Like whatever— and WINNERS!

Okay, I totally thought my kids would think yesterday’s post was funny. So, I made them sit down at the kitchen table as I read it allowed.

They just sat their and stared at me.

Seriously, not even a snicker.

After a few seconds one of my girls quipped, “I don’t get why people think that’s funny.”

So you know what I did?!?

I ROLLED MY EYES and said, “WHATEVER!” And then I broke out into a hysteria of laughter. Oh yes I did. That’s how us mature mamas roll. If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em…. and then beat ‘em at their own game y’all.

I love when my bloggy sisters say, “Me too!” “Amen sister.” “Preach it girl.” “I’m printing this on off and putting it on my fridge.”

But I’m warning you- your kids won’t think I’m funny. Not at all. Not in the least. They will say, “That lady is not right.”

Then you will smile and ROLL YOUR EYES while saying, “Whatever!” It will feel so good.

Yesterday, after my little hysterical laughing fit, my kids acted like angels shining their halos the rest of the day. I think they are afraid they have finally driven me to the place where I am one fry short of a happy meal.

And maybe that’s where most of are living. That’s why we women need each other. It’s so comforting to share those crazy things we think about and have another person of the female variety “get us.”

So, if you like this kind of bonding, you’ll love the “A Woman Inspired Conference” coming up in just a couple of weeks!

I’ll be speaking on “What Happens When Women Say Yes to God,” and I’ll try to be a little more serious than I have been this week on the ol’ blog. But I’ll warn you, my craziness runs deep and is sure to sneak out some time during my seminar.

Many of you told me this week on my conference post that location and cost were big factors when determining whether or not you could attend a conference. Well, between now and April 1st, tickets to A Woman Inspired are only $12.95 !!! And the location couldn’t be more convenient— your computer!

That’s right. You can even wear your pj’s and have three day old hair if you’d like. Does it get any better than that?

Five of you have already won tickets… but guess what I’m giving 5 MORE TICKETS AWAY from today’s comments.

So, a total of ten of you are attending free. Last I checked, you can’t get a better deal than that!

Here are the five winners from earlier this week:

MP

Leebird

Kimberly

Grace and Peace

Refresh Mom

Congrats! Now, are you ready for your chance to win? Leave a comment OR ask a question about the conference in my comments below and you’ll be entered to win— FIVE MORE CHANCES!

I’ll announce the winners on Monday.

But, between now and then Amy and Amy will be hanging out around my blog today and through the weekend to answer any all questions you have about this live audio feed conference that will come straight to your computer.

I can’t wait to chat live with you soon!

A conference where I can have 3 day old hair??? That sounds just right for me and my pregnant self :) With a 2 year old and baby-on-the-way in tow – I don’t get to wash my hair as often as I would like. Is that gross?

What a cool conference! I can’t go to She Speaks because I’m due to have this baby right around that time – so an online conference sounds neat :)

    Enjoy your weekend,
    Kate :)

Thanks for all you do and I hope one day we will meet!

Megs – The beauty of this conference is that you have the option to listen to all of the sessions live or you can download them later to listen to when it is convenient for you. All of this is included in the price.

There is no need to sit in front of the computer as long as your speakers are up. You can just listen and do housework if you want to! But, if you do sit in front of the computer for some sessions then you will have the added advantage of a few visuals presented by the speakers and you can instant chat with other attendees through the software.

Thank you “Michelle from Canada” I needed to hear that verse today (Psalm 147:3

Enter me for the contest. Sounds like too much fun!

    Hi Lysa!

I don’t have any children yet. Will this conference be beneficial to me? If it is, I would love to win admission:)

    Amy Bayliss says:

Tracy – All materials are going to be downloaded. The talks will be downloaded in mp3. The digital scrap kits, blog templates, blog buttons, and some other forms of media (from the gift bag) will be downloaded via zip files. The documents such as: session outlines, bible studies, and household notebook forms will be downloaded in pdf form. All of it is accessible via online.

The speakers sessions will be done live but then made available for download later.

The difference between this conference and live conferences is that you won’t actually see the speaker but you will hear her and see whatever visuals (photos, powerpoint presentations, pdf) she makes available for you to see through the software. You will also miss hugging others too but keep in mind that the idea behind this conference is not to replace traditional conferences but to be “in addition to” them. This type of conference is also good for those who may not be able to attend traditional conferences for whatever reason: young children, pregnancy, budget, travel, or prior engagements. With this conference you attend at your convenience or live if you prefer. And the downloads are like getting the sessions on CD free!

    Amy Bayliss says:

Crystal – This conference is not a parenting conference so yes ma’am, it will greatly benefit you!

This conference is geared toward women in all seasons of life. Check out some of our sessions and see for yourself. Go to http://www.awomaninspiredconference.org and under “Schedule” in the navigation bar, click on each day and see what is in store for you!

This will be my First and I am looking forward to it but I am going to be dressed as I feel better looking good while taking in God’s word.
It’s a Spring Day here in Deale and I am sitting in my rocker in the mornings for devotionals…
It causes me to sit longer than planned but I take in his Word and his creation. Thanks so much.

    Maggie says:

My kids are still a little young, but I somehow related to your last posts and totally laughed outloud at both.

The conference sounds great and the only way I can swing it now is if I get to sit at my computer to attend so I think this is a great concept.

I am so thankful for the community of believers and women I am connecting to through the Internet.

    Thanks!

I often look forward to logging on for a little bit of what I like to call “girlie- type church. Thanks , and it did feel really good to roll the eyes and say “whatever’, just like the days of my youth.

