A little of this and a little of that

Happy Sunday Bloggy friends!

Here are some updates and tidbits from this week.

* Though skinny girl made Holly and I run in frozen elements this weekend, and I got a non-fat, no sugar latte at Starbucks, the number is still 149. Sigh. Yes, it will take time. Yes, I am committing this to the Lord. And Yes, I’m in it for health reasons and I shouldn’t focus so much on the numbers. But I’m having romantic notions of my husband picking me up and swinging me around while on his little business getting away- Like they do in the movies y’all. And, well, if he tried that right now, he’d wind up in the hospital in traction. So see, the numbers do matter a wee bit.

Oh and I must say I got completely tickled by your comments on my “weight” post. Especially my sweet friend who said I inspire her with my “obsience.” I’m thinking it was a typo and was maybe supposed to say “obedience.” But obsience was quite appropriate and made me laugh hard- out loud.

* Thank you so much for praying for Ashley’s gym meet. She was competing with a bum knee but was determined to give it her all. While I am thankful she stayed safe and that I didn’t have a heart attack, it was a rough meet. Keep praying for her and her team mates. They all head to Orlando next weekend to try again.

See evidence for said heart attack to the left. Yes ma’am that’s my baby.

* Though the big snow of 2008 turned out to be but a slight dusting- my kids were quite determined with their great snowman ambitions.

Have you ever seen a cuter snow man ever??? I think the electric blue hair adds a nice touch with the carrot stick nose don’t think? Not bad for two little southern snow bunnies hunh?

And last but certainly least, I have so enjoyed reading all of the entries for the publishing contest. I must give a quick shout out to Lisa B who painstakingly gathered all of the entries that were linked to blog posts and compiled them into this nice list. I can’t imagine how much time to took to do this. Thank you Lisa B so much for making it easier on all of us to see what posts were entered. If you are in the reading mood this weekend, post a comment about one or two that you read and like. How I’m ever going to narrow this down to just one is beyond me. There are many, many good entries.

Makes me wish I would have had a blog to post my article instead of an email address! :)

This may not be appropriate, but I feel like I have made many new friends over the past week via this blog. My best friend’s mother lost her battle to lung cancer this morning. On her 49th birthday, she got to see Jesus face to face. Please pray for the family, especially my friend, Michelle. Thank you.

    Prayers and Blessings!

    Lysa,
Praising God that your daughter did well and that you survived.

I’m amazed at the number of women that have written articles. As I have been reading some of the comments this week it was so exciting to see the message that God has spoken to each of us. We all have a kernel of seed planted in our heart and you are helping it to sprout. Thank you for your faithfulness.

God Bless my bloggy friend! :)

    Lysa …
Looking through the list of entries i noticed that mine was skipped! The name is “God’s Unexpected Plans”.

I found it on your original blog about half-way down in the list.

Ditto to tiggerdaisy about feeling like I’ve made new friends. In fact I’ve been wondering if there is any way that those of us going to She Speaks could get together at some point during the conference and meet each other in person?

Linda B did a great job and I can’t tell you how much easier this has been. Every time I click on to someones comment I lose the place where I left off. Thank you thank you.

Loved the pictures. What a great action shot you got of Ashley. And I was wondering just what are those snowman’s eyes made out of?

If what I sent for the contest was not on this list, I assume it is not in the running?
Yur daughter looked beautiful. My girls do gymnastics but we do not compete.
    God bless.

Oh thanks so much for listing them this way! I am hoping to get some good reading time in tonight after church and I will be back to leave input! That is if God allows me the time for it. I am praying for all having to make the decision. It looks like there are many! What an encouragement to see so many women with God-focus!
    Much love,
    Angela

Wow! What a list! [Although it's hard to turn off these editor eyes -- it seems some of the list got pasted twice; it repeats itself! LOL :-) ]

Glad you’re daughter–and you!–survived the gymnastics meet! I think I would have been watching my girl through my fingers!

Hang in there with the diet and exercise. I found a site that tells you all about your personality according to how you order your latte & posted it on my blog! So scientific, right?! Fun for a laugh!

Have a great day! You are an encouragement to so many of us,

    Linda

  9. 9

Wow…while I haven’t read them all, I’ve read enough to know there’s some wonderfully written, thought-provoking, encouraging entries! How cool to see so many women using their words and blogs to bring glory and honor to Jesus…

    Oh yeah, LOVE the snowman!

    Lysa,

You and your pals at Proverbs31 are amazingly giving to be doing this for all your stranger-friends out here! Thank you.

Maybe you are aware but I thought you might want to know that your list looks like it has been copied and pasted 2 or 3 times. I saw my entry two times I think. FYI.

I have two posts to be considered:
“There is No Greater Thrill” and “Trust and Obey”. Please don’t miss me! ;)
Thanks again for doing this for us!

    Hi everyone!

I’m the one who put this list together and sent it to Lysa. I’m cleaning it up some and I hope to make it even easier to keep your place (maybe by numbering them).

