I still have a picture of him from a concert that we blew up to an 8X10. It’s in a photo album with all the other old pictures, haha. The 80”s, it was a great time to grow up in. We had good clothes, good music and things were much simpler then. I remember when we got our 1st microwave, satelite dish and VCR. Boy, who would have ever dreamed of flatscreen tvs, cellphones and dvd’s.
I also just wanted to say, I just finished reading Becoming More Than A Good Bible Study Girl. It was such a great book. I recommend it to everyone! Thank you for all you do. Have a blessed day!!!

Hmmm…the 80′s. I don’t really remember much…I was born in 82 so I was very young in the 80s. The only thing I really remember from the 80s are the retro wooden bald Fisher Price toys, Fraggle Rock and well, the Smurfs if you must know!

How neat that your son and his friend got to sing back up for Matthew West. I bet that is something they will always remember! He’s a great singer!

i posted the reason behind this song on our adoption blog, http://www.minus1project.blogspot.com–I really liked how it came to be. If it makes you feel better I do not own an ipod and all I remember about the 80′s was my mom wearing stirrup pants with big sweaters!!