I read yesterday’s post to my kids (ages 3 and 5. The treasures from the nostrils and the dinner comments were way too appropriate however, my 5yr old had just earlier made a comment about me not exercising and getting fat, so that one was aimed at her. They actually wanted me to read it again. Either they wanted to get all the rules straight or something in it sparked their imaginiations. Thanks for the laughs and the advice to my kids. Maybe they will listen to you.

An online conference sounds really great. That means Australia is not too far away for me to attend. I would love to win tickets because I haven’t found out if I can purchase from overseas. I know I went to the book shop to buy something and it wouldn’t post overseas as far as I could tell. Wouldn’t take an overseas address.

I’m new to reading blogs and have posted this one in my favorites folder. I am wondering if this “A Woman Inspired Conference” is only for married women. I am in my middle 20′s and am not married and from all that I have been reading it seems more for those who have a family. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks.

  32. 82

    Lysa,

God never fails to use you when I come in contact with you or your work. Two years ago, I heard you speak in Charlotte, NC and God is still reminding me of lessons I learned that weekend. Now I am using your book in a Bible study with other moms. We are all getting so much out of it.
I have a friend who always reads your blogs and emailed me to get on and read yours today. Glad I did. My husband, five year old and I all laughed through yesterdays entry. Thanks for being real. It reminds me that God made each of us just as we are, and He can use us as much as we let Him.
Please enter me in the contest for the conference. I would love to have the opportunity to download the session. I know God would use it in my life.
Thanks for doing what you do!

Yikes! Oh, I’ve been there myself. I’ve laughed at my children when they honestly don’t think it’s funny at all. In fact, they have actually been hurt knowing that I’m laughing. When, I finally realize my mistake, I try to explain it, and truthfully it really doesn’t get any better. Only, saying I’m sorry, please forgive me and praying to God to help me distinguish between the times I can laugh and cannot is what usually happens. Lord, help us to be the loving parents you desire us to be. I really think, these opportunites to humble ourselves before God are intentional and brings us ultimately closure to our Lord and Savior.

Alyssa ~ thank you for your question. If you click on the individual days under “schedule” on the menu bar, you will find the topic descriptions. Many of them are written for Christian women in general, single and married. Just a few examples: Amy Bayliss is speaking on Biblical friendships, Shelly Ballestero is speaking on beauty and balance, Darlene Schacht is speaking on healthy living, and many many more.

Congratulations to the winners of the “She Speaks Conference”!
Even though I personally wasn’t selected, I am excited for those ladies. An opportunity awaits them, a God given opportunity to develop those talents and gifts that God so graciously bestowed upon them.

As for this second opportunity to enter and win home seats to the “A Woman Inspired Conference”, I am all over it. I read “What Happens When Women Say Yes to God” when its title was “Radically Obedient, Radically Blessed” and it was one of the first books to change my spiritual walk with my Lord and Savior by ginormous proportions.

    Thank you for this chance!

    Michelle says:

    Lysa,

I hate to admit this but I did not know who you were until a few months ago. I have not been a great Christian in the past but felt something stir in my heart and my head that has been leading me down a different path, the right path. I am not going to say that God spoke to me because I am not sure at this point, but I do know there is a battle inside me sometimes. I heard about your seminar in Memphis from the radio and went with a friend. You were fantastic. I think the problem with conferences and seminars and sometimes church service itself is that there is rarely any humor. Being happy and laughing is what we need in the world we live in. We are forced to be serious about Finances, Health, War and our daily life. When we get a chance to enjoy ourselves, we want to revel in it and don’t want it to stop. That is how I felt at your conference. Was it serious at times?? Of course, Did I cry?? Of course, but you brought us back to the craziness of life and made us remember that God gave us humor. I am excited about the Women’s conference and if the other women are as inspirational as you, my journey down the right path is going to be hilarious.

Well, I read your post to my kids and they thought it was very funny. Hope that helps!

  45. 95

I’m late. I’m not even sure if the comments are still open, as it’s already 6:35 a.m. on Monday morning. However, I know with every fiber of my being that I’m supposed to be at this conference…a scholarship would certainly make it easier to attend. (But easier isn’t always better, is it? And easy almost never grows the Faith, so I’m leaving this in God’s hands.) :) Thank you for the chance!

    Lysa-
I checked out the schedule on Day 1 and was immediately hit with something I have been struggling with: getting past the superficial with girlfriends. We recently relocated to a different state, away from family and friends. I fee like every one of my conversations with people is superficial. I long for a good friend who I can share my life with. Whether I win a ticket or not to this conference, I plan on signing up… sounds like just what I what I need!

    Whitney says:

Lysa: My mom always does that to my brother and me. I love it! In fact, I think that’s the reason we’re as close as we are. She’s my best friend. She answers the phone saying, “What’s up, girlfriend?” I can only hope this for you too when your children are older. It’s the greatest comfort to know that your mom can relate to you… even in situations when you would never expect her to (as I’m sure you children didn’t at that moment). Keep blowing them away with seeming as though you’re one fry short. They’ll love it more every day and you’ll grow closer with them in the process.

I hear ya! When my nearly-eight-year-old daughter (April 27th–She about has the date marked in RED on the calendar), was merely a five-year-old elfin angel, I saw her struggling to walk in her shoes. Empathizing with her difficulty, I said, “What’s the matter sweetie? Are your shoes too tight?”

To this she answered, in her best Miley Cyrus sarcastic tone, “Ya think???!!!!”

This was accompanied by the “head thing,”–you know, that unnatural bob and weave thing kids do now with their heads, all the while keeping their necks perfectly still.

I shuddered involuntarily–I am soooo NOT READY for the tween years! (My pulse races at even the thought!)