MrsJoeB: I think your blog was one I could not get to Friday night (there were a couple like that). I have since found your blog and added the “Burnt Dinner Rolls” post to the list. I could not however, find the “Jesus Wept” and “Nutrients for the Body and Soul” articles you mentioned in the other set of comments. Can you post in the comments to this post — direct links to those 2?

Amy: When I checked your blog Friday night, I think I didn’t see anything that looked like it was to be submitted. I have added both the articles you mentioned and given direct links.

Please, anyone else who didn’t see your article on this list, please let us know! I put this together late Friday night, and I may have missed you or not been able to directly identify which post you’d like to submit.

Lysa: I think you may want to extend that deadline :) You’ve got way too much to read by Monday!!

  14. 14

    Lysa,
Don’t feel too bad about still being at 149. I spent all day yesterday in my pj’s drinking Dr.Pepper and eating junk!!! I probably gained 2-3 pounds!! UGGHHH! Well, It WAS a snow day, ya know. And, what else could one possibly do? I guess I should have went out and made a snowman like you and your kids did!! I just watched my kids play; sent my hubby out into the cold with them so I could stay inside with my Dr. Pepper. I’m trying to be good today, though.
Congrats to Ashley for her good athletics event! Can’t wait until tomorrow!!
    Blessings,
    Starr

    Hi Sweet Friends~

As you can see above, sweet Lisa B. is helping fix the list. I so appreciate her help! Lists are not my cup of tea~ but reading all of your amazing articles is! So, me and my team are having a blast. Picking just one will be so hard. I think this has been such a fun thing that we’ll definately do it again.

We are still planning on posting the winner tomorrow. And making the other big announcement! Smiles!

  16. 16

Oh and the snow man’s eyes are made of yellow Star Burst Candies.

We were out of spare coal pieces laying around~ smiles!

  17. 17

    I forgot —

Carlyn: I couldn’t get to your blog Friday, but now I can :) So I added your post to the new list!

  18. 18

THANK you for this list! I’ve bookmarked it and will spend the next few weeks reading (and probably linking to) these posts with my morning coffee.

  19. 19

I love the blue hair – I’ve never seen a snowman quite like that. Maybe I’ll post ours tomorrow (we made it a month ago – it’s -30 here today). Praying for Tiggerdaisy’s friend. I love this little community too! What a great group of women sold out for Jesus!

Whew! Two days of reading and a heart so full it is spilling out of my eyes! Lysa, I do not envy the job of picking just one, that’s like reaching your hand into a bag of potato chips and just eating one! Thank you for sponsoring this wonderful opportunity, I have found some wonderful new places to be refreshed in the Lord. And…I love you little blue haried snow person, too cute!

    Blessings,
    Miss Sandy

The list is great! Thanks Lisa B!

I’ve loved reading and have tried to comment on them as I’ve read. There are just so many! But it is great to read how God is working.

Thanks to those of you who have left sweet comments on my site. The are very encouraging.

Good luck deciding. You know, you can always use some of them over a period of several issues . . . just a thought.

Happy Sunday. I look forward to Monday. (I hardly ever get to say that!)

  22. 22

I love that Lisa B pitched in and helped out. She normally is fixing my blog when I break it, but I’ve been pretty good here of late… i’m sure she’s been bored!

there are so many awesome entries on here! I’m thrilled to be among them!

  23. 23

Maybe you should consider more than one winner but instead having a monthly “blog article” in the magazine?!?!?
Amazing how much of a response you have received! Thank you for all this fun! Two of my listings “Nutrients for the Body and Soul” and Jesus Wept” are lengthy and on a floppy. I will need to convert this (which I cannot do with my laptop). I will send these later to your group for review outside of this contest. This weekend was just too full!

Tiggerdaisy, I am praying for the family of your friend’s mother. Let them know.

Okay, so technically it is Monday — at least out east where you are. I was hoping all the answers would come at midnight! Oh well.

  27. 27

I’ve barely scratched the surface with all of the posts, but from what I’ve seen, there is quite the task ahead of you! So many beautiful faith-filled women sharing stories of God moving, the Spirit speaking and real encounters with Jesus inspire and encourage me.

Thank you for offering a place to gather these stories all together.

    God Bless,
    Jane

  28. 28

    Lysa,
You are a brave, brave woman to endure you’re daughter flipping through the air like that. My poor children have a complete wimp mom who holds them back from way too much. This is also why God has given me ONE boy and five girls – I couldn’t handle more than one child on the football field.

Lysa, the picture of Ashley was amazing, it took my breath away! You probably don’t remember me, but I was Ashley’s assistant teacher at Weddinton Christian Preschool when she was in the two day twos program with Ms. Alice as the lead teacher.(I was Ms. April) I can’t believe how much she’s grown, I also subbed some for the three year old class and I remember Hope as well. I guess they will forever be 2 and 3 in my mind, they were both sweet girls and I do have some fond memories of them both. I am a mom now of four and haven’t worked at Weddington since my oldest child arrived 8 and a half years ago. I love reading your blogs and getting the P31 devotionals daily. Thank you for being a Godly role model! Sincerely, April
